Police raided an illegal gambling operation at a Bangkok shrimp pond on May 22, arresting 16 people including operators, gamblers, and undocumented migrant workers who bet on whether caught shrimp would weigh an even or odd amount.
On May 22, 2569, police led by Pol. Col. Worawit Yanjinda, commander of the Tourist Police Division, coordinated a raid on a shrimp fishing pond in Bangkok's Ladprao district following intelligence reports. Officers arrested 16 people involved in an illegal gambling operation where patrons bet on whether the weight of caught shrimp would be even or odd, seizing digital scales, betting slips, cash totaling 5,183 baht, and an illegal claw machine.
The investigation began on May 21 when undercover officers confirmed the operation was running illegal gambling activities. At approximately 7:10 p.m. on May 22, police moved in and arrested three operators responsible for weighing shrimp, recording bets, and managing cash, along with six active gamblers caught in the act. Officers also discovered eight foreign laborers, nationals of Laos and Myanmar, working illegally without proper documentation.
The three operators face charges of operating an illegal even-odd gambling operation without authorization. The six gamblers were charged with participating in illegal gambling, while the eight foreign workers face immigration violations. Authorities are expanding the investigation to include the establishment's owner.
