On May 11-12, 2025, the TO BE NUMBER ONE network held its annual seminar at the Diamond Hall on the 5th floor of Asia Airport Hotel in Lam Luk Ka District, Pathum Thani Province, with Dr. Srutkpun Chakkrapun Na Ayutthaya, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Mental Health, presiding over the opening ceremony.

Dr. Srutkpun stated that this seminar represented an important milestone for the nationwide TO BE NUMBER ONE network, bringing members together to learn about competition criteria and guidelines for provinces, districts, Bangkok zones, and clubs for 2025. Attendance this year exceeded 1,300 participants, marking record participation compared to previous years.

The seminar was graced by senior administrators from provinces, districts, and Bangkok, as well as representatives from various TO BE NUMBER ONE clubs from regional provinces and Bangkok, along with competition judges, coordination committees, and mental health department officials from various areas. All worked collectively to advance the TO BE NUMBER ONE project, fulfilling the vision of promoting nationwide participation and cultivating a new generation that embodies the program's values. Over 23 years of continuous implementation, the TO BE NUMBER ONE initiative has achieved remarkable success in fostering youth and members with resilience, capability, goodness, and happiness—living by the principle of "being number one without drug dependence."

During the seminar, Mom Luang Yupadi Siriwan, the TO BE NUMBER ONE project advisor and secretary-general of the TO BE NUMBER ONE Foundation, delivered a special lecture on the competition criteria and guidelines for provinces, districts, zones, and clubs participating in the 2025 competition, providing direction for network members.

President Donald Trump has announced the U.S. will send an additional 5,000 troops to Poland, just a week after the Pentagon cancelled a planned deployment of 4,000 troops to the country. Trump posted on Truth Social that the decision is based on the U.S. relationship with Polish President Karol Nawrocki, a longtime Trump supporter whom Trump backed in recent elections. However, Trump did not clarify whether these forces are part of the original deployment plan or a separate operation, contradicting recent White House signals that the U.S. government intended to reduce overall troop numbers in Europe as part of Trump's "America First" policy. Earlier in May, the U.S. announced it would withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany following tensions between Trump and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz over policy regarding Iran. Trump had previously criticized Merz, claiming the U.S. was outmaneuvered by Iranian negotiators. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated the cancellation was a temporary postponement of the planned troop deployment, and the U.S. would maintain military presence in Poland. In a January interview with BBC's Today program, Polish President Nawrocki said Trump is the only world leader capable of stopping Russian President Vladimir Putin and ending the war in Ukraine. While Trump has criticized NATO allies and other European leaders in the past, Nawrocki emphasized that the U.S. remains the guarantor of European security.

Doctor issues warning about snake bite myths that provide no real help. The dangerous practice of applying a tight tourniquet above a snake bite doesn't prevent venom from reaching the heart—instead, it can cut off blood circulation to the limb, potentially requiring amputation.

On May 22, 2026, Facebook user Dr. Suksan Pinsuwann posted a warning clarifying this dangerous misconception. He emphasized that applying a tourniquet to a snake bite is absolutely forbidden and does not protect against venom reaching the heart; instead, blood loss to the limb could result in amputation.

The correct procedure includes: washing the wound with clean water and immediately seeking medical attention, avoiding cutting or sucking the bite area, avoiding tight binding that cuts off pulse circulation, and remembering the snake's appearance to inform the doctor for proper treatment. If possible, bring the snake to medical professionals.

Chinese operators have been illegally manufacturing counterfeit car polish bearing the CANA trademark and selling it through online shopping platforms, with warnings that the products contain carcinogenic substances. On May 22, Police Lieutenant Colonel Tasnapoom Charupratchya, commander of the Intellectual Property Crime Suppression Division, led officers in executing a search warrant at a commercial building in Samsen Nai subdistrict, Bang Khun Thian district, Bangkok. Officers seized 184 counterfeit CANA-branded car polish containers. The raid followed a complaint from intellectual property rights representatives about the illegal online sale of counterfeit CANA car polish. During questioning, warehouse employees claimed the products belonged to a Chinese national and they were only responsible for packing and shipping. Officers are pursuing charges against the Chinese operator for possessing counterfeit goods intended for sale that infringe on a registered trademark. Police Lieutenant Colonel Tasnapoom warned that counterfeit car polish not only violates intellectual property laws but also causes direct harm to vehicles and users. These products typically contain low-grade chemicals and harsh solvents that corrode surfaces, along with low-quality chemical compounds with high toxic fumes or carcinogenic ingredients. Users inhaling fumes during application or experiencing direct skin contact may suffer severe respiratory irritation or accumulate harmful substances with serious long-term health consequences.

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has signed contracts for two extensions of Bangkok's Red Line suburban railway network, with construction expected to begin in July 2026. The projects include the Dark Red Line extension from Rangsit to Thammasat University's Rangsit campus and the Light Red Line extension from Siriraj to Taling Chan and Salaya. The contract signing ceremony was held on 19 May at Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal in Bangkok. The Dark Red Line extension, worth 6.057 billion baht, was signed with Unique Engineering and Construction. The 8.84km route will include four stations: Khlong Nueng, Bangkok University, Chiang Rak and Thammasat University Rangsit. The Light Red Line extension, valued at 14.72 billion baht, was awarded to the UT Joint Venture led by Unique Engineering and Construction and Trustee Construction. The 20.5km route will include nine stations linking Siriraj, Taling Chan and Salaya. Acting SRT governor Anan Photinimdaeng said the projects are part of the government's long-term rail transport development strategy aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving public transport connectivity between Bangkok and surrounding provinces. He said the Dark Red Line project would mainly use existing railway land, with partial land expropriation of about 22,400 square metres for station construction and access roads. The SRT expects both projects to take 36 months to complete, with operations scheduled to begin in 2029. Officials said the new extensions would help shorten travel time between Pathum Thani and Bangkok, improve rail access in western Bangkok and support economic growth around station areas.

Will McMillan, a Thai-Australian windsurfer, made a strong comeback by finishing in the Gold Fleet at the IQFoil European Championship 2026 in Portimão, Portugal (May 16-23, 2026), and has secured his quota for the World Windsurfing Championship in England (September 4-11, 2026). The Thai windsurfing team competed in the European championship, with the 20-year-old McMillan delivering an outstanding performance in the Gold Fleet. Additionally, Lt. Col. Nitiphattana Chaiyavuthiwet, currently ranked near the top of the Silver Fleet, still has a chance to secure a world championship quota.

According to Pattana Boonsawat, secretary-general of the Windsurfing Association of Thailand, McMillan has represented Thailand since 2566 (2023), including competing at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, and attempting to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games. After suffering an injury that sidelined him for over a year, McMillan returned to competition with two events in Europe in early April before traveling from Australia to compete with the Thai team.
