Woman Accuses Fitness Center of Negligence After Male Maintenance Worker Appears in Sauna While She's Wearing Only a Towel; Membership Cancelled
A woman in Udon Thani province filed a complaint against a hotel fitness center after a male maintenance worker stared at her while she was wearing only a towel in the women's sauna area. When she sought an apology from management, she was met with hostility and her membership was cancelled, prompting her to pursue legal action for emotional distress damages.
A 30-year-old woman, Ms. M., has filed a complaint against a hotel fitness center in Udon Thani province after an incident on April 25, 2025. After finishing her sauna session, she was standing at the reception area in just a towel with wet hair, preparing to shower, when a housekeeper brought in a male maintenance worker to repair the sauna room. The worker stared directly at her without looking away before entering the sauna room. Ms. M. quickly dressed and left the hotel to calm herself, never having experienced such a situation before.
When she requested a meeting with the female manager to seek an apology and accountability, she was instead met with poor treatment and emotional outbursts. The manager was unwilling to have the staff apologize or promise the incident wouldn't happen again. After Ms. M. posted about the incident on Facebook, the fitness center owner contacted her via chat, but soon after, the manager cancelled her membership without accepting responsibility.
Ms. M. stated she spent a sleepless night feeling anxious and stressed. She reported the incident to police, but was confronted with hostility and questions about her right to take photos on the property. She has now filed a legal claim seeking six-figure compensation for emotional distress. The hotel's Facebook page later posted an apology, stating "We sincerely apologize for what occurred. This was an error that should never have happened. We understand our customer felt unsafe. We have reviewed and improved our operational procedures and instructed our staff accordingly to prevent such incidents in the future."
