Bride's heartbreak: Lavish wedding dreams shattered as guests leave early before toasting ceremony
A Chinese bride's lavish wedding in Henan Province collapsed when most guests left before the toasting ceremony, with the couple blaming early meal service while the hotel cited the bride's costume change delay and guests' work obligations.
A Chinese couple faced a disappointing wedding day after investing over 40,000 yuan (around 200,000 baht) in their dream celebration at a Xinyang hotel in Henan Province on April 3, 2026. Despite booking a beautiful venue and hiring a professional photography team, the bride was devastated to find that most guests had already left by the time she changed into her formal dress to perform the traditional toasting ceremony, forcing her to cancel this important moment and leaving no commemorative photos. The bride blamed the hotel for serving meals ahead of schedule, claiming food service began at 11:52 a.m. when the ceremony wasn't scheduled to start until 11:58 a.m., and main courses were served by 12:35 p.m. while ceremonies were still ongoing.
The bride reported multiple issues throughout the planning and execution, including poor cooperation from hotel staff, incorrect lighting during rehearsals that affected the actual event, and overall coordination failures. She became severely stressed and argued with her husband during the reception.
The hotel disputed these claims, stating that the bride took 46 minutes to change costumes, causing the schedule to fall behind, and that they received no instruction to halt food service. The hotel also noted that being a regular workday, many guests needed to return to their jobs in the afternoon regardless of meal timing, and the establishment cannot be held responsible for guests leaving early.
Police and mediators were called to intervene, but both parties maintained their positions and could not reach an agreement. The mediator concluded that miscommunication and poor coordination shared responsibility between both parties and recommended proceeding through legal channels if no settlement could be reached.
