Deputy Defense Minister Inspects Combat Fleet, Emphasizes Strengthening Navy's Maritime Sovereignty Defense
Deputy Defense Minister Gen. Tharapong Malaakham inspected the Royal Thai Navy's Combat Fleet in Chachoengsao Province to assess operational readiness and reinforce maritime sovereignty defense across the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea.
On May 18, 2569, Deputy Defense Minister Gen. Tharapong Malaakham, accompanied by Deputy Defense Minister Gen. Saran Petcharanon and his team, inspected the Royal Thai Navy's Combat Fleet in Sattahip District, Chachoengsao Province. The inspection aimed to assess operational readiness, identify challenges in maritime security missions, and boost morale among personnel defending national sovereignty. The visit was hosted by Admiral Kravit Chayarote, Commander of the Combat Fleet.
The Combat Fleet serves as the primary combat force of the Royal Thai Navy, comprising over 10,000 personnel and equipped with naval vessels, combat aircraft, surveillance aircraft, transport aircraft, and various helicopter types. All units are prepared to conduct operations 24 hours a day across the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea.
The Combat Fleet's mission encompasses maritime sovereignty protection, safeguarding national interests, preventing and suppressing maritime crimes, protecting and assisting fishing vessels, and search-and-rescue operations for maritime accident victims—all critical to national and public security. Sattahip is home to major command units and support facilities of the Royal Thai Navy, playing vital roles in maintaining security and protecting maritime interests.
During the inspection, the Deputy Defense Minister and his delegation visited the HTMS Phhumibhol Adulyadej and HTMS Naresuan, both high-performance frigates. The Deputy Defense Minister praised all units for their strong and dedicated work, emphasizing the importance of personnel performing their duties with sacrifice, diligence, and dedication to the common good. He called for seamless cooperation and coordination to enhance the Navy's capabilities and maintain maximum readiness in protecting national sovereignty and maritime interests.
