Don't Try This! Chinese Youth Viral Challenge of Hugging Electric Poles While Sitting Ends with People Getting Stuck
A dangerous Chinese viral challenge involving hugging electric poles while seated has left multiple participants dangerously stuck, with one woman from Jiangsu Province requiring police rescue after her legs went numb from the tight grip.
A dangerous viral challenge circulating on Chinese social media involves sitting down and tightly wrapping both legs around an electric pole, then attempting to escape without assistance. While it seems easy in theory, the challenge has proven difficult in practice and has attracted numerous participants, many of whom have become dangerously stuck.
One young woman named Xiaosong from Jiangsu Province attempted the challenge while out for a walk. She initially thought there would be no problem, but when she actually tried it, she found both her legs locked tightly with her lower body unable to move. The harder she struggled to free herself, the tighter the grip became, causing her knees and ankles to ache and her legs to go numb. She eventually had to call police for help. When officers arrived, they calmed her down and carefully adjusted her position until she could escape, but her legs remained numb and stiff from prolonged pressure, leaving her temporarily unable to stand or walk.
Meanwhile, another man who attempted the challenge in the middle of the night became stuck for over 15 minutes before requiring help from a food delivery worker to break free.
These incidents have prompted warnings from authorities and concerned parties that blindly following viral challenges without proper caution can pose serious hidden dangers.
