A 22-year-old motorcycle rider was arrested in Chon Buri after fatally stabbing a car driver following a minor traffic collision in Nonthaburi, claiming he acted in self-defense after the driver attacked him with a hammer.
A hot-headed motorcycle rider has been arrested for stabbing a car driver to death following a minor traffic collision. The incident occurred when Chalermkiart Praphasat, 39, was driving a black Honda Civic with his wife from a Forest Department residence in Nonthaburi's Muang district when the vehicle scraped against a motorcycle driven by Veeraphat, 22. After both parties exited their vehicles to discuss the matter, a verbal argument ensued. Veeraphat then stabbed Chalermkiart once beneath the left rib, causing fatal injuries. Chalermkiart died en route to Phra Nang Klao Hospital.
Veeraphat initially fled the scene but was tracked down by investigators from Muang Nonthaburi Police Station and apprehended in front of his father-in-law's house in Chon Buri's Bang Lamung district around 10 p.m. on May 12. He was charged with causing death by assault and carrying a concealed weapon in public.
During questioning, Veeraphat admitted to stabbing the victim but claimed self-defense. He stated that on the day of the incident, he was running errands before heading home to buy pork for his mother. He alleged that after the argument, the car driver suddenly grabbed a hammer from his vehicle and struck him first, causing wounds to his head that required stitches, as well as injuries to his shoulder, arm, and leg. Veeraphat claimed he only stabbed once in self-defense, as he felt threatened for his life and didn't intend to kill. He acknowledged carrying a small pocket knife, approximately 3 inches long, for self-protection due to previous dangerous encounters. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence before forwarding the case for prosecution and detention.
