Eleven people narrowly survived after a small aircraft made an emergency landing in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida and drifted on a life raft for over 5 hours before rescue teams arrived. The pilot revealed that in his 25 years of flying, he had never faced such a catastrophic situation before.

The incident occurred on May 15, 2026, during a short 20-minute flight from Marsh Harbour in the Abaco Islands, Bahamas, heading to Freeport on Grand Bahama Island. On May 14, 2026, Pol. Col. Kukkong Disawat and officers from the Sikhiu Police Station arrested 26-year-old Nattaphong on charges of possessing counterfeit trademark goods for sale and customs law violations. The operation took place on the M6 motorway at kilometer 155 in Nakhon Ratchasima province.

Police seized an Isuzu pickup truck (registered in Kamphaeng Phet), 2,231 counterfeit branded t-shirts, 900 counterfeit designer backpacks, and 10,630 packs of foreign cigarettes—items worth a combined 5 million baht.

The arrest followed intelligence indicating an organized smuggling operation importing counterfeit goods for domestic distribution. When officers stopped and inspected the vehicle, the driver initially denied knowledge of the cargo. Upon inspection, officers discovered the massive haul of counterfeit merchandise and contraband cigarettes.

Under interrogation, Nattaphong confessed to collecting the goods from a shophouse in Mueang district, Nong Khai province, and transporting them to a warehouse in Bang Khun Thian, Bangkok. He stated that a man named "Chai" (surname unknown) hired him for 5,000 baht per trip. Police are continuing their investigation to track down other members of the smuggling network.
