Jackson smiles as Buriram United claim opening leg advantage in AFC Club Championship pursuit

Buriram United secured a 1-0 away victory over Selangor FC in the opening leg of the AFC Club Championship final, giving head coach Mark Jackson's side the advantage before the decisive second leg at home on May 27.

1d ago Khaosod

Mark Jackson, head coach of Buriram United, praised his team's performance after securing a 1-0 away victory over Malaysia's Selangor FC in the opening leg of the AFC Club Championship SHOPEE CUP 2025/26 final. The team holds the advantage before returning to Chang Arena on May 27 for the decisive second leg.

Jackson expressed satisfaction with the away result, acknowledging the difficulty of facing a quality opponent. "I'm very pleased with how the team performed, especially in the second half. Everyone fought hard, never gave up, and gave their all," Jackson stated. "I'm proud of how they closed out the game today, but I reminded them we still have another match to play that requires even greater commitment and preparation."

The coach emphasized his approach remains unchanged, with all players dedicating themselves to the club. He noted the team faces a demanding schedule, including a 120-minute match against Johor Darul Ta'zim and the Thai FA Cup semi-final on Sunday. Despite signs of fatigue in the second half, Jackson praised his players' character and unity, particularly their defensive resilience under pressure.

Jackson expressed confidence that a week's recovery before the second leg would prove beneficial, a luxury the team hasn't enjoyed recently. "The second leg will be different. Getting a good away result gives us added confidence heading into our home match," he said. "I have confidence in this squad and our ability to win matches."

The return of midfielder Guilherme Bissoli was welcomed by Jackson as a significant boost to the team. He also praised attacker Supphannuth Muenmatee as a dangerous player who made a difference today, though showing some fatigue late in the match. Jackson stressed the importance of monitoring injuries while noting that the players who came on as replacements performed well.

The second leg of the final will be played at Chang Arena on May 27 at 19:00.

Senate Sports Subcommittee Sets Out Qualifications for New Sports Authority Director—Must Be Free from Political Interference

Thailand's Senate sports panel seeks a new Sports Authority director free from political interference by September 2026, citing critical organizational problems including budget delays, short-term focus, and leadership instability harming a

1d ago Khaosod

Chaithat Pharasunthorn, a senator and chair of the Senate sports subcommittee, presided over a meeting to assess progress on selecting a new Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) director. The meeting included presentations from SAT executives including Deputy Director Meechai Inwoods, Director of Elite Sports Development Yutthaya Chinhit, Human Resources Director Darin Vikrantonon, and Finance Director Prawit Metta.

Phatasunthorn stated that a recruitment committee nomination is currently under review by the SAT board. Although the process has been delayed by approximately two months due to political circumstances, the subcommittee hopes to complete the selection by September 2569 (2026). If the appointment cannot be finalized by October 1, 2569, an interim director will be appointed to ensure continuity.

Jamlang Anantsuk, vice chair of the Senate sports subcommittee, described the current SAT as an organization in critical condition requiring major surgical intervention. He emphasized that the recruitment committee must establish clear qualifications and include experts from various fields. The new director must excel in sports management.

Anantsuk used a medical metaphor to describe SAT's problems: "The first symptom is arterial blockage," referring to complicated budget disbursement conditions that prevent funding from reaching athletes and staff directly, causing sports associations and athletes to advance their own funds or face budget overages lasting years. This weakens the athlete base.

Other issues include myopia in focus—emphasizing short-term events over long-term athlete development, youth programs, referee and coach training standardization, and new talent recruitment systems. This has caused Thailand to lose a generation in several sports.

Another critical problem is compromised immunity from political interference and power struggles affecting sports management decisions. Leadership changes bring policy shifts unrelated to competence or merit, disrupting long-term development as new administrators implement different strategies.

The subcommittee recommended establishing rigorous, transparent, and internationally-aligned candidate qualifications to reduce political interference, while emphasizing that organizational leaders need vision, strong management and budgeting capabilities alongside sports expertise.

Buriram United secured a 1-0 away victory in the AFC Club Championship final's opening leg against Srilangar FC, with coach Mark Jackson praising his team's defensive discipline and fighting spirit despite fixture fatigue.

1d ago Khaosod

Buriram United claimed a crucial 1-0 away win against Srilangar FC in the opening leg of the SHOPEE CUP 2025/26 AFC Club Championship final. Head coach Mark Jackson expressed satisfaction with the victory, stating that he was pleased with how his team fought without yielding and closed out the match professionally, despite acknowledging there is still another match ahead that requires even greater preparation and commitment.

Jackson emphasized that his tactical approach remains straightforward, with all players giving their utmost for the club. He noted the team's demanding fixture schedule, including a 120-minute encounter with Johor Darul Takzim followed by an FA Cup semi-final on Sunday. While the squad showed signs of fatigue in the second half due to travel, Jackson praised the outstanding character and unity displayed by his players in defensive situations when facing opposition pressure.

Regarding the second leg, Jackson indicated that having a week for physical recovery is beneficial, as it will allow the team to restore their bodies and minds while maintaining the confidence gained from the away victory. He expressed confidence in the squad's ability to win every match, though acknowledging the difficulty of achieving this in a final tournament format. Jackson also welcomed the return of Guilherme Bissoli to the squad and commended Suphanat Mueantat's impactful performance in the match, noting he made a difference despite showing some fatigue toward the end.

A Kanchanaburi restaurant owner is pursuing justice after a police officer sexually assaulted his 20-year-old server on May 19, with the officer refusing to apologize or attempt reconciliation despite the complaint filed with police.

1d ago Khaosod

A well-known pork hotpot restaurant owner in Lat Yai Subdistrict, Muang District, Kanchanaburi is seeking justice for his 20-year-old server who was sexually assaulted by a police officer (Ror Damnern) through unwanted touching. The incident occurred on the evening of May 19, 2025. Following the assault, the owner brought the victim to file a complaint at Lat Yai Police Station as evidence.

On May 21, 2025, restaurant owner Phanupong Taetvong and the victim, referred to as "Bee," met with investigators at Lat Yai Police Station to provide additional testimony. A deputy traffic superintendent from Muang Kanchanaburi Police Station—who is the superior of the accused officer—also attended, but the accused officer did not appear.

Phanupong stated that the officer who committed the assault did not show up to meet with the victim as he had expected. Only the deputy superintendent attended, and there was no attempt at reconciliation whatsoever, leaving him and the victim deeply disappointed.

Since the incident, the accused officer has never contacted the restaurant or the victim to apologize, demonstrating no remorse. Police Bust Chinese Spa Offering Illegal Sexual Services, Arrest 8 Staff Members

Police raided a spa in Rayong province on May 21 and arrested eight foreign staff members operating an illegal prostitution ring disguised as a massage business, with rooms modified for sexual services.

1d ago Khaosod

On May 21, 2025, Lieutenant Colonel Thongpreud Sirisukha, commander of Highway Police Division 3, ordered officers led by Colonel Suriya Puang Sambat and other senior police to conduct a raid on a health spa in Mab Yang Phro subdistrict, Pluak Daeng district, Rayong province, following complaints that the establishment was secretly engaged in prostitution while publicly advertising massage services.

Investigators found that staff members were offering special "body-to-body" massage services and explicitly proposing sexual intercourse with clients for 4,500 baht per 50-minute session. Two Vietnamese women were discovered preparing to engage in sex work. A search of the two-unit commercial building revealed that the second and third floors had been modified into over 10 service rooms equipped with beds and supplies, along with condoms and lubricant.

Eight suspects of Chinese, Myanmar, and Vietnamese nationality were arrested on charges of human trafficking, illegal immigration, and foreign worker violations. All female workers were screened under Thailand's National Referral Mechanism (NRM) for human trafficking victims, though none were found to be victims of trafficking.

Charges were filed under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act B.E. 2539, the Immigration Act B.E. 2522, and regulations governing foreign worker management.
