Shock for travelers! Thai Airways increases fuel surcharge for Japan flights by up to 3,213 baht per trip starting May 1st
Thai Airways is raising fuel surcharges on Japan routes by up to 3,213 baht per ticket from May 1st due to rising global aviation fuel costs.
Thai Airways Public Company Limited has announced an adjustment to fuel surcharge rates for international airfare tickets to reflect the volatile global aviation fuel market, which has risen significantly higher than anticipated. The airline is seeking approval from aviation regulatory authorities to implement the new rates, effective for all tickets issued from May 1st, 2026 onwards. For routes connecting major Japanese cities—Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka, and Sapporo—with Suvarnabhumi Airport, the new fuel surcharge rates per trip are as follows: 1. Royal First Class: increased from 90 USD (3,213 baht) to 170 USD (6,200 baht); 2. Royal Silk Business Class: increased from 90 USD (3,213 baht) to 170 USD (6,200 baht); 3. Economy Class: increased from 85 USD (3,035 baht) to 140 USD (5,100 baht). Tickets issued on or before April 30th, 2026 will continue to use the existing rates. The fuel surcharge is denominated in US dollars, with the actual baht amount determined by the exchange rate on the date of ticket issuance.
