Residents Baffled by Mystery Garbage Trucks Abandoned on Roadside for Years, Owner Unknown
Two abandoned garbage trucks loaded with waste have been sitting on a roadside near Bangkok for years, prompting health and traffic concerns in Pathum Thani province as authorities search for their owners.
On May 9, 2025, residents and merchants near the PTT Jiffy gas station at kilometer 7 on the Pathum Thani-Bang Poon road in Ban Klang subdistrict, Mueang district, Pathum Thani province filed complaints about garbage trucks that have been abandoned on the roadside for an extended period, causing concerns about public health impacts and traffic obstruction.
Field inspection revealed two vehicles parked on the roadside: a silver-bronze Isuzu single-cab pickup truck with Bangkok license plate 1ฒณ4810, and a white Hino six-wheel truck with Bangkok license plate 65-4528. Both vehicles are loaded with tightly packed sacks showing thick dust accumulation and emitting unpleasant odors.
Visut, 53, a local durian vendor who requested anonymity, revealed that these vehicles have been abandoned here for years. He visits the area seasonally to sell durian and always finds the same trucks in the same spot. "They've been here since last year. Last year there were two trucks, but one disappeared. Now there's only one left in the regular spot. I'm puzzled why they don't just take it away," he said.
Regarding the truck contents, Visut speculated they likely contain old recyclable materials, plastic waste scraps, and garbage. While he doesn't see them regularly, he expressed concern about health risks for permanent residents, noting that rainwater runoff could carry contaminants and attract rodents and insects.
Ban Klang Subdistrict Municipality confirmed they have received continuous complaints and are coordinating with relevant agencies including Suan Phrik Police Station to verify vehicle registrations and locate owners. The Transportation Office of Pathum Thani Province, Mueang District Office, and Pathum Thani Highway Division are being contacted to inspect what type of waste is being transported, whether it's hazardous, and to relocate the obstructing vehicles to restore traffic flow and ensure public health and safety.
