Abhisit Launches 'Monitor the State' Platform, Pioneering AI Use to Detect Government Project Corruption with 4.2 Billion Baht Budget

Former Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva launched an AI monitoring platform to investigate potential corruption in Thai government projects worth 4.2 billion baht, identifying over 1,200 initiatives with high corruption risks and uncl

1d ago Khaosod

On May 25, 2569 at 2 p.m., Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and deputy leader Kaladee Liaoipairojn launched the 'Monitor the State' platform, an AI-based system designed to monitor and investigate government operations. The platform aims to make public sector data more accessible, enhance transparency standards—particularly in procurement—and enable public participation in oversight while supporting economic benefits.

Abhisit stated that the Democrat Party is ready to use the 'Monitor the State' platform, currently for internal party use, to track government procurement. The platform analyzes data from government project groups using artificial intelligence. The initial focus examined AI-related government projects, identifying 1,276 projects worth 4.271 billion baht. Many projects have failed to deliver benefits, raising concerns about potential corruption and the lack of a clear government AI strategy.

Government agencies have claimed AI projects help citizens access information, despite the fact that citizens already have access to such data. Upon examining project terms of reference and details, the platform found high corruption risks and projects failing to meet OECD standards—standards the government aims to comply with within two years to gain OECD membership.

"Within the 4.2 billion baht budget, three private companies are involved in procurement," Abhisit said. "We will examine whether these companies have connections to political figures or have made donations to any political party."

Examples include the AI skills enhancement project for Thai people, known as 'AI Passport,' which carries high corruption risk. The opposition will use these tools to monitor AI and other project procurement going forward.

Abhisit noted investigations will cover the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation and the Digital Economy Ministry. Many projects currently under review employ specialized procurement methods, particularly at the Higher Education and Education Ministries, which have begun experiencing problems, with ministers suspending projects. The party is investigating why procurement methods are being modified.

The party leader invited citizens with information about irregularities or misconduct in projects to report to the party for investigation via the platform. Once the system stabilizes, it will be opened for public access.

Abhisit urged the government—which recently met with the private sector with the Prime Minister's support for using AI to prevent corruption—to avoid expensive projects. Instead, he called on the government to disclose data, allowing citizens to conduct joint oversight to meet OECD standards and enhance government transparency.

"If serious corruption is found during investigations," he stated, "it will be referred for further action."

Digital Minister Chaiychanok Dismisses Meta's AI Detection Claims in Obscene Livestream Case

Thailand's Digital Minister rejected Meta's claims that AI couldn't detect obscene livestreams, saying the platform's explanation about image manipulation and account switching is implausible given content appeared within seconds. New regul

1d ago Khaosod

On May 25, 2569, Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaiychanok Chidchob held a press conference following a meeting with Clara Go, Director of Public Policy for Central Southeast Asia & ASEAN at Meta, and relevant government agencies regarding efforts to prevent and prosecute obscene livestreaming on social media. The minister stated that his ministry and associated agencies have been actively working on the issue since Saturday, with today's meeting serving as another round of discussions with platform representatives.

Chaiychanok announced plans to amend ministerial regulations to expand platform accountability. Previously, platforms had 24 hours to suspend illegal accounts and were not held responsible for content if they complied. Going forward, platforms will face joint liability if negligence is found. The regulations will be tailored to specific content types and will expand the horse account law to cover cases where platforms fail to exercise due care in preventing related violations.

Regarding Meta's actions, the minister noted that five accounts have been removed and content has been fed into the platform's AI system to detect and prevent similar content from spreading. However, Chaiychanok dismissed Meta's claim that AI could not detect the obscene livestream. The account allegedly used AI switching and image manipulation techniques—such as superimposing images of people sitting and conversing, or applying masks—to evade detection. The minister stated this explanation is unconvincing, saying it's implausible that an algorithm cannot detect content that appears within seconds.

"It doesn't make sense to say the algorithm couldn't detect content that appeared in just a few seconds," Chaiychanok remarked. "This shows Meta understands our seriousness. We will await concrete solutions from Meta at the global level."

When asked if Facebook cannot ultimately be held responsible, Chaiychanok acknowledged there are loopholes, specifically the 24-hour window provided for platforms to suspend accounts. However, he noted other criteria exist that could be used to prosecute the platform.

Social Media Uproar Over Indonesian Children's Engagement Party Video Sparks Debate on Appropriateness

An Indonesian engagement party for toddlers went viral on TikTok with 5.9 million views, sparking divided online debate over whether such wedding-style ceremonies are appropriate for young children.

1d ago Khaosod

An engagement-themed celebration thrown by Indonesian parents for their toddlers has become a hot topic online after being widely shared and discussed across multiple countries on social media. Malaysian media outlet Kosmo! shared the event and highlighted heavy criticism about the appropriateness of arranging such a wedding-style ceremony for small children.

A video uploaded to TikTok by user @adellliiyyaaaa on May 18 garnered massive attention, accumulating 5.9 million views in a short time. The clip showcases an event styled like an engagement ceremony, with a procession of attendees walking down the street and formal stage decorations. The on-screen caption reads "Playing as the groom and bride's family (Alena Arthane)," apparently the names of the two children featured in the themed event.

The video shows the children and their parents standing before a decorated backdrop with the children's names displayed, styled to resemble a couple. It also captures a gift exchange between the parents. Another clip shared via the @jakarta.fess TikTok account shows the event held before an audience, with a family photo taken as a memento.

Online reactions remain divided. Some question the appropriateness of the event and express concerns about the children's future, while others view it as amusing viral content. One TikTok user commented: "They may not have been born for each other. Soulmates are God's decision, not something humans can determine." Another questioned: "What if they grow up and don't want to be together because they like other people?"

Others found humor in the situation, with one user joking: "My parents should have done this so I wouldn't be confused about choosing a partner now."

Suchat Demands Seven Days to Verify Black-Chin Tilapia Data, Insists Evidence Must Be Clear Before Prosecution

Minister Suchat Chomklin requested seven days to verify data on the destructive black-chin tilapia outbreak before pursuing prosecution, stating evidence must be clear and conclusive. The invasive species, imported from Ghana in 2006, has s

1d ago Khaosod

On May 25, 2025, at Parliament during a Senate session chaired by Senate President Mongkol Surasatjya, Senator Thawarit Manichaya raised an urgent question to Suchat Chomklin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, about progress in investigating and prosecuting those responsible for damages caused by the black-chin tilapia outbreak throughout Thailand.

Senator Thawarit, representing Samut Songkhram Province—the origin point of the outbreak—explained that the outbreak began in 2006 when the Biodiversity and Biosafety Committee (IBC) of the Department of Fisheries authorized a company to import black-chin tilapia from Ghana. The infestation has since spread to Bueng Makkasan in Bangkok, becoming a national priority issue.

Thawarit noted that despite efforts to address the problem, identifying those responsible has been slow, with the outbreak expanding to 19 coastal provinces along the Gulf of Thailand. No government agency has yet filed charges against those who initiated the crisis. Only in early 2025 did residents of Samut Songkhram and Phetchaburi provinces organize a class-action lawsuit against the importing company.

Research from Thammasat University found that damage to farmers and local fisheries in just Praek Nam Daeng subdistrict alone reaches 131.96 million baht annually.

Senator Thawarit asked the minister about the investigation status under the Environmental Quality Promotion and Conservation Act B.E. 2535, Section 97, whether a timeline has been set, and what remedial and environmental restoration measures are planned. He emphasized that since government agencies themselves have documented evidence of ecological damage since August 2024, the public deserves to know who bears responsibility and who failed to prevent the widespread outbreak.

Minister Suchat acknowledged the timeline presented was accurate. Although he recently took office, he recalled that previous governments had allocated central budget funds to the Agriculture Ministry multiple times to address this issue. He identified the Department of Fisheries as the primary agency holding crucial data, since it approved the original import authorization.

Thai Volleyball Federation Hopes Three Key Players Make Comeback for Second Week of VNL 2026

Thai women's volleyball federation expects three injured key players to miss the first week of the 2026 Nations League starting June 3 in China, with hopes they'll return by the second week pending medical assessments.

1d ago Khaosod

Sompon Chai-bangyaeng, president of the Volleyball Association of Thailand, confirmed that three key players will definitely miss the first week of the 2026 Nations League, though there is hope they may return for the second week.

Thai women's national volleyball team is in training camp preparing for the 2026 Nations League (VNL2026) first round, with their opening match against Serbia scheduled for June 3 at 2:00 PM in Nanjing, China.

Sompon Chai-bangyaeng stated that after initially calling in 30 athletes for the national team camp, the squad has been reduced to approximately 20 players based on government-supported quotas and Asian Games roster requirements. The federation discussed with coaching staff the need for 1-2 reserve players to provide backup during the lengthy Nations League competition, bringing the total to 22 players, with approximately 15-16 expected to travel for the first week in China.

"Beyond the available players, we must manage key athletes recovering from league injuries," Sompon explained. "Three players who definitely cannot play in the first week are Chatchuchon Moksom (Bumbim), Hatthaya Baruangsuk (Taey), and Wipawee Sritong (Song). We're having the medical and sports science teams conduct thorough evaluations, and they should be ready to rejoin the team in the second or third week depending on each player's physical condition."

Malaysia Files Complaint Against Three Thai Officials—Dr. Sihasak Hits Back, Demands ISTAF Answer Why This Referee Was Used

Malaysia's Sepak Takraw Association filed a complaint with ISTAF after three Thai officials entered the court during the world championship final in May, while Dr. Sihasak countered that they were invited VIP guests and questioned why a sin

1d ago Khaosod

The Malaysian Sepak Takraw Association has lodged a formal complaint with the International Sepak Takraw Federation (ISTAF) against the Thai national team following the world championship final held in Malaysia on May 23. The complaint states that during disruptions caused by protests against a referee's decision in the third match, three Thai officials—Thana Chaiyaprasit (president of the Thai Sepak Takraw Association), Dr. Sihasak Arirachakanya (secretary-general), and Phairojn Acharungrojn (former team manager)—who were not on the official roster entered the court and gathered at the Thai team's bench during competition. Malaysia's Dato Abdullah Saleh, secretary-general of the Malaysian Sepak Takraw Association, expressed deep disappointment that these high-ranking officials and sports leaders failed to restore calm or encourage Thai athletes to return and finish the match according to regulations. He stressed that if unhappy with a decision, teams should use ISTAF's formal protest procedures rather than walking out. The incident was broadcast live globally to millions of viewers, damaging the sport's image and the host nation's investment and reputation. ISTAF is being asked to formally investigate this behavior.

Regarding the complaint, Dr. Sihasak stated that Thailand has received the letter and will immediately respond. He noted that both he and Thana were VIP guests invited by the federation to attend, and they will clarify that the final was not a walkout or match abandonment—the Thai team conceded because they were in a state where they could not continue competing due to the referee's injustice.

"In the final match, the federation assigned four interchangeable referees. It's not wrong to use Referee A and B in one game and Referee C in another, but this is a championship final with four referees. Why was there a need for one referee to officiate two games? We learned that the referee roster was predetermined and this specific referee was assigned by the federation from the start," Dr. Sihasak stated.

Kraiwut Fires Back at Natthapon's Accusations, Insists All Parties Play by Same Rules

A Bhumjaithai MP rejected accusations that his party dominates government as a "blue system" agent, arguing all parties operate under identical constitutional rules regardless of their political color.

1d ago Khaosod

On May 25, 2025, at Parliament, Kraiwut Prusilnananthakul, a member of parliament from Ang Thong representing Bhumjaithai Party and chairman of the government coalition coordination committee, responded to remarks by Natthapon Reungpanyawutthi, Pheu Thai Party's list-based MP and party leader, who had suggested the country is being dominated by a 'blue system' with Bhumjaithai serving as its agent.

Kraiwut rejected the characterization as excessive, arguing that all parties operate under the same rules and constitution. He pointed out that Bhumjaithai did not author the current constitution, and that parties of all colors—orange, red, and green—find themselves in identical circumstances. He criticized the creation of such political rhetoric as inaccurate and called for its cessation.

Kraiwut noted that when certain parties previously won elections as the top vote-getter under this same constitution, no one accused them of domination by any particular color. He firmly denied any takeover and stressed that Bhumjaithai formed the government through electoral success while operating within established democratic frameworks, just like other parties.

When asked whether these accusations could fuel future conflicts, Kraiwut emphasized the need for patience in politics and urged that public interest and national welfare be prioritized over political rhetoric. Regarding potential difficulties in parliamentary cooperation, he expressed confidence there would be no problems, citing successful collaboration between government and opposition parties to date. He credited the opposition parties' cooperation and noted that both sides have made compromises to keep national work moving forward.
