Bangchak Clarifies DSI Case: Merely Form Filing Errors, Not Oil Hoarding

Bangchak's CEO says the DSI case against oil refineries involves only minor form-filing errors, not intentional oil hoarding, and would result in administrative fines rather than criminal charges.

3h ago Khaosod

On May 19, Chaiyawat Kovavissarach, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited, addressed reports that the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) is pursuing action against a group of oil refineries, saying the matter contains no serious issues or major scandal as portrayed in the news. He characterized it as merely a discrepancy in how data was entered on reporting forms. According to Chaiyawat, multiple agencies examined a group of traders and found that some had filled out their reporting forms incompletely or with information that deviated from actual facts. Under regulations, such reporting errors would only result in administrative fines through legal procedures. "There's nothing more to it than that, but reports have come out claiming there's oil hoarding or serious wrongdoing," Chaiyawat said. "Even the Department of Energy Business itself previously stated that it had never before required reports with this level of detail, which makes it easy for clerical errors to occur." Meanwhile, Sarawut Gaewtatip, Director-General of the Department of Energy Business under the Ministry of Energy, said that regarding next steps, they must wait for the DSI investigation to be completed first.

Young Teacher Gets a Shock as Large Python Crashes into Home, Requires Skilled Rescuers—But It's Not as Easy as Expected with Bites, Tail Whips, and Terrifying Hisses

A nearly 2-meter python that crashed into a teacher's home in Lopburi Province on May 19 proved difficult to capture, biting and tail-whipping rescuers during a chaotic 10-minute extraction before being safely released into nature.

3h ago Khaosod

A large python unexpectedly ran into a teacher's home. Neighbors attempted to drive it out without success, forcing them to call professional rescue workers. However, the rescue proved challenging as the python bit, whipped its tail, and hissed menacingly, causing panic among onlookers.

On May 19, 2025, the Sawaang Ariyotharma Foundation rescue unit from Ban Mi in Lopburi received a call for help regarding a large python that had entered a home in Moo 8, Hin Pak Subdistrict, Ban Mi District, Lopburi Province. They mobilized with equipment to investigate.

Upon arrival, rescuers found the python, nearly 2 meters long, hidden on the ground floor of the home, continuously hissing loudly. Using a rope noose to restrain it, they found the python resisted capture and fled around the house. The rescuers managed to grab its tail and drag it out while villagers shouted for them to hurry and secure its head. The enraged python bit at the rescuers and whipped its tail violently, forcing them to dodge and jump out of the way in chaos.

After approximately 10 minutes, they successfully controlled and secured the python before transferring it to a vehicle for release back into nature, accompanied by villagers' applause and expressions of gratitude for the rescuers' bravery. The rescuers then warned residents that while pythons can be chased away, people should never attempt to capture them directly, as pythons are easily startled and may cause injury through tail strikes or bites as a defense mechanism. Large pythons are particularly dangerous due to the force of their tail strikes and the bacteria present in their teeth.

Kru Sanguan, the homeowner, explained that the python suddenly ran into his home while he was sitting outside. He and his neighbors attempted to drive it out, but after a long and exhausting effort without success, and fearing the large serpent's threatening hisses, he decided to call for professional help. "I've never seen a python enter my home before, and this one was enormous," Kru Sanguan said. "An elderly neighbor told me that if a python enters your home, it brings good fortune and prosperity, and you must not harm it. I'm thinking there might be some truth to that, so maybe I'll try my luck with the house number lottery—perhaps the python will bring me good fortune."

Thailand's Cassava Flour Successfully Penetrates German Market; Major Global Companies Interested in Joint Venture Expansion

Thai cassava flour has gained strong interest from major European companies after a trade delegation's visit to Germany, with leading packaging and chemical manufacturers requesting product samples and exploring joint ventures. The success

3h ago Khaosod

Arada Fuengtong, Director-General of the Department of Foreign Trade (DFT) under the Commerce Ministry, has revealed that she assigned Nophadol Kanthamas, Deputy Director-General of the DFT, to lead a delegation of government representatives, cassava flour experts, leading Thai cassava flour industry entrepreneurs, and media to expand export markets for Thai cassava flour in Germany between May 10-13, 2025. This initiative aims to open new market opportunities in line with the policy of Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Supachai Suthammapun.

The mission achieved outstanding success. The delegation participated in Interpack 2026, Europe's largest packaging industry exhibition and technology showcase, and engaged in discussions with the VDMA Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Association, Germany's most influential association of food processing and packaging machinery manufacturers.

The team also met with leading European packaging manufacturers such as PaperFoams B.V. from the Netherlands and Lecta from Spain. These companies expressed strong interest in developing cassava flour-based materials and requested product samples for testing as raw materials before proceeding with bulk purchases.

Furthermore, the delegation met with major German chemical companies interested in cassava flour's potential as a key raw material for producing environmentally-friendly chemicals. The Thai cassava flour industry has demonstrated its capacity to efficiently meet these demands while aligning with European environmental standards. Both private sectors will continue discussing joint product development plans.

The delegation also met with executives from the Port of Duisburg, the world's largest inland port, which is connected to major European ports via the Rhine River and serves as a main terminal for the China-Europe Railway Express under the Belt and Road Initiative. Transporting Thai cassava flour through this port presents an important alternative that will efficiently distribute Thai cassava flour to manufacturing sectors across the European region in the future.

The market expansion mission for Thai cassava flour in Germany achieved remarkable success, particularly in promoting cassava flour's strengths as a versatile raw material for various industries including paper, packaging, and chemicals. Given the distinctive properties and potential of Thailand's cassava flour industry, multiple European companies have expressed interest in developing cassava flour products in collaboration with Thai private enterprises, spanning packaging, packaging coatings, and environmentally-friendly chemical production.

Given cassava flour's commitment to international quality standards that align with EU policy, the department is confident that this market expansion initiative will represent a crucial opportunity to strengthen the capabilities of entrepreneurs in both countries while enhancing supply chain resilience and sustainable growth. This will ultimately benefit Thai cassava farmers by securing long-term stable export markets.

Arada stated that amid current geopolitical crises affecting global supply chains, promoting Thai cassava flour in Germany not only showcases high-quality agricultural raw materials but also strengthens international trade relationships.

Referee Vorinthorn Banned for 6 Weeks Over Sukhouthai-Muang Thong Match Error; VAR Official Also Penalized

Referee Vorinthorn Satsthi has been banned for six weeks after failing to penalize a dangerous high kick in Sukhouthai's 3-0 victory over Muang Thong on May 10, a match that determined both teams' league fates. The VAR official was also sus

3h ago Khaosod

Thai football referee Vorinthorn Satsthi has been suspended for six weeks after making critical errors in the final match of the 2568-69 season, where Sukhouthai FC defeated Muang Thong United 3-0 on May 10 at Thalueang Stadium. Sukhouthai escaped relegation while Muang Thong dropped to Thai League 2.

The disciplinary committee, chaired by Watcharin Phanurat, identified two key incidents. In the 34th minute, Sukhouthai player Sirodej Chattong was in an offside position during a free kick into Muang Thong's penalty area. Although Chattong made contact with an opposing player, the referee did not call offside. The committee determined this decision was correct because Chattong's movement did not materially affect the play.

However, in a subsequent play moments later, Chattong raised his foot high while Kim Dong Soo of Muang Thong was attempting to head the ball clear. The referee did not call a foul, allowing play to continue and resulting in a goal for Sukhouthai. The committee found this was a dangerous play that should have been penalized.

Penalties imposed: Referee Vorinthorn Satsthi was suspended for six weeks for failing to call the dangerous high kick. VAR official Sivakorn Phuudom was suspended for two weeks for not properly reviewing the incident and advising the referee to reassess the high kick challenge.

3h ago Khaosod

Muang Thai Life Insurance is aggressively expanding into the health insurance and wealth planning market with its new concept 'Choose Well for You,' introducing the new 'D Health Lite' product—a comprehensive health insurance plan designed to fit individual budgets. The product targets freelancers, working professionals, and modern families while attracting affluent customers to purchase insurance domestically.

Sarana Lumsam, Chief Executive Officer of Muang Thai Life Insurance Company Limited (MTL), revealed that the company is continuously developing health products and services under the 'Choose Well for You' concept to address customers seeking personalized coverage amid changing global conditions and rising medical costs.

The newly launched 'D Health Lite' is a flexible health insurance plan that allows customers to select coverage and premiums suited to their budgets. It provides comprehensive coverage for common illnesses, serious diseases, and accidents with benefit limits of 1 million or 5 million baht per hospitalization.

Key features include acceptance from 30 days to 90 years old with coverage extending to age 99, and offering multiple options such as first-baht coverage, deductible plans, and copayment options to help customers manage premiums according to their payment capacity.

Customers can also utilize benefits through the 'MTL Smile Hospital Network,' covering 165 partner hospitals nationwide, receiving special privileges including up to 20% increase in medical expense limits, additional hospital and physician days, copayment discounts, and faster pre-surgery cost estimates.

'This product is designed to serve diverse customer groups—freelancers without employee benefits, children and families, office employees seeking additional coverage, and those living in other provinces wanting easier access to private hospitals,' Sarana said.

Simultaneously, Muang Thai Life Insurance launched wealth planning and legacy transfer products including 'Muang Thai Premier Legacy 99/1,' available from age 30 days to 80 years with premium payments for just 5 years, and 'Muang Thai Legacy Wealth 99/5,' available from age 30 days to 75 years, featuring fixed policy surrender value and short-term premium payment to support long-term wealth management and asset transfer needs.

Sarana noted that Thailand is entering an aging society, increasing demand for health insurance and long-term life insurance. He emphasized that Thai insurance products are competitive internationally in terms of coverage, flexibility, and regulatory standards.

'We want Thais to have confidence in domestic products because equivalent foreign insurance typically requires 10 million US dollars, while Thai products start around 10 million baht, offering easier access, reduced currency exchange risk, and local tax benefits. Today's Thai life insurance addresses health needs, financial planning, and wealth transfer to loved ones,' he concluded.

3h ago Khaosod

On May 19, 2025, Deputy Commander Maj. Gen. Pongsiam Meekhanathong of the Tourist Police revealed details following a joint meeting with embassy and consulate representatives and foreign volunteer networks in Pattaya, Chon Buri Province. The Tourist Police Command has launched proactive measures to protect tourists and foster cooperation between government agencies and international networks to prevent and suppress crimes damaging Thailand's tourism reputation.

Representatives from multiple countries participated, including Finland, South Korea, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, India, Mongolia, and the Russian Federation, along with foreign volunteer networks from over 20 countries in the Pattaya area.

Maj. Gen.
