No Escape: Traffic Police Arrest Offenders in Safe Roads Vibhavadi Campaign—One Hit-and-Run Case, Another Involves Three Teenagers Street Racing
Traffic police arrested a hit-and-run suspect in Bangkok and three teenagers involved in an illegal street race on Vibhavadi Road that resulted in one death, as part of the "Safe Roads Vibhavadi" campaign in May 2025.
On May 8, 2025, traffic police led by Pol. Lt. Gen. Damrong Swanggam, Deputy Commander Pol. Col. Nattapong Chuedech, and Deputy Chief Pol. Col. Seksarn Chumchaem arrested suspects under the "Safe Roads Vibhavadi" project across two cases.
In the first case, one suspect was arrested with a motorcycle after evading a traffic checkpoint and ignoring police orders to stop, resulting in a collision with Police Sergeant Major Watchrapong Senrapong on April 2, 2025, at the Lat Phrao intersection in Bangkok's Chatuchak District. The suspect was charged with reckless driving endangering others, and faced multiple violations including not wearing a safety helmet and running red lights. The court sentenced him to two months imprisonment, a 2,500-baht fine, two years suspended sentence with one-year probation, 12 hours of community service, and a six-month license suspension.
The second case involved arresting three teenagers who, on February 26, 2025, organized an illegal street race on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road between Don Mueang Airport and Vibhavadi Soi 50, driving at high speeds without helmets and with obscured license plates. One racer in their group died in an accident during the event. Following CCTV and witness investigations, all three suspects were identified and apprehended. They confessed to all charges. The Don Mueang District Court sentenced each to one month imprisonment, 10,000-baht fines, one-year suspended sentences with one-year probation, 24 hours of community service, six-month license suspensions, and 15-day electronic monitoring ankle bracelets with curfews from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
