Max Verstappen posted a message after being forced to withdraw from the Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance racing championship due to an engine failure while leading in first place. The four-time Formula One world champion used his break from F1 racing to compete in the event for Verstappen Racing in a Mercedes-AMG GT3 numbered 3. However, while he was leading during the final stretch with less than four hours remaining, an unexpected problem occurred when his car suffered a driveshaft failure, forcing him and his team out of the race just as the championship was within reach. The victory instead went to another Mercedes-AMG GT3 entry numbered 80. Following the race, Verstappen posted a tweet saying: "Very unlucky and a frustrating end to the race, but these things can happen. I still enjoyed the experience racing with Jules, Luzzi, and Dani. Thank you to the team and everyone for the support."
