Deputy Interior Minister Denies Cover-up in Chinese Man's Weapons Cache Case, Set to Become Special Case; Scrutiny of State Officials Involvement

Thailand's Parliament questioned the government about the arrest of a Chinese national with military weapons in an apparent accident-related discovery rather than intelligence breakthrough. Deputy Interior Minister denied cover-ups while confirming intelligence gaps, announcing the case will be elevated to special status with integrated investigation across all agencies. The case has raised concerns about potential state official involvement amid similar recent incidents involving military weapons and assassinations.

5d ago Khaosod

On May 14, 2025 at 11:00 AM, Parliament held a questioning session chaired by Sompon Saramae where opposition lawmaker and Deputy Democrat Party leader Piyarut Jongtep questioned Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul regarding the arrest of Chinese national Ming Chen Sun for possessing military weapons. Deputy Interior Minister Jetsada Thaiset responded on the PM's behalf.

Piyarut stated the case was significant, noting it resulted from a traffic accident during heavy rain rather than intelligence work—when traffic police discovered the weapons-laden truck after the accident, leading to the arrest. He criticized the fragmented response from various agencies and questioned whether the government would acknowledge systemic failure in intelligence and security operations.

Piyarut highlighted three similar cases involving military weapons and assassinations, expressing concern about government or military official involvement, particularly noting a warrant issued for a navy officer in the Ming Chen Sun case. He asked whether investigators would pursue background connections and accountability for state officials who may have enabled weapons trafficking.

Deputy Interior Minister Jetsada clarified that intelligence agencies confirmed the suspect traveled across five to six countries, but found no indicators of terrorist planning or organizational backing based on international inquiries. While declining to call it a "failure," he acknowledged potential gaps in inter-agency coordination and stated the PM has directed efforts to minimize such gaps. Jetsada revealed the Justice Minister will elevate the case to special status, enabling full inter-agency integration in the investigation.

Female YouTuber Opens Up About Past Relationship with Tray Scott, Says She Finally Understands Why Love Couldn't Continue

YouTuber Petch has publicly reflected on her past relationship with content creator Tray Scott, revealing she has finally understood why they couldn't continue their once-comfortable romance. After learning about his difficult life circumstances, she expressed sympathy and emphasized that such hardships shouldn't befall anyone.

5d ago Khaosod

Female YouTuber Petch (Instagram: petchz) has caught people's attention with her latest post about a past relationship she eventually revealed was with Tray Scott. The relationship was once good and comfortable, but ultimately couldn't continue, leaving her both heartbroken and confused. Only recently, after learning about the other side of his life story, has she come to understand the reasons why. She expressed sympathy for him as a fellow human, emphasizing that such situations shouldn't happen to anyone.

In her post, she reflected: "I want to share a story from last year. We had a good relationship with someone, and I gave him my heart completely. I loved who he was, loved listening when he talked about things he cared about, loved his passion for what he enjoyed. Every moment we spent together felt comfortable—like I could just float. Being around him felt at ease, without thinking about gender, status, or anything else. When the relationship reached a point where it couldn't continue, I was devastated and quite hurt. I never understood what happened, couldn't grasp why something that had been good all along suddenly felt meaningless to him. I was filled with confusion, anger, and sadness.

But when today came, after hearing and learning many things alongside everyone else, piecing the story together, I cried without knowing how I should feel. Understanding why things turned out that way, my own pain seemed small compared to everything he's been through in his life. Behind every smile, hug, warmth, kindness, silence, coldness, cruelty, joy, or sorrow, we can never truly know what someone's background is or what they've experienced. Even though we're no longer in contact, I now feel deep sympathy for him as a fellow human being. This shouldn't happen to anyone, and I hope no one else has to go through something like this."

Dr. Joe Returns to Talat Phlu, Promotes Tourism Development; Clarifies 40-Baht BTS Fare, Reaffirms No Campaign Billboards

Gubernatorial candidate Chaivatana Sathavornvijit visited his childhood neighborhood of Talat Phlu market, proposing tourism development and improved pedestrian infrastructure for the area. He clarified his BTS fare policy as distance-based (8-45 baht) rather than a flat 40-baht rate and reaffirmed his commitment to avoiding campaign billboards in Bangkok.

5d ago Khaosod

On May 14, 2025, Chaivatana Sathavornvijit, a Thai People's Party candidate for Bangkok governor, returned to Talat Phlu market—his childhood neighborhood—to meet with vendors and community members. He revealed that his campaign includes daily field visits with a team of MPs. Today's stop in Thonburi district was particularly meaningful as the birthplace of his childhood. Chaivatana stated his intention to develop Talat Phlu into a vibrant tourist destination where residents and visitors can shop and dine, aligning with Bangkok's easy-commerce agenda.

He proposed creating community-driven stories to establish the area's unique character and improve pedestrian accessibility, including covered walkways connecting key transit points and the railway area. Such improvements would encourage tourists from nearby attractions to visit the market.

Regarding the contested 40-baht BTS fare policy, Chaivatana clarified that the fare should be distance-based, ranging from 8-45 baht—a proposal his council has been developing since the previous session. He explained the structure would include combined fares for multi-leg journeys (bus-to-BTS) rather than single tickets, allowing passengers to pay one fare from origin to destination regardless of transfers. He emphasized these figures were based on realistic data and sound principles, with tax subsidies supplementing but not fully covering costs, allowing remaining tax revenue for other welfare programs.

On his no-billboard campaign pledge, Chaivatana expressed his commitment to reducing campaign billboards starting with this Bangkok election. He argued that billboards obstruct pedestrian pathways and pose accident risks. Instead, his campaign would utilize multiple communication channels including brochures, social media, vinyl and canvas materials at markets, and centralized digital billboards. He noted that Bangkok's governor position has a single ballot number, and voters familiar with the Thai People's Party can identify him through alternative channels and media.

Anti-Corruption Committee Exposes 10 Government Agencies with Highest Average Bribe Amounts, Identifies Corruption as Major Drag on Business

A private sector survey reveals corruption remains a major obstacle for Thai businesses, with 89% citing it as a significant problem. The Zero Corruption Task Force identified 10 government agencies with the highest bribery rates, led by Hi

5d ago Khaosod

The Private Sector Tripartite Committee, through its Zero Corruption Task Force, has released a private sector opinion survey on transparency in government operations based on responses from 401 business executives and sector representatives nationwide between March 26 and April 10, 2025.

The survey found that corruption remains a structural crisis severely damaging Thailand's business environment. Key findings include: 89.1% of businesses view corruption as a moderate to major obstacle to operations; 51.2% believe corruption trends have worsened over the past three years; and 51% report increased difficulty in dealing with government agencies, with only 3% reporting improvement.

Direct experiences from the business sector reveal troubling patterns: 60.9% of permit applicants encountered hints or requests for compensation during their most recent application; 45.9% of companies confirmed paying money, gifts, or benefits to officials for convenience; and 37.3% acknowledged paying extra fees to win government contracts, averaging 11-15% of contract value.

Common bribe formats include cash (46.6%), gifts or entertaining (23.1%), and donations or sponsorships (18.7%). In recent bidding processes, 27.3% reported claims from individuals promising to help them win, while 27.3% received hints to use intermediaries or consultants.

Business leaders cited complex procedures (29.1%), excessive legal discretion (25.0%), and addressing procedural violations (18.8%) as main reasons for paying bribes. Alarmingly, 52.3% of businesses lack confidence in government whistleblowing channels, and 43.7% stated they "don't dare report" even when solicited for benefits.

The survey marks the first time agency-level data has been released, ranking government units by bribery risk. Highway Police and Traffic Police topped the list with a 100% rate of compensation requests (1.69 contacts annually). Other high-risk agencies included the Justice System excluding courts (94.4%), Subdistrict Administrative Organizations (91.7%), Port Authority (90.0%), and Department of Highways (82.0%). The Department of Pollution Control showed the highest average bribe amount at 102,160 baht per instance.

Great Warinthorn: Hormones Out of Balance from Not Resting Properly, Lives Daily Fighting Internal Voices

In an intimate interview, Thai actor and media personality Great Warinthorn reveals the vulnerability behind his perfect public image, sharing how his rescue cat with a severed leg became a catalyst for profound personal change. He discusses the emotional struggle of making the decision to amputate the cat's injured leg and how caring for the animal has helped him reconnect with his emotions and soften his previously rigid lifestyle focused on productivity.

5d ago Khaosod

Great Warinthorn: Hormones Out of Balance from Not Resting Properly, Lives Daily Fighting Internal Voices. In the "How are you feeling" interview, Great Warinthorn reveals another side of himself—a man who appears perfect and strong outwardly but constantly struggles with inner voices, fears, expectations, losing his beloved cat, a productivity addiction, and living without rest until he forgot to listen to his own emotions.

What happened with the cat? Great Warinthorn: When I first took him in, I didn't plan to own a cat at all. He had four legs initially. But one day, he dragged himself to my home with an injured leg. I decided to bring him inside and took him to a vet the next day. This happened during COVID, so I felt bonded to him. It was my first cat. Though I never thought I'd like cats, I ended up taking him to the vet and getting acupuncture treatments. The vet said his nerves were damaged. If left alone, he'd chew his own leg continuously, get infected, and die quickly. The solution was to amputate his leg. Cats adapt quickly, and he can live a full life, but we'd have to care for him since he couldn't hunt naturally. So I chose this solution. He became my first cat.

You love living alone—how did having another life in your home change things? Great Warinthorn: Honestly, I didn't think much about it initially. I just knew his quality of life depended on us. If we amputated his leg, we had to care for him. At that crossroads, letting him go meant he'd die quickly, but if we didn't care for him after amputation, that wouldn't be right. So I didn't overthink it—I just decided to take care of him.

How did he change your life? Great Warinthorn: I feel like I discovered the third and fourth voices within myself. I found a tenderness I never knew I needed. Interacting with a pet made me realize something—it's made me feel tired but also want to care for him the best I can. It happened naturally. Living alone, I'm introspective and self-aware. I remember when he first came, he meowed a lot. It was cute. In the early days, as his leg healed and he hopped around, I eventually realized he was adorable and talkative, very good at being affectionate. Before neutering, he'd vocalize constantly—every breath. Sometimes I couldn't concentrate on reading. If I didn't hold him, he wouldn't stop meowing. But after neutering, it's like his voice box was removed. I remember looking at his face and thinking, "Where would I find such a cute cat again?" That was my most tormented period—probably when I learned he was sick and in pain.

Your heart sinks instantly when the vet says something's wrong—does it turn your world upside down? Great Warinthorn: Yes. The most disturbing thing is seeing him suffer. These days, I do something: I wake up and meditate for 10 minutes every morning. I've been doing this for a month, and on good days, I'm okay. The moment I sensed something was wrong, that day everyone stayed home. I hadn't told my mother yet—I just told her, "Mom, I'm going to check on the cat first. He's not feeling well." But that morning, I hadn't spoken to anyone. I felt the house was chaotic. I sat alone meditating.

Dramatic Footage: Man Surrenders with Dead New Wife's Body, Ex-Wife Drives Him to Police

A man surrendered to Bang Buathong Police Station with his new wife's body, arriving at the guesthouse with his ex-wife, who had driven him there. The suspect had video called his ex-wife hours earlier, showing her the severely beaten victim. The case emerged after the ex-wife filed a report the previous evening, leading to the suspect's surrender the following morning with the deceased.

5d ago Khaosod

At 9:39 a.m. on May 14, 2026, security cameras at Bang Buathong Police Station recorded a white Toyota Altis driven by Ms. A (alias), a 44-year-old ex-wife, leading a silver-bronze Toyota Altis driven by Vinai (surname withheld), age 42, the suspect, into the guesthouse compound. Ms. A exited her vehicle to coordinate with police after informing them she would bring her husband to surrender in connection with the assault and death of Ms. Joy (surname withheld), his new wife. The suspect's vehicle then reversed and parked in front of the guesthouse, where officers observed the body of Ms. Joy slumped in the front left passenger seat, already deceased. As soon as the vehicle stopped, Deputy Superintendent Chanatip Phanthong of Bang Buathong Police Station approached to inspect the vehicle. Vinai then exited wearing a white shirt with a tense expression, and was immediately taken into custody. Evidence was documented and recorded before he was taken for initial questioning, with Ms. Nok present as a witness.

Later, reporters received details from Bang Buathong Police Station investigators regarding the timeline leading up to the incident. At 8:00 p.m. on May 13, 2026, Ms. A came to the station to file a report. She stated that around 11:00 a.m. that same day, her husband video called her and showed her Ms. Joy's condition, which displayed facial bruising and severe body contusions consistent with violent assault. During their conversation, Vinai admitted to Ms. A that he was the one who assaulted Ms. Joy, but did not provide his location. He then lost contact with her around 3:00 p.m. Ms. A believed Ms. Joy may have died and decided to go file a report as a precautionary record. By the morning of May 14, 2026, the suspect contacted her again before driving the body to surrender at Bang Buathong Police Station.
