Heartbreaking: 85-Year-Old Grandmother Bedridden and Desperate to See Her Two Sons Before She Passes

An 85-year-old bedridden grandmother in Saraburi province desperately hopes to see her two estranged sons before she dies, as her only caregiver prepares to leave for military service in May. Her 21-year-old grandson has been her sole suppo

26 Apr Khaosod

A heartbreaking case has emerged of an 85-year-old grandmother, Nang Kaew Kraisutorn, who is bedridden in a small rented room in Nong Kaek district, Saraburi province, desperately hoping to see her two sons, Anan and Anuwat, before she passes away. Her only other child, Rani, died years ago, and her two sons left home and never returned, cutting off all contact with their mother. For years, Nang Kaew lived with her three grandsons—the sons of Rani—at Phan Dara village, until the middle grandson, Uen, who was addicted to drugs, began beating her and demanding money. Villagers eventually helped her escape to a rented room for safety. Now, her 21-year-old grandson, Sophchai (nicknamed Um), who is the son of Rani, has been her primary caregiver, helping with meals, medications, and daily needs. However, Um must report for military service on May 1st at Don Mueang, leaving his grandmother with minimal care support. Nang Kaew suffers from pressure ulcers on her hips and back, and requires daily blood pressure and cholesterol medications. Her only financial support comes from Anan's wife, who sends 1,500 baht monthly for rent. Nang Kaew expressed her deepest wish to see her two sons before her time comes, saying she misses them terribly despite their years of abandonment. Um tearfully pleaded with his uncles to visit their mother at least once, as their grandmother has not seen them in many years. Um himself earns money as a laundry worker, receiving 1,500 baht monthly plus 200 baht weekly, which he uses to support his grandmother's care.

A 44-year-old teacher in Ayutthaya was shot dead by a motorcyclist who went on a shooting rampage following a crash, killing her and injuring another driver. Police charged the 35-year-old suspect with murder, attempted murder, and firearm

26 Apr Khaosod

A tragic shooting incident has left a family devastated after Phibhasara, a 44-year-old teacher who had only been teaching for four years at Wat Sukuntharama School in Ayutthaya, was shot and killed by 35-year-old Saravut (surname withheld) following a motorcycle crash. Saravut became deranged and fired a gun at vehicles and civilians along Phra Ya Ban Lue Canal Road, resulting in one death and one injury. According to her younger brother Thanakorn, Phibhasara was traveling with family members and her two children when she received a call that she had been shot. What initially seemed non-serious turned critical by the time they reached the hospital, where she died shortly after.

Eyewitness Wallop, 60, who was injured in the attack, recounted that while driving his family from Chachoengsao province to a wedding, he encountered a truck blocking the road at the incident location. Suddenly, the gunman approached and fired at his vehicle, with the bullet piercing the windshield and striking his left arm, requiring four stitches. He managed to escape the area and later learned multiple other vehicles had also been targeted.

Police have filed multiple charges against Saravut, including illegal possession of a 9mm firearm and ammunition, carrying a firearm in public without justification, reckless discharge of a firearm in a residential area, possession of methamphetamine pills, murder, and attempted murder. Investigators collected shell casings, fingerprints, and DNA evidence from the scene for comparison with the weapon used. The incident has shocked the community as innocent civilians were targeted without warning.

Boxed In - Can't Beat the BRN, So They Target the Media and Politicians Instead

Security forces unable to suppress southern insurgents have resorted to targeting media, politicians, and civil society with false accusations of BRN sympathies, a pattern highlighted after a naval officer allegedly shot MP Kamlasak Leewame

26 Apr Khaosod

Social media users are sharing satirical jabs at security agencies operating in the three southern border provinces, and they're clearly enjoying it. Many agree these are apt jabs that ring remarkably true: the military and security forces in the southern border region, realistically speaking, have proven incapable of suppressing insurgents. After years of southern unrest, unable to defeat the BRN, they've resorted to targeting media, politicians, NGOs, and others instead.

Using IO (information operations) units from security agencies, they've manufactured narratives accusing media outlets, politicians, NGOs, and civil society figures of being BRN sympathizers. Is this the security apparatus's idea of counterinsurgency? They simply accuse others of being BRN operatives and challenge them to fight back—chaotic and absurd.

The reality in the three southern border provinces heated up recently when an assailant used an M16 to gun down MP Kamlasak Leewameuk from the Prachathai Party. Because Prachathai refused to stay silent and police quickly investigated and arrested the perpetrator, the case exploded—the shooter was a former naval officer and former ranger using a government vehicle. Incredibly, an active-duty naval captain from the Narathiwat Royal Thai Navy provided the vehicle. Both former and current government officials were involved, and Regional Commander 4 stirred the pot further, making this a massive story.

Clearly, the incident began with an attack on an elected politician, the assailant was apprehended—someone from within government using official vehicles. Yet state IO units launched a diversion operation, attacking those investigating the matter as BRN sympathizers. These are completely different issues.

It started with former and current government officials using government vehicles to open fire on an elected Prachathai politician, and they've since attacked journalist Prasad Iedsirichay as BRN media, accused civil society of breeding violence, and had the shooter himself—the former naval officer—accuse his victim of separatism. Enough. Stop the attacks on media, human rights defenders, and politicians. The facts won't disappear regardless.

Stop the diversion. You can't divert this. And when you lack the capability to defeat the BRN, don't divert by targeting media, politicians, and NGOs with false accusations—that only fuels deeper conflict.

Don't Try This! Chinese Youth Viral Challenge of Hugging Electric Poles While Sitting Ends with People Getting Stuck

A dangerous Chinese viral challenge involving hugging electric poles while seated has left multiple participants dangerously stuck, with one woman from Jiangsu Province requiring police rescue after her legs went numb from the tight grip.

26 Apr Khaosod

A dangerous viral challenge circulating on Chinese social media involves sitting down and tightly wrapping both legs around an electric pole, then attempting to escape without assistance. While it seems easy in theory, the challenge has proven difficult in practice and has attracted numerous participants, many of whom have become dangerously stuck.

One young woman named Xiaosong from Jiangsu Province attempted the challenge while out for a walk. She initially thought there would be no problem, but when she actually tried it, she found both her legs locked tightly with her lower body unable to move. The harder she struggled to free herself, the tighter the grip became, causing her knees and ankles to ache and her legs to go numb. She eventually had to call police for help. When officers arrived, they calmed her down and carefully adjusted her position until she could escape, but her legs remained numb and stiff from prolonged pressure, leaving her temporarily unable to stand or walk.

Meanwhile, another man who attempted the challenge in the middle of the night became stuck for over 15 minutes before requiring help from a food delivery worker to break free.

These incidents have prompted warnings from authorities and concerned parties that blindly following viral challenges without proper caution can pose serious hidden dangers.

Chinese Woman Expected Rest After Raising 9 Children, Instead Caring for Nearly 30 Grandchildren Alone

A Chinese woman in Guangdong who raised nine children hoped for rest in her elderly years, but now cares for nearly 30 grandchildren alone while her home resembles a kindergarten.

26 Apr Khaosod

Life barely stops! A Chinese woman thought she would finally get a break once her nine children grew up, but instead she's now raising nearly 30 grandchildren on her own. Her home now resembles a kindergarten.

With nine children and nearly 30 grandchildren, they all constantly revolve around her. The life of one mother in Guangdong Province, China, barely knows the words "off duty" or "rest time." From when she was young and had to raise many children to entering her elderly years, she continues to shoulder responsibility for caring for her grandchildren. Her home is filled with the chaos and bustle of a kindergarten, and her story has become a topic of discussion online.

According to reports from Daxiang News, the family revealed that this woman devoted herself completely to raising all nine children until they grew up. She originally thought that once they moved out and started their own families, life would finally be more relaxed. Instead, she now bears the responsibility of caring for a large number of grandchildren.

From cooking, doing laundry, to childcare every day, she barely has any free time. Her daily life revolves almost entirely around family responsibilities.

Even though she lives in an environment filled with continuous caregiving demands, the family says she barely complains and has grown accustomed to this pace of life. She feels reassured knowing she can help lighten her children's burden.

With so many young family members in the home, children running around the house has become a regular sight, creating an atmosphere described as "like a childcare center." After the story spread online, public opinion split into two camps.

One group sees this as a reflection of family bonds and representative of traditional extended families. The other group points out that elderly people bearing the long-term burden of raising grandchildren reflects problems with family role distribution and parenting pressures in today's era.

Considering Chinese society in recent years, the number of dual-income families has increased, leaving many struggling to balance work and childcare. Consequently, multi-generational childcare and grandparents helping raise grandchildren have become increasingly common.

While grandparents helping with childcare does relieve some burden from their adult children, over-relying on elderly people long-term can cause them to face continuous exhaustion and heavy burdens.

Regarding this situation, some feel moved while others feel sympathetic. Although for this elderly woman, the chaos may have become part of her daily life, to outsiders, the image of "one person bearing the entire family's weight" remains food for thought.

Doctor Reveals Why Bad Breath Persists Despite Daily Brushing, Offers 3 Prevention Methods and Warns of Tonsil Stones

Dr. Chang Chia-chun explains that persistent bad breath despite regular brushing is often caused by tonsil stones—small white or yellowish deposits in throat grooves formed from food debris and bacteria. He recommends three prevention methods: maintaining oral hygiene with flossing, gargling deeply after meals, and drinking adequate water, while warning against self-removal attempts due to risk of infection.

Doctor Reveals Why Bad Breath Persists Despite Daily Brushing, Offers 3 Prevention Methods and Warns of Tonsil Stones

Even with diligent daily brushing, many people still experience bad breath or a sensation of something stuck in their throat. Dr. Chang Chia-chun, an ear, nose, and throat specialist, warns that many patients visiting doctors for bad breath or sore throat issues are often surprised to learn the culprit isn't inadequate oral hygiene, but rather "tonsil stones"—small white or yellowish deposits that accumulate in the grooves of the tonsils.

These stones form from food debris, shed mouth lining cells, and bacteria that accumulate and harden over time. Despite their small size, they can produce intense odors and are a major cause of chronic bad breath.

Dr. Chang shared health information on Facebook page "小峻醫師 張嘉峻," explaining that the tonsil surface isn't smooth but filled with small grooves called "crypts" or tonsil crypts. These areas easily trap cell debris, food particles, and bacteria. Over time, accumulated material can solidify into tonsil stones. Patients often feel something stuck in their throat, experience throat irritation, or in some cases involuntarily cough or speak out particles of a foul-smelling stone.

Prevention Methods for Tonsil Stone-Related Bad Breath

Dr. Chang recommends starting with daily habits:

- Maintain consistent oral hygiene by brushing teeth after meals and using dental floss to reduce food debris accumulation - Gargle deeply after eating using clean water or alcohol-free mouthwash, tilting your head back to help flush throat residue - Drink adequate water daily to maintain mouth moisture and reduce stone formation chances

The doctor emphasizes that if you suspect tonsil stones, don't attempt self-removal with fingers or unsterilized cotton swabs, as tonsil tissue is delicate and highly vascular—removal attempts can cause wounds, bleeding, or serious bacterial infections.

If tonsil stones recur frequently or significantly impact quality of life, consult a specialist for proper professional cleaning using medical equipment, or in some cases, consider tonsil removal surgery for long-term resolution.

PM Opens Phra Prathom Songkran Festival, Quips Back at Teenager's Taunt About Running Out of Money

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul opened the 2025 Phra Prathom Songkran Festival in Samut Prakan on Saturday, celebrating Thai-Mon heritage and UNESCO-recognized cultural traditions while quipping back at a teenager's jab about finances.

26 Apr Khaosod

At 3:30 PM on April 26, 2025, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, alongside his wife Thannont Charnvirakul, presided over the opening of the 2025 Phra Prathom Songkran Festival at Pom Plang Fai Municipality School in Samut Prakan Province. The Prime Minister wore traditional male dress while his wife wore traditional Mon-Thai clothing. The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Songsakdi Thongsri, Culture Minister Sabeeda Thaisarttasat, Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phan-Charoenworrakul, and other senior government officials.

The annual Phra Prathom Songkran Festival celebrates Thai-Mon heritage and promotes local tourism. This year's celebration also marks the 211th anniversary of Nakhon Khae Khuen Khanthai. The Prime Minister expressed delight at attending and witnessing the public's joy during the festivities. He emphasized the government's commitment to supporting local cultural traditions and noted that UNESCO had recognized Thai Songkran as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The PM highlighted that Phra Prathom's Songkran celebration is one of five representative ceremonies that earned UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage designation. He commended both the Tourism and Culture Ministers for their roles in the recognition. Phra Prathom Songkran is one of four major regional festivals that the government promotes as part of its nationwide tourism initiative.

At one point, the PM remarked off-script about reading from a prepared speech, saying he preferred to speak from the heart to the people he met. A reporter noted that when teenagers in the audience shouted a taunt about him running out of money, he responded good-naturedly rather than dismissing the criticism.
