Sacred Amulet News – Coins of Luang Pho Jan, Wat Bang Mohn, Ayutthaya Province

Luang Pho Jan Janthasaro, a revered Buddhist scholar and abbot of Wat Bang Mohn in Ayutthaya, lived 90 years devoted to monastic discipline and community education before his death in B.E. 2470. Commemorative coins bearing his image were ca

5 May Khaosod

Luang Pho Jan Janthasaro of Wat Bang Mohn was a renowned Buddhist scholar of ancient Ayutthaya who earned widespread reverence as a venerable teacher of his era. Born on a Monday in the 8th lunar month of B.E. 2380 in Bang Mohn Sub-district, Maha Raj District, Ayutthaya Province, to parents Nai Thob and Nang Sap, he received his early education at the temple, becoming literate in both Thai and Khmer scripts. At age 23 in B.E. 2403, he took monastic vows at Wat Bang Mohn under distinguished preceptors.

Luang Pho Jan embodied the ways of ancient monasticism, maintaining strict adherence to Buddhist precepts and teachings. Free from greed, he devoted himself to helping those in distress, which attracted many animals to seek refuge at the temple. As his knowledge deepened, he was appointed chief administrator in B.E. 2435, earned the title of preceptor in B.E. 2439, and later became deputy abbot. He ordained countless young men from the region—so many that nearly all villagers of Maha Raj became his disciples across generations of families.

A passionate scholar and collector of knowledge, he preserved valuable ancient texts for future generations to study. Recognized as a visionary, he maintained these treasures as exemplars of learning. Though he passed away over 90 years ago, his legacy endured. Through his compassion, strict moral conduct, and unwavering commitment to Buddhist teachings, he earned universal respect from both monastics and laypeople. He diligently trained monks and novices in strict discipline and taught nearby communities to pursue virtue without hesitation.

With steadfast dedication to supporting Buddhism and caring for the temple, Luang Pho Jan transformed Wat Bang Mohn into a flourishing institution in the Bang Na area, complete with quarters, teaching halls, and schools. The temple itself dates to the Ayutthaya period and has been continuously restored. The name "Wat Bang Mohn" derives from the presence of Rakhine people who migrated from ancient Ayutthaya to settle and make their living in this area. The temple is now officially called "Wat Bang Songop."

Luang Pho Jan devoted his entire life to religious service and good works until his peaceful passing on the third waning day of the third lunar month of the year Tao, at 4 p.m., corresponding to February 12, B.E. 2470. He lived 90 years, completing 67 Buddhist vassa (rains retreats). His funeral ceremony drew large crowds of devoted disciples and supporters.

Many sacred objects and amulets were created in his memory, with cast coins bearing his likeness becoming particularly famous. These coins were first cast in B.E. 2465 during a seven-fold merit-making ceremony celebrating his 84th birthday, organized by his disciples and supporters. At that time, Maha Thap Chalaiwares, one of his distinguished disciples, requested permission to create a life-sized bronze statue for veneration at Wat Bang Mohn. Permission was granted to also produce commemorative cast coins made of brass-blended metal. Approximately 1,500 coins were minted and distributed to reverential disciples and devotees as items of veneration, each valued at one baht.

James Jirayou Once Drank Heavily Every Night, His Health Suffered—He Made a Comeback Thanks to His Wife

Thai television personality James Jirayou shares how he overcame years of heavy partying and poor health with his wife's strict discipline and consistent training, achieving an impressive six-pack physique. In an interview, he discusses his recent Hyrox competition experience, admitting he underestimated the event and discovered that functional fitness requires different training than traditional gym work. James emphasizes that sustainable fitness results come from starting with simple, achievable steps and building momentum gradually rather than pursuing extreme transformations.

5 May Khaosod

James Jirayou reveals his darkest days when he partied every night, barely sleeping for a year until his health crashed and his allergies flared up. His wife's strict discipline helped him recover through daily running and regular gym sessions, though he now battles high cholesterol that may require lifelong medication. He emphasizes that achieving results requires starting with simple, actionable steps, building momentum, and trusting that determination will take you further than expected.

When asked about his Hyrox experience, James admitted he wasn't satisfied because he underestimated the event during simulation and didn't train seriously enough. He relied on his running background, believing it would give him an advantage, but discovered that functional movements like lifting and carrying required different strength than gym training. He was surprised by his own anxiety at the actual event, noting the intense atmosphere and pressure as people took off their shirts and stretched before the race. He found himself in an unexpectedly competitive wave and realized he wasn't the slowest, describing the experience as exhilarating despite the exhaustion—feeling like his life had become either too comfortable or his fitness training was too easy.

Regarding his physique goals, James said he wants to maintain his current look rather than push further, as genetics and body structure make it increasingly difficult. He believes adding more muscle mass would require excessive training and eating that he's not willing to commit to. His current philosophy is to start with simple, manageable steps rather than immediately pursuing complicated routines. As difficulty increases, the complexity compounds, requiring more careful calculations of food intake and training balance. His first goal is to learn how to maintain his current physique rather than continuously chase bigger gains.

Deputy PM Ekniti Explains 400-Billion-Baht Emergency Loan Decree; Seeks Cabinet Approval on May 14

Thailand's cabinet approved a 400-billion-baht emergency loan decree to address the energy crisis and support vulnerable communities, with Finance Minister Ekniti seeking formal approval on May 14 to fund relief programs and renewable energ

5 May Khaosod

At noon on May 5, 2025, at Government House, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithamprasert announced that the cabinet had approved an emergency decree (Phra Ratchakamnut) authorizing the Finance Ministry to borrow 400 billion baht to address impacts from the energy crisis and facilitate the country's energy transition.

Nitithamprasert stated that the emergency is urgent due to Middle East instability affecting people globally, making swift action necessary to preserve the nation's economic security. The decree is issued under Article 172 of the Constitution and aligns with Article 53 of the 2561 State Finance Discipline Act, with expedited review by the Office of the Council of State.

The loan comprises two main programs:

Program 1: Relief for vulnerable communities, farmers, and business operators affected by the energy crisis under the "Thailand Helps Thailand Plus" initiative with 200 billion baht allocation. This aims to ease the cost of living and sustain economic activities, targeting low- and middle-income earners, farmers, and SMEs. It also reduces agricultural costs and supports continued business operations.

Program 2: Promotion of energy efficiency and support for the transition from fossil fuel dependency to renewable and alternative energy technologies, with 200 billion baht. Measures include reducing fossil fuel use, installing renewable energy systems, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, earning carbon credits, promoting eco-friendly vehicles, and establishing electric charging stations.

The objectives are: (1) resolve the cost-of-living crisis and aid affected vulnerable groups, and (2) turn crisis into opportunity by transitioning away from oil and natural gas dependency toward clean energy and the modern economy.

When asked about critics questioning the urgency, Nitithamprasert responded that the crisis is severe. The 2025 budget remaining is under 50 billion baht and the central budget reserve has only 20 billion baht remaining. The 2026 budget won't be available until October, making it insufficient. Therefore, the emergency decree is necessary, particularly the 200 billion baht for vulnerable groups, which also aids the energy transition by reducing costs and the nation's energy import dependency.

Diverse Vehicles – Off-roading Adventure with the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ: A Boxy Beast Built for Fun and Exploration Anywhere

The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is generating significant buzz as a retro-styled off-road SUV that combines an iconic boxy design with genuine capability rooted in 75 years of Land Cruiser heritage. Built on a short-wheelbase pickup platform, the FJ features a 2.7-liter engine producing 166 horsepower, innovative off-road technology, and a surprisingly comfortable interior for both on-road and adventure driving. Testing demonstrates that despite its pickup truck roots, the vehicle delivers premium suspension comfort and impressive off-road performance, making it an excellent choice for enthusiasts seeking both style and substance.

5 May Khaosod

The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ stands out as the most talked-about and hottest vehicle right now, combining its appealing boxy design with impressive off-road performance that preserves the Land Cruiser's 75-year legacy. The FJ is developed from the Toyota Hi-Lux Champ short-wheelbase pickup platform and features a retro-cool cubic design that embodies fun and strength, true to its FJ (Freedom & Joy) designation.

Design highlights include angular LED headlights with daytime running lights, a split front bumper, large wheel wells, extended side panels, black door handles, and 18-inch black alloy wheels. The rear features a spare tire with an organized cover and a side-swing tailgate that locks securely, complemented by distinctive LED taillights.

The interior, while appearing compact from outside, offers decent width and height. The second-row seats slide back 75mm for additional legroom, though the seats are somewhat short and lack rear air conditioning vents. The suspension delivers surprising comfort, absorbing bumps and lane-change forces smoothly despite its pickup-truck foundation, offering the refinement of a premium SUV.

The driving position provides excellent forward visibility from the vehicle's height and the recessed center of the hood. The 12.3-inch central touchscreen and 7-inch driver display feature durable, sunproof coating materials, though the rear-view mirror is slightly obstructed by the spare tire and headrest.

Powered by a 2.7-liter engine producing 166 horsepower and 245 Newton-meters of torque, the FJ accelerates smoothly despite its 2-ton weight. The responsive 6-speed automatic transmission offers a manual mode for spirited driving, complemented by tight suspension and responsive steering.

Off-road testing revealed impressive capabilities: on gravel roads with 4H mode engaged, traction remained excellent. The short wheelbase proved advantageous on tight, twisting trails with sharp turns. On steeper terrain, 4L mode was necessary, and the 2nd Start Mode button helped with initial hill-climbing by engaging second gear, demonstrating the vehicle's thoughtful off-road engineering.

Military Officer Decho Acknowledges Charges in Shooting Case of MP Kamlasak; Police Separate Interrogations, Focus on Mystery of 10 Phone Numbers

Military officer Decho Rattanapath appeared for interrogation at Narathiwat police headquarters on charges of allegedly hiring someone to attempt murdering MP Kamlasak, with investigators conducting separate interviews to examine connection

5 May Khaosod

At 11:30 AM on May 5, 2025, military officer Decho Rattanapath, who was summoned, arrived at Narathiwat Provincial Police Headquarters following MP Kamlasak Leewamaw's additional complaint against two military officers—Major Montri Toepraserit and Lieutenant Decho—on charges of allegedly hiring someone to carry out or supporting an attempted murder.

Decho avoided the waiting media and went directly into interrogation, marking his first public appearance since the shooting incident on March 20. Deputy Region 9 Commander Theresa Kaewlaruad, heading the investigation team, revealed that both officers are currently undergoing separate interrogations in different rooms to prevent coordinated testimony and to allow investigators to freely explore connections between the 10 phone numbers in question.

"We must proceed with meticulous care since this case is under public scrutiny and the suspects are government officials," Theresa stated. "Separate interrogations will help us clearly identify any consistency or contradictions in their statements."

Security was tightened around Narathiwat Provincial Police Headquarters, while the attorneys for both officers reportedly prepared to request bail, arguing that their clients have no history of fleeing and promptly reported as summoned, suggesting court proceedings could conclude by tomorrow.

Entertainment Star – 'Tee' the Hot Goalkeeper Becomes a Leading Man in 'Curse of the City'

Former Uthai Thani FC goalkeeper 'Tee' Bunjakiat Wongsa-Aeng makes his acting debut in the Northern Thai film 'Curse of the City,' playing a fireworks-selling boy opposite 'Nam Taan' Pichakkhana Wongsaratanasil.

5 May Khaosod

Transitioning from goalkeeper at Uthai Thani FC, 'Tee' Bunjakiat Wongsa-Aeng makes his acting debut alongside 'Nam Taan' Pichakkhana Wongsaratanasil in the film 'Curse of the City,' directed by 'Kop' Anuvart Promjang.

On his first film experience: 'Tee' – "I'm very excited. As a footballer, I don't usually get opportunities like this. I decided to take the role because it's a Northern Thai film, and I'm from Lampang already. When the opportunity came up, I talked with my manager about trying something new. This is my first entertainment project and my first film role. I play Sai, a Northern Thai boy who sells fireworks back home. The preparation was intense and every scene was challenging, but I got through it well thanks to the film crew and Nam Taan's support."

On working with Nam Taan: 'Tee' – "I was nervous at first, but she told me to relax and said she believed in us. She gave me confidence during shoots, making me feel comfortable and enjoy the experience."

On working with director Kop: 'Tee' – "The director is also from the North, from Lampang like me. He told me he's been following me as an athlete from our province. Turns out we're from the same sub-district, living close by. We understand each other easily, especially speaking Northern Thai dialect. Since the other actors are also from the North, we bonded quickly and got along well."

On using the Northern dialect: 'Tee' – "100 percent, and it's the local dialect. We specifically focused on the Lampang accent. When I slipped into a Chiang Mai accent, the director would correct me to use the Lampang pronunciation."

On the most memorable scene: 'Tee' – "All scenes impressed me, but the most memorable is when my character reunites with his father after he's gone, and Nam Taan's character makes that happen. It required me to build up emotions, and in real life I've also lost my father, so it really touched me. This film is a romantic comedy with some scary elements, but it's cute scary. I want everyone to watch it. It's a Northern Thai film in 4-5 years since 'Som Por.' I'd like people to come see this love story from the murals of 'Poo Man Ya Man' from Nan province."

On his football career: 'Tee' – "I'm still with Uthai Thani FC and still training. This year I might step back a bit from my role since I'm doing my first BL series 'Don't Be Too Emotional.' I might focus more on acting this year, but I won't abandon football."

On his coach and teammates' reactions: 'Tee' – "They were shocked because I've been with the team for 6 years as a regular player. Before the season started, I talked to the club president about this project. He was surprised but gave permission. Between acting and football, acting might take up more time this year. Once I tried it, I found it fun and quite different from football. The BL series is a new experience. Before filming, the production company Dee Hup sent me to workshops for almost a year. I want people to remember me as both a footballer and an actor, remembering both sides. I've been playing football for 10 years and just started acting—I don't want anyone to forget either role. The discipline, physical training, and focus from football can be applied to acting. With 2-3 thousand spectators in the stadium, I bring that calmness into acting."

On love and his ideal type: 'Tee' – "I like someone fun and easy to talk to, someone who makes me laugh. Our jobs are stressful enough. But right now, I'm not focusing on relationships. I want to dedicate myself fully to football and acting first because I feel like time might be tight for both."

Message to fans: 'Tee' – "I'd like to promote the film...

5 May Khaosod

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation is accelerating coordination with the professional council to have Nation University clarify facts within this week following complaints from parents of dental students regarding an unaccredited curriculum. On May 5, 2025, at MHESI headquarters, Sombutti Rungsaruensri, Director of the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Division, and Benjapa Musikasint, Director of the Central Division, were assigned to receive the complaint letter from parents of dental faculty students at Nation University in Lampang province regarding the curriculum's failure to obtain accreditation from the Dental Council, impacting students. Sombutti stated that MHESI is deeply concerned about the situation and has begun preliminary coordination with the professional council to gather factual information. The ministry has also written to the university requesting clarification and concrete solutions within this week. He assured students and parents: "MHESI will closely collaborate with the professional council to find appropriate remedies, such as additional instruction or practical training to meet professional standards. Should the university's explanation prove insufficient, we may propose appointing a fact-finding committee and convening three-party negotiations between MHESI, the professional council, and the university to reach fair solutions and protect students' rights fully." Parent representatives stated that 19 parents from four class cohorts (second through fifth year) affected by the issue participated in this visit, divided into two groups: continuing students, particularly fourth and fifth-year students, and those who withdrew upon learning of the accreditation problem. They noted the situation has severely impacted students' educational futures and created substantial financial burdens. They urged MHESI to urgently clarify the curriculum's accreditation status and establish remedies including tuition refunds, equipment compensation, and support for transferring to other institutions.

5 May Khaosod

Mega Bangna shopping mall, in collaboration with the Chor Chor Sar Project, has delivered animal shelters to SOS Animal Thailand Foundation in Ratchaburi province to improve the living conditions of animals under the foundation's care. The shelters provide protection from sun and rain, along with appropriate living spaces for these vulnerable animals.

These shelters are part of the social initiatives stemming from Mega Pet Day 2026: See the World Through My Paws, now in its fifth consecutive year of strengthening the pet-loving community. As part of the event, pet owners and participants created collaborative canvas artwork under the concept "From Paws to Paws Charity," which was then assembled into functional shelters for delivery to the foundation's care center in Ratchaburi.

The Chor Chor Sar Project applied small-scale architecture principles to design the shelters using recycled materials, creating practical refuges for stray and rescued animals. These shelters not only enhance safety and improve living conditions for stray animals but also reflect harmonious coexistence between people, animals, and the community. This donation demonstrates the collective power of the pet-loving community generated through Mega Pet Day 2026, transforming small individual efforts into tangible benefits for animals in need.

Gawya Naen Crocodile Brand Files Complaint with Cyber Police Against Influencer 'Bird Vanvangvang' Under Computer Crimes Act

Adhesive brand Gawya Naen filed a Computer Crimes Act complaint with cyber police against influencer Bird Vanvangvang over a Songkran video where she mixed white powder into the company's products, potentially facing up to three years impri

5 May Khaosod

Gawya Naen Crocodile Brand has escalated its legal action against influencer 'Bird Vanvangvang' following a controversial video posted during Songkran celebrations in Phra Pradaeng district, Samut Prakan province, where she mixed white powder into the company's adhesive product packaging and distributed it to the public. The incident sparked widespread criticism over the inappropriate and dangerous nature of the content.

On May 5, 2025, the company's legal team met with cyber police investigators at the Muang Thong Thani Police Station (Minburi Division) to discuss prosecution strategies due to damage to the company's reputation. The legal representatives stated they would discuss all applicable laws with police, particularly violations under the Computer Crimes Act, and confirmed the company would pursue legal action despite Bird Vanvangvang's claims that the content was merely entertainment and the powder was harmless flour. The company asserted its right to legal recourse, citing multiple video clips with clearly identifiable brand logos causing demonstrable harm.

Damage Control Branch Deputy Commander Chatchapan Klaimliang revealed that preliminary charges appear to fall under Section 14(1) of the Computer Crimes Act regarding uploading distorted information into computer systems that causes public alarm, carrying penalties of up to 5 years imprisonment or 100,000 baht fine. When targeting specific individuals or juristic entities like the company, penalties reduce to up to 3 years imprisonment, 60,000 baht fine, or both.

Bird Vanvangvang's lawyer has scheduled a meeting with cyber police for May 6, 2025, at 11:30 AM, though authorities may defer proceedings until late in the week. An additional charge may be filed beyond the existing assault case filed by Phra Pradaeng Police Station.

Authorities have already blocked some of Bird Vanvangvang's accounts through the Digital Ministry, but X and YouTube accounts remain active as they operate internationally and require coordination through the Attorney General's Office and MLAT system. Cyber Police have advised that if Bird Vanvangvang voluntarily closes her accounts or removes the content, it would demonstrate remorse and recognition of the harmful nature of the material.

Police have urged anyone sharing the influencer's content to delete it immediately, as sharing carries equivalent penalties to posting. Meanwhile, an electric saw company whose equipment Bird used during Songkran festivities has not yet filed a formal complaint with cyber police. Additionally, if the Tourism Authority of Thailand believes the content damages Thailand's tourism image, they may also file complaints with the cyber police division.
