PM Orders Urgent Aid for Injured, Support for Families of 8 Dead in Train-Bus Collision with Fire
A freight train collided with a passenger bus near Bangkok's Makkasan station on May 16, igniting a fire that killed eight people; the Prime Minister ordered urgent aid for the injured and support for victims' families.
At 5:00 PM on May 16, 2025 near Khao Klang Nok in Phetchabun province, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Interior Minister, accompanied by their delegation, were visiting Khao Klang Nok, an important archaeological site within the Sri Thep World Heritage area in Phetchabun province. During their visit, the PM received reports of a freight train carrying cargo containers colliding with a passenger bus near the Airport Rail Link Makkasan station, causing a fire. He immediately instructed relevant agencies to urgently assist the injured, support victims' families, facilitate medical treatment, and conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident while closely monitoring the situation.
The Deputy Transport Minister proceeded to the scene to monitor the situation. The Ministry of Public Health prepared to receive the injured by ordering Lerdsin Hospital, Noppharat Rajathanee Hospital, and Rajavithi Hospital to ready emergency rooms, operating rooms, ICU beds, and burn units with adequate blood supplies. Initially, Rajavithi Hospital received 2 critical-condition patients and 5 moderate-condition patients. The Department of Mental Health requested the public to refrain from sharing or distributing images of the injured and deceased.
After visiting Khao Klang Nok, the PM proceeded to Puthai Subdistrict Municipality in Wichian Buri district to preside over the opening of the 2025 Bung Fire Festival celebration.
