Crafty Foreign National Steals iPhone 17 from Barista in Thonglor Using Clever Scheme

A Mongolian con artist duped a Thonglor barista into lending her iPhone 17 on April 18, then fled with the device and skipped a meal bill; he was previously arrested in 2024 but remains in Thailand on an expired visa.

2 May Khaosod

At 12:30 p.m. on May 2, 2025, Ms. Parichat, 27, a barista, filed a complaint with the Facebook community page "Sai Haem Tong Rod" (Thai Silk Must Survive) seeking help after being duped by a foreign con artist who tricked her into lending her iPhone 17 and skipped out on a meal bill, causing tens of thousands of baht in damages. The "borrow then flee" tactic occurred in the Thonglor neighborhood.

Ms. Parichat recounted that the incident happened on April 18 at a restaurant in Thonglor. A light-skinned Asian male foreigner arrived at 12:20 p.m., ordered food normally like any other customer, and stayed until nearly 3:00 p.m. At 3:10 p.m., the man approached her at the counter claiming he had forgotten his phone and asked to borrow hers to call a friend. Trusting him since he appeared to be a regular who had been sitting in the shop for hours, she agreed.

The scammer pretended to make a call and returned the phone initially. Shortly after, another call came through, so he requested to borrow it again. This time, he wandered around the shop looking for an opportunity. When she wasn't paying attention, he bolted out the back door and disappeared with the iPhone 17, leaving behind an unpaid food bill of 1,463 baht.

After the incident, the victim filed a report at Thonglor Police Station with CCTV footage evidence. Investigators discovered the perpetrator is a Mongolian male approximately 40 years old with a criminal history including:

Previous theft cases: Multiple incidents across Bangkok Prior arrest: Apprehended by Immigration Police and Huai Khwang Police on June 9, 2024 Visa overstay: Records show he has been overstaying for more than 2 years, making him an illegal resident

Ms. Parichat expressed frustration, saying that when she searched online, she found news reports that he had been arrested in mid-2024. She questioned why he was released and able to commit the same crime again, and how Thai law could do nothing about someone with an expired 2-year-old visa.

Nirun Keakhaew, co-founder of the Sai Haem Tong Rod Facebook page, stated this is a serious social threat because the criminal shows no fear of Thai law. He announced they would contact the commander of Thonglor Police Station to expedite the investigation and arrest for quick prosecution.

Additionally, they will request the Immigration Bureau investigate why a person with an expired visa and pending charges remains in the country, calling for his deportation and blacklisting to prevent future harm to Thai citizens. The community has also warned the public and business owners not to trust strangers requesting to borrow valuable items, even if they appear to be regular customers.

Beginnings and Inspiration: From Illness to Healing with Heart

Somolwan shares that her inspiration came directly from personal experience. She faced severe accumulated stress from work, resulting in physical exhaustion, tight tendons, and lost flexibility from head to toe. This led her to explore and experience spa services at various locations, ultimately developing a profound love and passion for the business. However, when she first opened her business, she discovered it was far from easy.

"The beginning lacked preparation in every aspect—location, venue, and personnel were all inadequate," she reflects. "Yet the word 'discouragement' was never part of my vocabulary, because true failure only comes with closing the business. I devoted all my physical and mental energy to nurture this venture like perfecting a recipe without flaw. These very challenges became the driving force to overcome every obstacle, eventually becoming the respected spa it is today."

Standards and Quality Certification: Utmost Pride

Jasmine Spa holds important spa business certifications confirming high-quality, reliable service and commitment to international standards, including:

Viral: Pregnant Mother Expecting Twins Flaunts Massive Belly, Starkly Different from First Twin Pregnancy, Video Hits 22 Million Views

Mexican mother's second twin pregnancy resulted in a dramatically larger belly than her first, with the viral TikTok video garnering over 22 million views and sparking speculation online.

2 May Khaosod

On May 2, a Mexican mother's TikTok video went viral worldwide when she showed her dramatically enlarged belly during her second twin pregnancy, leaving netizens shocked and some making humorous comments like "her husband should apologize."

Edith, a young mother, revealed that she previously gave birth to twin girls in 2023 before becoming pregnant again with twins in less than a year. The stark difference was the noticeably larger belly size compared to her first pregnancy. She reflected, "When I look back at this video, I still can't believe I made it through that," with the clip exceeding 22 million views.

She offered encouragement to other expectant mothers, saying "Every pregnancy is different, and all your feelings matter."

Why do some twin pregnancies result in unusually large bellies?

Online commenters flooded the post with reactions like "Is there a golf course in there?" "Will the baby come out two years old?" and "Looks like there are five people inside!"

Pregnancy experts explain that abnormally large belly size can result from multiple factors such as excess amniotic fluid, larger babies, or stretched abdominal muscles from previous pregnancies.

The mother revealed she delivered twins prematurely both times—four weeks early the first time and five weeks early the second time, which is common in twin pregnancies. Despite minimal stretch marks, she acknowledged her belly didn't return to normal, even with five weekly exercise sessions. She is planning cosmetic surgery to address excess skin.

In related news, an American mother delivered a 5.9 kilogram baby boy, remarkable compared to infants born on the same day.

2 May Khaosod

The Anti-Corruption and Misconduct Court accepted a case on May 1 against Supha Piyajitti, former NACC board member and former Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Sadit Rangkasiri, former Revenue Department Director-General, and Suttichai Sangkhamon, former Region 3 Tax Official. The three defendants are accused of neglecting their duties by failing to appeal a central tax court judgment in a case involving share trading of Shinecorp Corporation by Phan Thongtaem and Phinthongta Shinwat, causing the state to lose approximately 17.9 billion baht in tax revenue.

Defendant two is in custody at Klong Prem Central Prison under case number 96/2564, while defendant one is under the jurisdiction of the Anti-Corruption Court Region 1. The court proceeded with video conference proceedings connecting the central court with Klong Prem Prison.

Before proceedings began, the court inquired about legal representation for defendants two and three, who stated they had not yet retained lawyers but intended to defend themselves and would appoint counsel later. Defendant one requested that the court issue a letter to the Anti-Corruption Court Region 1 to bring him for testimony.

Since defendants two and three lacked legal representation and defendant one was absent, the court postponed the examination of all three defendants to June 30, 2569, at 09:30 a.m. Defendant one will be summoned to appear, while defendants two and three remain detained unless bail is posted. Suttichai was granted bail of 800,000 baht and prohibited from leaving the kingdom without court permission.

Thailand's government revenue collection in the first half of fiscal 2569 exceeded its target by 7.4 billion baht, reaching 1.24 trillion baht with a 3.7% year-on-year increase driven by improved state enterprise dividends and higher tax re

2 May Khaosod

The Finance Ministry has revealed that net government revenue collection during the first half of fiscal year 2569 (October 2568 to March 2569) totaled 1,243,788 million baht, exceeding the budgeted estimate by 7,472 million baht—0.6% above target—and surpassing the same period last year by 44,138 million baht, a 3.7% increase.

The revenue growth stems from three main sources: First, carried-over revenue from the previous year and dividend payments exceeded forecasts due to improved performance by certain state enterprises. State enterprises remitted 96,192 million baht in revenue, up 17,138 million baht (21.7%) from the previous year and 12,347 million baht above target (0.7% over). Other agencies contributed 98,931 million baht, up 4,090 million baht (4.3%) year-on-year and exceeding their target by 12,984 million baht (15.1%).

Second, the government's bond sales surplus from deficit-financing borrowing of 646,129 million baht increased by 17,376 million baht (2.8%) compared to last year.

Third, value-added tax collection across three revenue departments—the Revenue Department, Excise Department, and Customs Department—totaled 1,334,526 million baht, up 45,948 million baht (3.6%) from the previous year and exceeding the target by 8,736 million baht (0.7%). The Revenue Department collected 992,095 million baht (up 2.7%, 0.8% above target), the Excise Department collected 285,817 million baht (up 7.9%, 2.0% above target), and the Customs Department collected 56,614 million baht (down 1.3%, 7.2% below target). Tax refunds by the Revenue Department reached 224,789 million baht, exceeding forecasts by 23,674 million baht (11.8% higher) due to accelerated corporate income tax refund processing to improve business liquidity.

Regarding fiscal position, government revenue deposits totaled 1,242,578 million baht in the first half, up 49,529 million baht (4.2%) year-on-year, while budget expenditures reached 2,282,548 million baht, up 168,493 million baht (8%) from the previous period. This resulted in cash reserves of 240,647 million baht as of March 2569, representing an increase of 25,281 million baht (11.7%) compared to the same period last year.
