Police Arrest Woman for Human Trafficking: Lured Friend with Casino Job Promises Before Selling Her into Prostitution
Thai police arrested a 31-year-old woman for human trafficking after she lured a friend through Facebook with false promises of casino employment in Singapore. The victim was actually trafficked to Bahrain for forced prostitution, prompting an investigation that revealed the suspect had victimized multiple women using the same deceptive tactics.
On April 24, 2569, Police Colonel Withaya Sriprasertphap, commander of the Immigration Police Bureau, ordered the arrest of 31-year-old Ms. Ladapha (also known as Kanchana) under criminal court warrant 2235/2569 dated April 21. She faces multiple charges including human trafficking for sexual exploitation, using deception and threats, and transporting victims abroad.
The case began in October 2559 when the victim discovered the suspect's Facebook post—from a former friend—recruiting workers as casino chip exchangers in Singapore with promised monthly income of around 100,000 baht, free accommodation, and travel advances. The victim obtained a passport and convinced another female friend to join. However, upon travel dates, the suspect informed them the job location had changed to Bahrain.
Once in Bahrain, the victims discovered they were deceived into sex work. They learned the suspect had victimized multiple others, earning approximately 30,000 baht per person as commission. When the victims refused, they were threatened with debt repayment demands of over 100,000 baht for travel expenses.
The victims sought help from the Pavena Foundation, which assisted them in filing complaints with Bahrain police and Thai investigators. Evidence was compiled and a warrant issued. During interrogation, the suspect denied all charges. She has been transferred to investigators for legal proceedings.
