75-Year-Old Driver Loses Control, Crashes Into Laundromat and Struck by Electrical Control Box; Rescue Efforts Unsuccessful
A 75-year-old driver died after his SUV lost control, struck a motorcycle, and crashed into a laundromat on Saeng Chuto Road in Kanchanaburi, pinning him under an electrical box. Rescuers were unable to revive him despite CPR efforts.
A 75-year-old man died in a tragic accident on May 9, 2025, after his vehicle lost control, struck a motorcycle, and crashed into an automated laundromat on Saeng Chuto Road opposite Kanchanaburi Vocational College. Volunteer rescuers from the Phitukkan Foundation arrived to find the vehicle locked from inside. After spending considerable time trying to open the doors, they managed to extract the driver, who was pinned under an electrical control box against the driver's seat.
Initial examination revealed severe head lacerations, a broken neck, and no pulse. Rescuers immediately began CPR for approximately 10 minutes, but without success. The victim, identified as Mr. Ban (surname withheld), 75 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Security camera footage showed the SUV leaving a hotel at high speed before clipping a motorcycle traveling in the opposite direction, causing it to overturn on a center median. The vehicle then lost control, mounted the sidewalk, struck an electrical control box, and crashed forcefully into the laundromat. No laundromat staff were injured, though the young woman riding the motorcycle sustained minor injuries.
According to the victim's family, he had visited his wife at her workplace at a hotel in downtown Kanchanaburi before driving out to run an errand. The cause of the accident remains unclear.
Police initially suspect that the driver may have accidentally pressed the accelerator too hard when leaving the hotel, causing him to lose control, or that he may have experienced a medical episode that caused him to collide with the motorcycle and crash. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the actual cause of death before further investigation proceeds.
