The Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) committee, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Piphatthanakij Rattakij, has approved the establishment of an additional 'Smart Logistics' special economic promotion zone in Chachoengsao province. The project is expected to attract approximately 1.35 billion baht in investment and create around 350 jobs.
Located near kilometer 72 of Sukhumvit Road in Bang Pakong District, Chachoengsao, the 29-rai zone will support target industries including aviation and logistics. The smart logistics service model will incorporate cutting-edge technology and innovation to function as a modern international distribution center (IDC) serving international import-export customers requiring high precision.
The facility will employ advanced technologies including 5G connectivity, GPS tracking systems, AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) robots, ASRS (Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems) intelligent shelving, and AI-powered data processing. The zone will also facilitate knowledge transfer from businesses to develop advanced smart logistics services.
The EEC also reviewed a feasibility study on expanding to Prachuap Buri province as an additional Eastern Economic Corridor development zone. The province demonstrates advantages including strategic location, alignment with target industry supply chains, presence of 25% manufacturing facilities in target sectors, and potential for integrated medical industry development. Infrastructure including road connections to Bangkok, available industrial land, and sufficient water and labor resources support future investment.
Policy recommendations for the urgent 1-2 year timeframe include addressing environmental challenges through integrated waste-to-energy power plants, wastewater management, and land use planning to balance industrial and agricultural development.
The committee approved in principle the designation of Prachuap Buri province as an additional EEC development area, requesting the EEC incorporate feedback and recommendations for detailed revision before resubmitting to the cabinet for consideration.
