Thailand's windsurfing team is competing in the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China, with competition scheduled for April 23-28, 2025, targeting two gold medals. After competition concluded on April 25, halfway through the event, Wachirwit Thanoup ("Whale") holds 3rd place in the iQFoil men's under-21 category with 21 points, while "Gao" Ratchanan Khunjaeng sits in 7th with 35 points. Leading is Yiguohua Wang of China with 5 points, followed by Denver John Castillo of the Philippines with 19 points.
In the women's iQFoil under-21 category, "Cake" Chanatakarn Charoemsuk occupies 8th place with 36 points, and "Joy" Wannida Winthachai holds 9th with 37 points. China's Yihmin Chen leads with 6 points, followed by Hong Kong's Ching Suuit Yuan with 7 points.
Pattana Bunsawat, secretary-general of the Thailand Windsurfing Association, who traveled to support the team, revealed that challenging wind conditions and inconsistent breezes have posed significant obstacles. He noted that the Thai athletes' starts need improvement and has instructed coaches Sakda Skullfang and Nattapong Photnophrat to address this urgently. Wachirwit Thanoup, currently in 3rd place, is considered to have strong medal prospects, with a substantial points gap ahead of trailing competitors, and should secure at least a bronze medal if he maintains his current performance level.
