Defense Minister General Adullyadej Boontharmacharoen has ordered the Military Council to tighten control over weapons and military equipment arsenals after weapons disappeared from storage due to corrupt officials, raising public concern. The directive was issued on May 21, 2025, following a Military Council meeting where the Minister emphasized policies on volunteer military service, defense industry development, and new soldier training, alongside weapons and equipment management. Unit commanders already maintain strict control, but the order reinforces these measures after military weapons were found in the possession of civilians outside the military. Current control procedures include daily inspections by arsenal personnel, weekly inspections by company commanders with documentation, and monthly inspections by battalion commanders, with special checks during duty transfers and individual ammunition counts. However, the Minister acknowledged that determined thieves or those with corrupt officials sometimes manage to evade detection systems.
