Meteorological Department Issues Alert 6: Volatile Weather, Heavy Rainfall, and Strong Winds Expected
Thailand's Meteorological Department has issued its sixth weather alert warning of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms affecting much of the country through May 10, with particular intensity expected in southern regions. The department cautions residents to avoid outdoor activities and take precautions against potential flash floods and landslides caused by accumulated rainfall. Farmers are advised to reinforce crops and prepare for potential damage during this volatile weather period.
On May 8, 2569, the Thai Meteorological Department issued alert number 6 (55/2569) regarding volatile weather conditions affecting Thailand through May 10, 2569. The northern, northeastern, eastern, and central regions, along with Bangkok and surrounding areas, will experience increased thunderstorms with strong wind gusts and heavy rainfall in some locations.
Following this period, temperatures are expected to cool due to a high-pressure system and cold air mass from China moving to cover the northeastern region and South China Sea. Southern winds and southeasterly winds will carry moisture from the Gulf of Thailand and South China Sea into the upper Thai region. Easterly winds affecting the southern region and Gulf of Thailand will intensify, bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall to some areas in the south.
Residents are urged to exercise caution against thunderstorms and strong winds by avoiding open areas beneath large trees, buildings, and weak advertising signs. Additional precautions should be taken regarding heavy rainfall and accumulated water, which may cause flash flooding and landslides.
Farmers should reinforce fruit trees and prepare to protect crops from potential damage, as well as maintain their health during this period of changing weather conditions.
The public is encouraged to monitor updates from the Meteorological Department via its website at http://www.tmd.go.th or by calling 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours daily. The next alert will be issued on May 8, 2569 at 5:00 PM.
