Australian International Criminal Arrested in Khon Kaen Safe House
Australian sex offender Richard was arrested in a Khon Kaen safe house after fleeing to Thailand to escape prosecution, with Thai and Australian authorities coordinating his capture and planned extradition.
Region 4 Police Division collaborated with crime suppression units to arrest "Richard," an Australian international fugitive hiding in Khon Kaen, who has a shocking criminal history including child sexual abuse, possession of child exploitation material, and drug trafficking. April 28, 2025 - Police Commander Pairach Pukcharoen led Region 4 investigators alongside Khon Kaen Police, crime suppression officers, and tourism police in a coordinated operation to search a luxury residence in central Khon Kaen, which was being used as a safe house for the fugitive wanted by Australian authorities.
Officers successfully apprehended Mr. Richard, an Australian national, while he was resting inside the residence. This arrest resulted from close coordination between the Australian Federal Police (AFP) Bangkok office and Thailand's Immigration Bureau.
Richard has an extensive and disturbing criminal record, appearing on Australia's Sex Offender Register. His criminal history includes: • Sexual assault and indecent acts against children (primary conviction) • Possession of child sexual abuse material • Assault and drug distribution
The danger posed by Richard prompted Queensland Police to issue an immediate arrest warrant, and the Australian Federation had cancelled his passport to prevent travel. However, he managed to evade authorities and illegally enter Thailand, using Khon Kaen as an intended permanent hiding place.
Region 4 Police Commander emphasized the "Zero Tolerance" policy toward international criminals. This operation aligns with the National Police Office's strict directive to eliminate foreign criminals seeking Thailand as a safe haven, particularly those involved in child exploitation and human trafficking—threats recognized as international-level crimes.
Authorities are currently holding Richard in custody for legal proceedings before coordinating his extradition back to Australia to serve his sentence, bringing an end to his cross-border fugitive status.
