On May 11, the Third Thai Luk Thung Music Day was celebrated warmly at Wat Rang Man in Nakhon Pathom, bringing together luk thung musicians and comedians to show gratitude to their mentors. This marks another significant milestone in the establishment of Thai Luk Thung Music Day, held annually on May 11. This year's event, led by Bripan Chaiyaphum, chairman of the Thai Luk Thung Musicians Association, and Oba Siang Nao, chairman of the Thai Comedians Association, was hosted jointly by musicians and comedians at Wat Rang Man under the patronage of Venerable Somsak Intho, the temple's abbot.
The event featured religious ceremonies, alms offerings, and traditional Thai merit dedications honoring deceased luk thung musicians and comedians whose contributions enriched Thai society for generations. The celebration continued with performances of love and faith, led by three national artists: Nakhon Thanom Sap, Chatchana Bunnaochoti, and Wong Chanthorn Phairojn, along with senior artists including Khosit Nopkhun, Maen Neramit, Panom Phai Lukphet, Jiraphan Veeraphong, Samae Thongkam, Dusit Duriyasak, Sadi Rongphotthong, Phupan Petchpathom, Od Four S, and Samphan Phatthalung, who led floral tributes to statues and portraits of late luk thung and comedy pioneers.
Younger generation artists from eight associations and one organization, including Thatchapol Himpan, Sirintra Niyakon, Rung Suriya, Damrong Vongtong, Kaesom Komsant, Rangsi Sereechai, Salakjit Duangchan, Jomkwan Kalya, and many others, presented flowers to senior artists in a symbolic passing of the torch from the old generation to future generations.
After the formal ceremonies, entertainment ensued with comedian-turned-broadcaster Saen Rak Meung Khorat welcoming guests to a concert atmosphere featuring artists from different generations performing together in a warm, familial setting. Special guest Hia Tee Rai Phay and entrepreneur Nai Hang Prakaskchai Haithongkam, along with local celebrities, provided support and financial contributions.
Bripan Chaiyaphum expressed his hope that luk thung culture, a national heritage, would be passed on to future generations, stating that gathering for Thai Luk Thung Music Day represents an important force in cultural preservation. He encouraged younger artists to carry luk thung music as seeds for transmitting Thailand's invaluable cultural legacy.
Oba Siang Nao emphasized that the younger generation paying respect to older artists, who in turn honor deceased masters, creates a continuous cultural tradition worthy of the title "Luk Thung, the Nation's Companion."
Thatchapol Himpan, chairman of the Thai Luk Thung Singers Association, noted that this third year of Thai Luk Thung Music Day aims to set a positive example by uniting national artists, music teachers, singers, and comedians in celebrating their shared heritage.
