Buddhist Amulet World – Medals of Luang Pho Chat and Phra Thep Rattana Moli

Rare Buddhist amulets and medals from revered Thai abbots span over a century, with notable pieces including a 1918 brass funeral memorial from Wat Tham Nimit and sacred pendants created for temple restoration funding across Ubon Ratchathan

13h ago Khaosod

Spiritual teacher Luang Pho Cha Suphattho from Wat Nong Pa Phong in Ubon Ratchathani emphasizes the importance of mental cultivation through meditation practice. The article documents several rare and historically significant Buddhist medals, including a first-edition medal of Luang Pho Thiang Pandito, the second abbot of Wat Tham Nimit in Samut Songkhram, cast in 1918 in brass as a funeral memorial. The medal features an oval shape with a connecting loop, depicting a seated monk figure on a pedestal with Thai numerals beneath and commemorative inscriptions around its edge. Another notable piece is a sacred amulet created by Luang Pu Ti Yanasophano, former abbot of Wat Luang Rajawas in Uthai Thani, in 1995—a small pendant statue of Buddha in meditation pose mounted on a lotus flower, of which 1,000 were produced to raise funds for temple restoration. The article also covers a Buddha image medal created in 2000 when the respected abbot was 88 years old, produced in 188 silver and 3,000 copper versions, featuring Khmer script and Buddhist incantations. Finally, it documents the Phra Thep Rattana Moli medal from 1970, an aluminum triangular amulet with a loop, commemorating the 72nd birthday of Phra Thep Rattana Moli, the esteemed former abbot of Wat Phra That Phon Wora Mahavihara in Nakhon Phanom, a highly collectible sacred object.

Sacred Items News – Medal of Progress Commemorate Somdet Phra Buddhakosajarn (Charoen)

Somdet Phra Buddhakosajarn (Charoen), a highly respected Buddhist scholar born in 1872, became abbot of Wat Thepsirin in Bangkok in 1898 and rose to prominence in the Dhammayut sect through decades of scriptural study and ecclesiastical lea

13h ago Khaosod

Somdet Phra Buddhakosajarn (Charoen Yanawaro), former abbot of Wat Thepsirin in Bangkok and a venerable teacher of great significance to Thai Buddhism. Originally named Charoen Sukbut, he was born on Tuesday, July 9, 1872, in Talat Klang subdistrict, Bang Plasoi district, Chon Buri province, to parents Tongsuek and Ya-ang Sukbut. At age 12, he underwent the ordination ceremony at his grandmother's garden pavilion in Na Klua subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri, with Phra Chalothop Kunmuni serving as his preceptor. He continued his studies at Wat Khao Bang Sai until age 14, when he entered scriptural studies under Phra Kru Vinaidhon at Wat Rajabophit. At age 20, he returned to Wat Khao Bang Sai for full ordination, also under Phra Chalothop Kunmuni, and received the religious name Yanawaro. He then traveled to Bangkok and resided at Wat Kanmatuyaram to facilitate his continued education. He subsequently studied in the lineage of Somdet Phra Shasanasophan and was stationed as a teacher at Wat Phichaiyadigaram during his monastic years. In 1895, he took the Pali scriptural examination at Mahamakut Royal Buddhist University, advancing progressively through four levels. In 1896, he came to Wat Thepsirin to pursue advanced scriptural studies under the direction of Somdet Phra Maha Samanajao, and that same year he took the examination at Mahamakut Royal Buddhist University, advancing through seven levels and receiving first-prize honors at every stage from the basic to the highest level. He then became head teacher of the Pali language school at Wat Thepsirin. By 1898, having completed seven rains retreats and reaching age 27, he was appointed as ecclesiastical superior in Prachuap Buri province and also appointed supervisor of Wat Samphanthawong on January 22 of that year. On Wednesday, January 25, 1898, following the resignation of Mom Chao Phra Srisukat Kattayanu as abbot of Wat Thepsirin, he was appointed as abbot of Wat Thepsirin. Upon assuming his duties, there were 46 resident monks and 30 novices at the temple. During his early ordinations with only seven rains retreats, he served as ordination master, as his seniority was not yet sufficient for the rank of preceptor. He therefore invited Somdet Phra Maha Samanajao to serve as the resident preceptor. His monastic ranks progressed as follows: May 25, 1902, appointed as senior ecclesiastical superior at Wat Phra Muni; May 6, 1906, appointed as celestial-ranked ecclesiastical superior at Wat Phichaiyadigaram; January 25, 1910, appointed as dhamma-ranked ecclesiastical superior at Wat Dhammaitrailokajarn. On September 24, 1921, he was appointed as vice-president of the Dhammayut Nikaya; on November 6, 1928, he was appointed as president of the Northern Council. In terms of administrative positions within the Sangha: in 1898, he became abbot of Wat Thepsirin; in 1902, he was appointed as provincial council chairman for Prachuap Buri; in 1924, he became provincial council chairman for both Prachuap Buri and Chanthaburi; in 1932, he became chairman of the Council of Elders; in 1945, he became Sangha Supreme Patriarch; in 1949, he became Supreme Patriarch for the second time. He suffered from liver cancer and passed away on Friday, June 8, 1950, at 10:00 a.m. The Medal of Progress was created in 1971 to commemorate the 99th anniversary of his birth.

Police Dismantle Online Gambling Network, Seize Over 1 Million Baht in Cash and Gold

Thai police dismantled an online gambling network in Tak Province on May 26, seizing over 1 million baht in cash, gold, and arresting three operators who managed roughly 100 million baht in annual transactions.

13h ago Khaosod

At noon on May 26, 2025, the Cybercrime Investigation Division in Muang Thong Thani, led by Police Major General Surpol Prembut and his deputies, conducted coordinated raids at two locations in Mae Sod District, Tak Province, targeting the betflix-bet5 online gambling network. The operation resulted in the seizure of one vehicle, over 1 million baht in cash, 40 baht of gold, and multiple banking documents, with investigations revealing approximately 100 million baht in annual circulation.

At the first location, authorities arrested a 34-year-old man identified as Thiraphan (surname withheld) who managed cash withdrawals and receivables from the gambling operation. The second location yielded two additional arrests: a 58-year-old woman named Thipapa (surname withheld) who served as an account manager, and a 32-year-old man named Thirapong (surname withheld) who handled money transfers and withdrawals. Officers recovered mobile phones, bank books, laptops, and portable hard drives as evidence.

Undercover police officers successfully registered as members of the website and conducted test transactions involving baccarat gambling, confirming the network's operation. The network offered multiple gambling services including football prediction betting, slots, baccarat, fish-shooting games, lotteries, and other games through illegal cash deposit and withdrawal mechanisms routed through corporate bank accounts. The suspects face charges of operating an unlicensed electronic gambling operation, soliciting participants, and conspiracy to commit the offense.

Diverse Vehicles – Long-Distance Drive with the Mitsubishi XForce: Smooth Suspension and Reasonable Fuel Economy

The Mitsubishi XForce hybrid SUV delivers smooth suspension and responsive handling across diverse road conditions, from urban streets to highways, with strong grip in wet weather and fuel-efficient performance on long-distance drives.

13h ago Khaosod

Although the team had participated in a test drive of the Mitsubishi XForce, a crossover-style SUV, several months ago, the short distance covered didn't provide enough time to fully grasp the vehicle's overall character or get a reliable sense of fuel consumption. After consulting with Wichanya Nualuai, PR Manager at Tri Diamond, we got the opportunity for a more thorough evaluation.

The XForce's design follows the SILKY & SOLID concept, appearing modern and powerful. The front features an ADVANCE DYNAMIC SHIELD grille, LED headlights, and distinctive ICONIC T-SHAPE LED taillights in Smoked finish arranged in a T-pattern that looks striking and unique. The side lines and design are well-proportioned, conveying agility and stability. Large 18-inch alloy wheels are complemented by wheel arches with materials and colors that contrast with the body.

Inside, the cabin features a two-tone color scheme, a 12.3-inch touchscreen supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, and an 8-inch information display divided into three sections showing various data.

Power comes from a 1.6-liter full-hybrid MIVEC DOHC engine producing 107 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 134 Newton-meters of torque at 4,500 rpm, working alongside an 85 kW electric motor delivering 116 horsepower and 255 Newton-meters of torque in a two-speed transmission.

The automatic drivetrain adjusts based on driving style and road conditions. Off the line, even in Normal mode, it delivers satisfying acceleration. In EV mode, acceleration and overtaking feel responsive. In urban conditions, the vehicle handles both large and small obstacles comfortably.

The steering provides good directional control. The suspension on smooth roads is smooth and quiet, with adequate softness—not as refined as a luxury sedan, but the bumps don't transmit to the steering wheel or seats. Passing through potholes, ruts, and bridge joints at appropriate speeds results in no bouncing whatsoever.

On curves, however, the early sections require slightly more focus. It doesn't feel particularly tight, partly due to unfamiliarity with the AYC (Active Yaw Control) system. On later curves, when approaching at appropriate speed, the vehicle flows through smoothly without requiring brake input—just confident steering inputs.

On open highways, we tested the Tarmac mode, described by Mitsubishi as a sport mode that tightens engine and transmission response. The vehicle accelerates forward rapidly. Speed builds smoothly from 90-120 km/h, though acceleration slows afterwards. Engine noise becomes noticeably louder, and hard acceleration braking creates noticeable weight transfer that could cause motion sickness on extended drives.

When heavy rain suddenly began, we switched to WET mode for improved grip confidence. The vehicle showed no signs of hydroplaning or water skidding, maintaining good speed even on flooded roads.

The XForce offers multiple driving modes including 100% electric, continuous charging, rough terrain, and notably, a clay road mode that works effectively without relying on four-wheel drive.

Our test covered a total distance of 564.4 kilometers.

Mae Fah Luang University is advancing comprehensive innovation and business development services to help students, faculty, staff, and entrepreneurs successfully commercialize their knowledge and research. The university's Intellectual Property and Innovation Management Division offers end-to-end services beginning with innovation design that develops concepts into market-responsive prototypes with expert consultation. This is coupled with intellectual property management services covering patent searches, registration, work protection, technology transfer, and commercialization guidance.

A key highlight is the MFU Cosmetic Pilot Plant, which supports semi-industrial product development from formula testing through prototype production to quality standard advancement, particularly for Thai herbal products with high growth potential. The university also provides creative business and innovation spaces where entrepreneurs can develop ideas, create prototypes, and network with experts, investors, and business partners to foster a sustainable innovation ecosystem.

One success story exemplifying the system's effectiveness involves students who developed a product from "ant eggs" in collaboration with Mee Chiva community enterprise in Wieng Chai district, Chiang Rai. The project received systematic incubation through design, branding, intellectual property registration, and prototype production at the university's facility. Their product, branded "Pamori," won the "Best of the Best" award in the Omsin Youth Development and Local Preservation Project 2025, competing against entries from 67 educational institutions and 342 communities nationwide. The product exemplifies the integration of local wisdom with modern innovation and commercial potential.

This success aligns with sustainable development goals SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by supporting new entrepreneurs and economic growth from innovation, and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) by promoting innovation infrastructure, research, and technology development for real-world application. The achievement underscores Mae Fah Luang University's crucial role in driving innovation-based economics, cultivating new entrepreneurs, and elevating Thai products to future markets sustainably.

Democrats Discuss with Subdistrict Administration Association on Pushing Decentralization, Study Plans for Local Government Ministry

The Democrat Party met with Thailand's Subdistrict Administrators Association to discuss advancing decentralization, boosting local government revenue, and creating a new Local Government Ministry to oversee local administration nationwide.

13h ago Khaosod

The Democrat Party held talks with the Association of Subdistrict Administrators of Thailand on advancing decentralization, increasing local government revenue, and exploring the establishment of a Local Government Ministry to systematically oversee local administration nationwide. On May 26, 2026, at Democrat Party headquarters, party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and southern regional deputy leader Chaiyachan Detdetcho welcomed Khunpoch Praedham, administrator of the Association of Subdistrict Administrators of Thailand and mayor of Krajiew Subdistrict Administration Organization in Ayutthaya Province, along with Pithaya Teravachananth, mayor of Saiyamul Subdistrict, to discuss decentralization and local development approaches.

Chaiyachan stated that the Democrat Party invited the association to discuss three key issues: decentralization strategies to address problems facing local officials, increasing revenue sources for local government organizations to strengthen them, and exchanging ideas about establishing a Ministry of Local Government to systematically manage local administration nationwide. The Democrat Party has championed decentralization since Chuan Leekpai served as Prime Minister, when a budget framework of 35 percent was set for local government organizations, though currently they receive only 29.5 percent.

Chaiyachan emphasized that local government organizations are the closest institutions to the people throughout their lives and are the first responders to solve community problems. Therefore, strengthening local governments through increased revenue and administrative flexibility is essential and requires collective effort from all parties.

The association will further study the proposals and information before meeting again with the Democrat Party to advance them through parliamentary processes for the benefit of local government organizations and the public nationwide. Khunpoch stated this represents a valuable opportunity for the longstanding Democrat Party to prioritize decentralization, having been instrumental in promoting the Decentralization Act B.E. 2542. This discussion marks an important starting point for reviewing and adjusting decentralization processes to align with the act's principles and strengthen local government organizations at all levels, recognizing that a strong local government means a stronger Thailand.

Phra Dej Reveals 2025 Budget Reallocation Bill Expected to Yield Only 200 Billion Baht Due to Committed Projects

Thailand's 2025 budget reallocation bill is expected to yield only 200 billion baht due to many projects having already committed funds, government spokesman Phra Dej announced May 26.

13h ago Khaosod

Government spokesman Phra Dej Parischanananthakul disclosed on May 26, 2025, at Government House that the draft budget reallocation bill for fiscal year 2025 is projected to generate approximately 200 billion baht due to some projects already having committed funds.

No project requests have been submitted yet. The government is awaiting the return of Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanpraprach from overseas before proposals can be submitted to the project screening committee, chaired by Permanent Secretary of Finance Luvorn Saengsanit, and subsequently to the cabinet for consideration.

Regarding inquiries about submitting clarifications to the Constitutional Court concerning the emergency loan decree, Phra Dej stated that no formal discussion has taken place, only informal consultations. Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilprapan, heading the legal affairs division, will coordinate with four economic agencies on this matter.

When reporters asked about the specific amount expected from the fiscal year 2025 budget reallocation bill, Phra Dej indicated that details have not yet been finalized but estimated around 20 billion baht, down from earlier projections. Opposition parties have criticized the government, suggesting that stronger commitment to the reallocation bill could yield larger amounts and questioning why funds were not reallocated earlier. Phra Dej responded that reallocation depends on conditions and eligibility—projects with already-committed budgets cannot have their allocations transferred.

Entertainment Scoop – 'NUVO' Announces Major Concert After 7 Years with 'NUVORIGINAL,' Celebrating 38 Years of Unbreakable Friendship

Legendary Thai pop-rock band NUVO reunites all six members for their biggest concert in seven years on August 1st at Siam Paragon, celebrating 38 years of friendship with an original sound merged with cinema performances.

13h ago Khaosod

Legendary pop-rock boy band NUVO is making fans excited again with their biggest concert in seven years, 'CIMBweBOND Presents NUVORIGINAL CONCERT,' featuring authentic original NUVO sound on Saturday, August 1st at Paragon Hall, Siam Paragon. All six members are reuniting to take fans back to the pure, unadulterated original NUVO era through original 80s album sounds, enhanced with fresh collaborations with GDH film team to create a show merging cinema and live concert, while revealing the secrets behind their 38-year friendship that remains strong, and promising to keep playing music until their hands shake and they're in wheelchairs.

The six members include Joe Jirayus Watthanasint, Kong Saharath Sangkhaprecha, John Ratnaviroj, Tae Peter Anthony Hammond, New Jirat Burakaramkawit, missing only Su Surachai Sunthorathadakul who has other commitments. They held a press conference at Cinema 8 Paragon Cineplex on the 5th floor of Siam Paragon.

Kong explained their reunion: "We wanted to play, and fans kept asking when the next big concert would be. We gradually planned and assembled everything until we settled on Saturday, August 1st."

John added: "The concert name 'NUVO Original' became combined into 'NUVORIGINAL.' It has the DNA of NUVO fan club members who wanted this, and we've brought it into this special show, breaking it into sections. I think it will definitely be impressive."

Joe elaborated on NUVO's authenticity: "It's about the old sound, the vintage sound. We need to find our own sound. This time is the most exciting because we have no backing—just the six of us standing together throughout the show, like an old cassette tape. At minimum, we need to bring back our original sound first. If we use too much synthesized sound, NUVO's essence disappears. We'll blend technology with director GDH to create film merged with live performance."

Kong shared: "I don't want to spoil too much, but there will be film story combined with the concert performance. We contacted the GDH team about doing this project, and when they heard our idea, they happily agreed."

Why has NUVO remained tight-knit after 38 years? Kong said: "Because we've been friends since childhood. There's nothing causing conflict to separate us. We're still friends beyond just playing music—we live our daily lives together, travel together."

Joe added: "Even if we weren't playing music together, we'd still be friends. We watch movies together, travel together, we do everything together."

John observed: "The six of us create music together, blend into harmony together, like a football team, sepak takraw team, or volleyball team that must coordinate. That coordination of longtime friendship is what bonds us tight. Playing for 38 years—we don't know if we'll reach 60, but it's possible, right Kong?"

Kong responded: "The Rolling Stones just released a new album at age 80. I have the Rolling Stones as my idol."

Asked if they'll keep performing, John answered: "We'll play until we're in wheelchairs." Kong laughed: "Until our hands shake!"

Finally, all shared a message for the upcoming concert. John said first: "How we used to play, how we used to feel, how you used to love us—NUVORIGINAL has it all."

Joe continued: "On August 1st, for NUVO fans who've watched us at music festivals, come this day and experience what NUVO truly is.

Little Friends – Khao Khiao Open Zoo Celebrates Success in Hatching Bengalese Finch Chicks!

Khao Khiao Open Zoo in Chachoengsao has successfully hatched bengalese finch chicks for the first time in Thailand, a major breakthrough for a species extinct in the wild domestically for over 40 years. The zoo is now the world's fourth off

13h ago Khaosod

Recently, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin announced with satisfaction that Khao Khiao Open Zoo in Chachoengsao Province has successfully hatched bengalese finch chicks for the first time in Thailand, marking a major achievement in conserving Thailand's endangered wildlife. The species has been extinct in the wild domestically for more than 40 years.

Suchart emphasized that the success reflects the potential and commitment of Thailand's wildlife conservation personnel from the Organization of Thailand's Zoos, Khao Khiao Open Zoo, veterinary teams, and animal care staff, who worked closely together to safely save the first bengalese finch chick.

Khao Khiao Open Zoo Director Narongwit Chatchoy explained that the successful hatching came from bengalese finch eggs from a single breeding pair remaining at the facility. The eggs were incubated in hatching boxes and hand-reared because the species produces only 1-2 eggs annually with a low hatching success rate. Staff implemented a "life-saving operation" to increase the chick's survival chances, ultimately achieving success.

This chick represents the first bengalese finch born from breeding efforts at Khao Khiao Open Zoo under the Organization of Thailand's Zoos, and is the first for member zoos of both the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums and the Southeast Asian Zoo and Aquarium Association. Khao Khiao Open Zoo is now the world's fourth official bengalese finch breeding facility, following Bang Phra Water Bird Station in Thailand, Assam State Zoo in India, and Angkor Biodiversity Conservation Centre in Cambodia.

"This success is another important step for Thailand in conserving endangered wildlife and demonstrates multi-sector cooperation in restoring populations of species nearing extinction," Suchart said. "The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will continue supporting research and breeding programs for rare wildlife to preserve the nation's biodiversity."

Doctors warn man who smokes 5 cigarettes daily with persistent cough for 3 months diagnosed with lung cancer after self-medicating

A working-age smoker who ignored a persistent three-month cough was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer after finally seeking medical care. Doctors warn that no amount of daily smoking is safe and symptoms lasting more than 2-3 weeks requir

13h ago Khaosod

Doctors are sounding the alarm about a working-age man who coughed for three months, constantly self-medicating without fever or fatigue while continuing normal work. He smoked five cigarettes daily, claiming "it's not that much," but later experienced decreased appetite, gradual weight loss, and loose-fitting clothes, which he attributed to work stress. When he finally coughed up blood and got a chest X-ray, small nodules scattered throughout his lungs were discovered. A CT scan revealed the cancer had already spread to his lymph nodes—confirming lung cancer. Many believe "not smoking much means nothing serious," but the truth is there is no safe number of cigarettes. Symptoms lasting more than 2-3 weeks warrant attention. Five warning signs to monitor are: persistent cough, weight loss, hoarseness, easy fatigue, and bloody cough. Serious diseases sometimes start with the most ordinary symptoms.
