Grandsport Unveils Thailand National Volleyball Team 2026 Kit Under 'NEXT HORIZON' Concept
21 May Khaosod

Grandsport has unveiled the 2026 Thailand national volleyball team competition kit under the 'NEXT HORIZON' concept, symbolizing a journey toward new horizons and relentless progress toward more ambitious goals. The standout design feature is the 'line' pattern on the jersey, strategically arranged in multiple directions but all converging toward the same objective—representing the power, determination, and heart of Thai national athletes from diverse backgrounds united toward a common goal. The design incorporates hidden floral, earth, and water motifs beneath the line patterns within the national flag and logo, reflecting the athletes' journey through new territories and challenges.

Thiti Pruksachaum, Deputy Executive Director of Grandsport Group, revealed that the company leverages its experience outfitting Thai athletes, particularly volleyball players. The team uses Micro Lite fabric with Lightweight Performance Fabric properties—lightweight, soft to touch, excellent moisture absorption, quick-drying, and breathable—enabling athletes to move freely throughout the match. Sleeve and jersey fit have been optimized to boost player confidence.

Thiti noted that this year's team blends experienced international-level athletes with emerging talents from Thailand League volleyball. The federation has even inducted several promising young players. He expressed optimism that the Thai women's volleyball team will deliver an exciting and competitive performance at the 2026 Women's Nations League volleyball championship from June 3 to July 27.

The 2026 national volleyball team jersey comes in four colors: Red Horizon (symbolizing power and forward momentum with infrared red lines and hidden floral patterns), Blue Horizon (representing stability and confidence with light blue flowing lines), White Horizon (denoting new beginnings with sleek black-line design), and Black Horizon (conveying strength with golden accents). The women's jersey retails for 850 baht (sizes S-3XL), while the men's jersey costs 850 baht (S-4XL) and 950 baht (5XL). Sales begin May 21, 2025, at all Grandsport Shop locations and online outlets.

NAKHON RATCHASIMA — A Myanmar national was found seriously injured with a stab wound beside a railway line near Jira railway station in northeastern Thailand, police said.

Police in Nakhon Ratchasima province said they were alerted on the evening of May 20 to a stabbing near the railway tracks on Jira Road in Muang district.

Officers led by Pol. Col. Sirichai Srichaipanya, superintendent of Muang Nakhon Ratchasima Police Station, arrived at the scene with rescue workers and found a seriously injured man on the ground clutching a bag.

The victim, identified as 35-year-old Myanmar national Aung Kyaw Soe, had suffered a serious stab wound to the right side of his chest, authorities said.

Rescue workers administered first aid before taking him to Maharaj Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital for treatment.

Police said clothing and alcohol bottles were found at the scene, but no knife or suspect was located. Investigators believe the attacker may not have fled far and are searching for the person responsible.

Local residents said the area is used as an informal rubbish dumping site, where discarded sofas and other items attract homeless people seeking shelter.

One resident said they heard cries for help coming from near a rubbish pile beside an old sofa. After crossing the road to investigate, they found the injured man on the ground and contacted police and emergency responders.

The witness said they did not see the attacker and only found the victim at the scene.

Tawee Sodsong Closes Chapter on 'Debt Prison' as Parliament Approves Repeal of Criminal Penalties for Bounced Checks

Parliament has approved consideration of a bill to repeal the 1991 Dishonored Checks Act, which currently criminalizes bounced checks and has been criticized for imprisoning people unable to pay debts in violation of Thailand's constitution

Tawee Sodsong Closes Chapter on 'Debt Prison' as Parliament Approves Repeal of Criminal Penalties for Bounced Checks
21 May Khaosod

On May 21, 2025, Deputy Police General Tawee Sodsong, list MP and leader of the Prachathai Party, announced that Parliament approved on May 20 the consideration of a bill to repeal the Dishonored Checks Act of 1991, establishing an ad hoc committee in its first reading. The law had been pending consideration before the previous parliament was dissolved.

As former Justice Minister, Tawee had proposed the repeal to the Cabinet, which then presented it to Parliament, viewing it as establishing a justice system consistent with Thailand's Constitution, international principles, and economic reality. The core argument is that the 1991 law inappropriately criminalizes civil payment defaults, violating Article 77 of the Constitution and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which Thailand ratified. The ICCPR explicitly prohibits imprisoning individuals solely for inability to pay contractual debts.

Additionally, the Debt Collection Act of 2015 already penalizes creditors who coerce debtors into writing bad checks, making the 1991 law redundant. Criminologists classify bounced check offenses as mala prohibita (crimes because law forbids them) rather than mala in se (inherently evil crimes), and the current law fails to distinguish between struggling business operators and intentional fraudsters, unfairly criminalizing honest entrepreneurs facing temporary cash flow problems.

The bill includes a transitional provision allowing the Department of Corrections to immediately release inmates convicted solely of bounced check offenses without awaiting court orders, with notification to courts.

Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Supattanapong Punmeechaiya will attend the 2025 APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade (APEC MRT) meeting hosted by the People's Republic of China in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, from May 22-23 under the theme "Building an Asia-Pacific Community to Prosper Together."

Supattanapong stated that the meeting will drive three concrete outcomes: "Openness" to promote transparent, predictable, and inclusive trade and economic systems at both regional and multilateral levels; "Innovation" to establish trade and investment cooperation mechanisms powered by modern technology; and "Cooperation" to strengthen collaboration among member economies in addressing shared economic challenges sustainably.

The 2025 meeting represents a crucial opportunity for Thailand to showcase its vision and exchange perspectives on open, sustainable trade cooperation and digital economic transformation under the National AI Strategy, while supporting cross-border data flows. Discussions will cover environmentally friendly trade, AI governance frameworks, and capacity-building for developing economies and MSMEs.

Thailand prioritizes trade facilitation, digital transition, sustainable commerce, and supply chain resilience.

APEC comprises 21 economies, and in 2024, Thailand's trade with APEC members reached $494.6 billion, representing 72.24% of Thailand's total trade, with exports of $237.6 billion and imports of $257.1 billion.
