Meteorological Department Issues First Alert: Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall and Flash Flooding Risk

The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a first-level weather warning for May 14-18 predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall across northern, central, northeastern, and southern Thailand, with risks of flash floods and landslides. Sea waves in the Andaman Sea are expected to exceed 3 meters during thunderstorms, prompting authorities to advise caution for coastal residents and fishermen.

6d ago Khaosod

On May 13, 2569, the Thai Meteorological Department issued an alert (No. 61/2569) warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Thailand and strong winds in the Andaman Sea region, with impacts from May 14-18, 2569. The northern, central, northeastern, and southern regions will experience increased rainfall with heavy downpours in some areas.

Residents in these areas are urged to be cautious of heavy rainfall and accumulated water that may cause flash floods and landslides, particularly in hillside areas near water channels and low-lying regions. This weather pattern is caused by an intensifying low-pressure system in the lower Bay of Bengal that will move to cover the upper Bay of Bengal, combined with the strengthening southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.

Regarding sea conditions, waves in the Andaman Sea will reach 2-3 meters from May 14-18, exceeding 3 meters in thunderstorm areas. The upper Gulf of Thailand will see waves around 2 meters, exceeding 2 meters during thunderstorms. Fishermen are advised to navigate carefully and avoid thunderstorm areas. Small vessels in the Andaman Sea should remain ashore during this period.

The public is encouraged to monitor updates from the Thai Meteorological Department via their website at http://www.tmd.go.th or by calling 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182 available 24 hours daily. The next alert will be issued on May 13, 2569 at 5:00 PM.

Thailand avoided last place in their U-17 AFC Asian Championship 2026 group after mounting a comeback to draw 2-2 with Myanmar, though they came dangerously close to conceding a late goal.

In the final group match on May 12 in Saudi Arabia, both Thailand and Myanmar had already been eliminated. The result only mattered for avoiding last place in Group A.

Myanmar took control early, with Sai Myat Min converting in the 19th minute after Lin Yar Aung's run. Min doubled the lead in the 22nd minute with another clinical finish, making it 2-0. Thailand pulled one back in the 30th minute when Pakorn Suttiprapha finished after a piercing through-ball from Palpitack Rungreu, trimming the deficit to 2-1 at halftime.

Thailand equalized in the 75th minute through David Gabbert, who cut inside and fired past Myanmar's defense to make it 2-2. In the 90+3rd minute, Myanmar nearly snatched a winner when a free kick reached the box, but Herdsada Mansin fumbled and Myo Kaung Kyaw's follow-up was ruled offside.

Saudi Arabia won the group with 7 points by drawing 5-5 with Tajikistan, with both advancing. Thailand finished third with 1 point and escaped last place due to superior goal difference over Myanmar, who finished fourth.

Hot-headed Rider Arrested for Stabbing Car Driver to Death Following Minor Collision; Claims Self-Defense

A 22-year-old motorcycle rider was arrested in Chon Buri after fatally stabbing a car driver following a minor traffic collision in Nonthaburi, claiming he acted in self-defense after the driver attacked him with a hammer.

6d ago Khaosod

A hot-headed motorcycle rider has been arrested for stabbing a car driver to death following a minor traffic collision. The incident occurred when Chalermkiart Praphasat, 39, was driving a black Honda Civic with his wife from a Forest Department residence in Nonthaburi's Muang district when the vehicle scraped against a motorcycle driven by Veeraphat, 22. After both parties exited their vehicles to discuss the matter, a verbal argument ensued. Veeraphat then stabbed Chalermkiart once beneath the left rib, causing fatal injuries. Chalermkiart died en route to Phra Nang Klao Hospital.

Veeraphat initially fled the scene but was tracked down by investigators from Muang Nonthaburi Police Station and apprehended in front of his father-in-law's house in Chon Buri's Bang Lamung district around 10 p.m. on May 12. He was charged with causing death by assault and carrying a concealed weapon in public.

During questioning, Veeraphat admitted to stabbing the victim but claimed self-defense. He stated that on the day of the incident, he was running errands before heading home to buy pork for his mother. He alleged that after the argument, the car driver suddenly grabbed a hammer from his vehicle and struck him first, causing wounds to his head that required stitches, as well as injuries to his shoulder, arm, and leg. Veeraphat claimed he only stabbed once in self-defense, as he felt threatened for his life and didn't intend to kill. He acknowledged carrying a small pocket knife, approximately 3 inches long, for self-protection due to previous dangerous encounters. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence before forwarding the case for prosecution and detention.

Cambodian man arrested for axe attack killing 27-year-old Thai worker over shoe incident in noodle bowl

A 24-year-old Cambodian laborer has been arrested for axe-murdering a 27-year-old Thai worker in Rayong province after the victim threw his shoe into a bowl of instant noodles. The suspect had falsified his nationality as Myanmarese to gain employment and attempted to flee by stealing his employer's pickup truck before being apprehended by police. Investigators also found he had illegally entered Thailand.

6d ago Khaosod

On May 13, police arrested a 24-year-old Cambodian national named Noo in connection with the fatal axe attack that occurred on May 10 in Rayong's Muang District. The victim, Sak Sidthi, a 27-year-old Thai laborer, was killed while sleeping on a canvas bed outside a rental house. After the attack, the suspect stole his employer Sirannya's pickup truck and a mobile phone before fleeing.

Police traced the abandoned pickup truck 7 kilometers away in Samkong Subdistrict, where it had run out of fuel. The suspect then borrowed a motorcycle from a fellow countryman and hid in a rubber plantation in Ban Khai District. The following morning, he attempted to apply for work at a rubber processing factory before being apprehended by police.

During interrogation at Samkong Police Station, Noo confessed to falsifying his nationality as Myanmarese because he feared the employer would not hire Cambodian workers. He also admitted to illegal border crossing. According to his account, the incident began when both men drank alcohol together, leading to an argument about work. When Noo was preparing instant noodles, the victim approached and threw Noo's canvas shoe into the noodle bowl in anger. This enraged Noo, who seized the opportunity while the victim was resting on the canvas bed to strike him with an axe in the neck, resulting in death. Noo stole the pickup truck to escape but abandoned it when it ran out of fuel and he was unfamiliar with the route. He then borrowed his friend's motorcycle and attempted to find new employment as if nothing had happened.

Police have filed serious charges against Noo and discovered he had illegally entered Thailand. He has been detained and will face legal proceedings.

Mind Presents Evidence to Rebut Claims, Clarifies Mother Transferred Land to Two Children; Warns Those Spreading False Information to Expect Legal Action

Mind Laphatsalal released land title documents as evidence to counter claims in a family property dispute involving her husband Phai Sunistha and his sister Trai Sirinath over a Hua Hin house. She clarified that their mother transferred the property to both siblings and warned that anyone spreading false information online should expect legal action, accepting only monetary apologies.

6d ago Khaosod

Mind Laphatsalal, wife of Phai Sunistha, has posted land title documents for the Hua Hin property showing both Phai Sunistha and Trai Sirinath as owners, providing evidence that their mother transferred the property to both of them rather than just one person as previously claimed. This comes after Trai Sirinath publicly accused her brother Phai of multiple instances of harassment and their mother of pursuing an inheritance lawsuit over the Hua Hin house allegedly left by their grandfather. Phai had previously clarified that the original house belonged to their grandfather, who distributed it to his children including their mother. He explained that their mother transferred her share to both him and Trai, but initiated legal action due to property damage, unauthorized occupation by outsiders, and misuse of common assets—seeking to reclaim the property for security purposes. Mind warned that anyone posting defamatory, false, or distorted comments intended to incite hatred should expect legal action, stating she will only accept monetary apologies and will not accept other forms of reconciliation.

He dismissed speculation about terminal illness and announced he is proposing new elections for the club's board of directors, in which the current board will also participate. Pérez called for transparency in the electoral process, urging potential candidates to campaign openly rather than through media campaigns.

Some people have said I have terminal cancer. I want to use this opportunity to inform you that I remain Madrid's president and my health is in excellent condition. If I were ill as they claim, I would already be in a cancer treatment center." Trump's China Visit: Expected Talks with Xi Jinping on Taiwan and Iran War

U.S. President Donald Trump is set to visit China from May 13-15 to meet with President Xi Jinping, with expectations of discussing major bilateral issues including Taiwan and the Iran war. While both nations agree on maintaining stability, experts predict minimal breakthrough results, particularly on the contentious Taiwan issue. China is being called upon by the U.S. to use its influence to help resolve the conflict in Iran, though Beijing has remained cautious about deeper involvement.

6d ago Khaosod

All eyes on Trump's China visit—AP reports on May 12 about U.S. President Donald Trump's official visit to China, where he will meet and discuss with Chinese President Xi Jinping between May 13-15. Amid expectations of major breakthroughs in resolving longstanding disputes between China and the U.S.—from technological competition to sensitive Taiwan matters that have strained international relations. Two weeks before the meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a phone call that bilateral relations remain generally stable, but Taiwan remains the greatest risk to the relationship. China has again signaled that Taiwan will be among the top priorities in discussions, with little hope of resolving this protracted issue. The meeting agenda may also include efforts to end the war with Iran, as China serves as an informal mediator. Henrietta Levin, senior researcher and China studies expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in the U.S., stated: "Both sides agree that stability between the U.S. and China is important. Once you move past the stability question, what happens next in the relationship becomes more complicated. For that reason, there's very little likely to come from this meeting." China has openly criticized the U.S. and Israel regarding the war in Iran. Given China's close political and economic ties with Iran, many view China as an informal mediator capable of influencing the Iranian government. However, China has remained cautious and chosen not to become deeply involved. Levin also noted that China is unlikely to want to solve problems the U.S. created for itself in the Middle East. Days earlier, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called on China to pressure Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, stating that China's purchase of Iranian oil constitutes support for terrorism. "Let's see whether China will use diplomatic means and get Iran to open the strait. Iran is the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism, and China buys up to 90 percent of its energy from Iran, so China is essentially funding the world's largest terrorist state," Bessent said on Fox News.
