47 Officials Immediately Removed from Position after Failed Drug Tests in Nationwide Screening of Village Chiefs and Administrators

A nationwide drug screening of village chiefs and local administrators resulted in 47 officials testing positive and being immediately removed from their positions, out of 286,553 people tested across Thailand's 878 districts.

4h ago Khaosod

On May 26, 2025, Interior Department Director General Naruchai Kotsasiwhilaisakul announced that on May 25, the department launched a "clean house" operation to conduct drug screening of village chiefs, sub-district headmen, assistant headmen, village health volunteers, sub-district medical officers, territorial defense volunteers, and civil servants across all 878 districts nationwide. The operation aimed to demonstrate a strong commitment to drug prevention and suppression while raising the standards of local leaders to serve as trustworthy role models for the public.

Results showed that out of 286,553 officials tested, 286,506 tested negative for drugs while 47 tested positive, representing just 0.02 percent of all those screened. The director general stated that this operation is part of implementing the government's four-pillar security policy to comprehensively address the drug problem through four measures: SEAL border operations to intercept drug smuggling, suppression of drug networks and influential figures, treatment and rehabilitation of drug users, and local-level prevention using village chiefs, headmen, and community watch mechanisms.

The Department of Interior has established clear and strict guidelines for handling cases of local officials involved with drugs or testing positive, treating such conduct as dereliction of duty and behavior unbecoming of their position. District officers must conduct investigations and take decisive legal action. The procedure includes appointing an investigation committee, filing charges, temporary suspension during laboratory confirmation, and upon confirmed positive results, district officers must report to provincial governors who will order immediate removal from office.

The director general emphasized that all local officials must uphold moral and ethical standards and serve as positive examples for society to maintain public trust. The department will take strict, transparent, and uncompromising legal and disciplinary action against any officials involved in drug-related activities or conduct that damages the integrity and credibility of their positions.

Mother Files Report: Grade 6 Daughter Beaten by Middle School Seniors Over Homework Copying Dispute; Relatives Confront Family and Challenge Them to Report It

A 12-year-old girl was beaten by older female students in Udon Thani over a refused homework-copying request, with video of the assault shared online and threats issued to keep silent.

4h ago Khaosod

A 38-year-old woman (alias Ms. A) brought her 12-year-old Grade 6 daughter (alias Miss B) from a school in Chaiyawan District, Udon Thani Province, to file a police report at Chaiyawan Police Station after the girl was assaulted by a group of female students, with the incident recorded and shared on social media.

Ms. A disclosed that she only learned about the incident from her daughter yesterday. The assault occurred on the evening of May 24. The dispute began when the accused student wanted to copy a mathematics project homework from the victim's middle school cousin, but the cousin refused, angering the accused. The accused then messaged the victim's daughter on Facebook asking her to call out her older sister to "settle it."

However, the victim's cousin had a seizure and had to be hospitalized. Additionally, there was an elderly family member at home who had undergone surgery for stage 3 colon cancer just 7 days prior. The victim's daughter therefore went out to talk in good faith.

Thereafter, four individuals drove to pick up the victim's daughter from home and then assaulted her severely. The video shows two girls leading the assault while other friends filmed and distributed the clip. The victim suffered facial swelling, head swelling, headaches, and rib pain, and was unable to attend school.

Ms. A further stated that the perpetrators threatened her daughter not to tell her parents or teachers, or she would face worse consequences. The victim did not tell her mother, but a relative who encountered the clip on social media informed her. What made matters worse was that after the incident, relatives of the accused came to their home, made threatening remarks and challenged them to file a report, showing no fear of legal consequences and confidently invoking their family's status and position.

Major Rattaploichai Pensonkram, superintendent of Chaiyawan Police Station, revealed that upon preliminary examination of the clip, it appeared to resemble a consensual quarrel. However, police will take the victim to the hospital for medical examination to support the case file. Additionally, all evidence and witnesses will be collected. The case can still be settled through negotiation, but if both parties cannot reach an agreement, police will proceed with the legal process.

Scammers Swindle 71-Year-Old Out of 500,000 Baht, Flee With Cash After Leaving Him at Stationery Shop

Scammers posing as land buyers tricked a 71-year-old man into withdrawing 500,000 baht at an ATM in Yasothon, then abandoned him at a stationery shop and fled with the cash.

4h ago Khaosod

A 71-year-old man lost over 500,000 baht to scammers who abandoned him at a stationery shop after withdrawing cash, fleeing with the money intended for a fraudulent land deal. On May 26, 2569, Ms. Suphalikhit Nammuan, acting district chief of Mueang Yasothon, along with district health and Dharma Center officials, visited the victim's residence in Tambon Tadthong to investigate. Officials met with the victim's wife, Saowlakshan (surname withheld), who reported that on May 25 at approximately 9:00 AM, individuals claiming to be named Chuchat and associates contacted them about renting a house for workers. Chuchat later told the victim he was purchasing land with a woman named Phen from Tadthong but needed 500,000 baht in advance. The scammers then drove the victim to an ATM at Don Mayaang in Tadthong to withdraw the money. Afterward, they took him to a stationery shop to purchase loan documents. When the victim went inside alone to buy the contract papers, Chuchat and his associates drove off, abandoning the elderly man at the shop. The victim immediately filed a police report at Mueang Yasothon Police Station. Initial investigation suggests this is an organized scam operation rather than the drug-related scheme circulating on social media. The district health office will coordinate with the MCATT team to provide psychological support and counseling to the victim.

Slovenia's Coach Questions Benjamin Šeško's Absence from National Team While Playing for Manchester United

Slovenia's coach questions why striker Benjamin Šeško claims injury for the national team while playing regularly for Manchester United, having appeared in 32 matches this season including during periods he skipped international duty.

4h ago Khaosod

Slovenia's head coach Boštjan Cesar has questioned striker Benjamin Šeško's repeated absences from the national team while appearing fully available to play for Manchester United. Šeško has been missing from Slovenia's lineup since October 2025 and was not named in the squad for June's upcoming friendlies after Manchester United submitted medical documentation confirming the player's injury status. Nevertheless, Cesar expressed concern about how Šeško managed to play 32 matches for Manchester United this season, including games in March when he was unavailable for Slovenia's concurrent fixtures. Cesar stated: "He missed our last call-up in March, and I even wanted him to take a break from United's matches, but he came back quickly. I don't think he missed any club matches at all." Former Slovenia coach Matjaž Kek previously raised similar doubts about Šeško's national team availability, as the striker was absent during the 2026 World Cup European qualifying matches where Slovenia lost both games, ultimately missing out on a place in the final tournament.

The line between a nightmare and death is razor thin. Two siblings jolted awake as flames crept dangerously close. Exhausted from work and deep in sleep, they felt unusual heat and woke to see fire—at first disbelieving their eyes before fleeing through the blaze together. Both were burned in the escape.

At 6 p.m. on May 26, 2569, Lieutenant Colonel Rung Daodungsuk, superintendent of Mae Sot Police Station in Tak Province, received reports of a fire destroying multiple residential buildings in the Baan Huai Kahloke community, Moo 4, Tambon Mae Pa, Amphoe Mae Sot, Tak Province. Four fire trucks from Mae Sot Municipality and Mae Pa Subdistrict Administration were immediately dispatched to contain the fire, accompanied by district administrative officials.

The incident occurred in a densely populated residential area close to the Thai-Myanmar border. Both Thai citizens and numerous Myanmar laborers were startled and gathered in the streets to witness the disaster. The origin building was a single-story rental home constructed of old teak wood, completely engulfed in flames. The fire rapidly spread to neighboring houses due to strong winds.

Firefighters immediately mobilized water cannons and spent approximately 30 minutes bringing the blaze under control. Initial reports indicated two homes were destroyed. Officers found Miw, age 35, the tenant of the origin building, sitting by the roadside in tears with burns covering his face and body in multiple places. His older brother, Nai, age 40, also sustained burn injuries. Emergency responders administered first aid before transporting both men to Mae Sot Hospital, where their conditions were reported as stable.

According to questioning, Miw explained that he and his brother had just finished their daily work and fell into a deep sleep from exhaustion. Shortly after, he felt unusual heat and noticed fire in the kitchen. Initially, he thought it was a dream, but upon regaining full consciousness, he realized the fire was real and spreading rapidly into his bedroom. He quickly woke his brother, and they fled through the flames without managing to save any belongings. Police will investigate the actual cause of the fire before proceeding further.

Autopsy Results Released for "Mua" Wild Elephant in Chanthaburi: Electrocution Confirmed, Shotgun Pellets Also Found Embedded in Skin. Officials Accelerate Investigation.

May 26, 2026 — The latest development in the mysterious death case of "Phlai Kor Gaew" or "Mua," a 30-year-old male wild elephant found dead along a fruit plantation pond in Khlong Phlu subdistrict, Khao Khichakut district, Chanthaburi province. Recently, a team of veterinarians from the Sriracha Forensic Unit (Region 2) released forensic autopsy results following a thorough examination of the carcass.

Burn marks and tissue death were discovered on the forehead and trunk, caused by a high-voltage electrical short circuit that occurred approximately 3-4 days before discovery. It is believed the elephant may have accidentally made contact with electrical wires or fence lines that local residents had installed in the area.

Beyond the electrocution as the primary cause of death, the veterinary team also detected three shotgun pellets embedded in the elephant's skin across its body. Although these injuries were not the direct cause of death, they serve as critical evidence pointing to the escalating brutality of human-elephant conflict in the region's farming areas.

Chawinart Pinkaew, head of Khao Khichakut National Park, revealed that after recovering the elephant carcass and removing both tusks for preservation according to forestry department regulations, he ordered staff to bury the remains following scientific procedures to prevent disease spread. Authorities are coordinating with police and local administration to conduct another comprehensive investigation at the scene to locate evidence and prosecute those responsible for installing the electrical fence and shooting the elephant.

This incident highlights the escalating human-elephant conflict crisis in Chanthaburi, which has evolved beyond mere displacement into a battleground where weapons and electrified fences determine the fate of wildlife. As fruit farmers face devastating crop damage from wild elephants, if the government fails to implement sustainable structural solutions to this problem, more tragic deaths of wildlife at human hands may continue indefinitely.

Couple Arrested with AK47s and Over 7,000 Rounds of Ammunition Destined for Customers; Weapons Smuggled from Cambodia

A married couple was arrested in Ubon Ratchathani with five AK47 rifles and over 7,000 rounds of ammunition smuggled from Cambodia for distribution to customers in northern Thailand.

6h ago Khaosod

On May 26, Deputy Commander Burapat Buribukkdi of the Ubon Ratchathani Provincial Police (Security Division), along with Deputy Commander Sanit Chaisathit and Police Major Weeraphun Naksuk of the Decha Udom Police Station, announced the arrest of Surachet, 46, and Supansa, 39, a married couple accused of operating an international arms trafficking network. Police seized five AK47 rifles, five ammunition magazines, and 7,118 rounds of various ammunition including 6,450 rounds of 7.62mm bullets, 168 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, and 500 M60 machine gun rounds during their arrest in Decha Udom District, Ubon Ratchathani Province.

Surachet confessed that all weapons belonged to Withaya, who resides in a neighboring country and was a former cellmate at Rayong Prison. After his release in December of the previous year, Withaya hired Surachet for 15,000-20,000 baht per trip to collect weapons from an unidentified man at a gas station in Prasat District, Surin Province, then forward them to destinations in Chiang Mai and Lampang provinces using private transport companies. This was the third smuggling operation before their arrest.

Military sources in the area revealed that this weapons shipment was illegally imported from Cambodia with the intent to sell to ethnic minority groups in northern Thailand or to weapons collector enthusiasts.
