Family honours man’s final wish with funeral dancersLegacyThree dancers were hired to perform in front of a coffin during a funeral on April 20 in Nakhon Si Thammarat, after the family said they were honouring the deceased man’s final wish. The funeral took place on the final night for 59 year old Winit at his home in Ron Phibun district, Nakhon Si Thammarat. A Facebook page livestreamed the event, which drew hundreds of viewers. After monks finished the funeral rites and made their way back to the temple, the host family hired a sound system truck and three dancers to perform in front of the coffin. People of all ages were seen watching, while the livestream was widely viewed, liked and shared. Photo via Facebook: เอก ร่อนพิบูลย์ อิฐบล็อกภาคใต้ Relatives said Winit, who died on April 15, had been a cheerful and lively man who was well known and respected in the community. They said he had previously told his family not to grieve when he died and asked for dancers to perform in front of his coffin. His body was placed at the family home for funeral rites in Ron Phibun subdistrict. On the final night, April 20, his children and relatives arranged the performance in line with that request. DailyNews reported that the cremation was scheduled for yesterday, April 21, at Wat Thepphanom Chuet in Ron Phibun district, Nakhon Si Thammarat. Photo via Facebook: เอก ร่อนพิบูลย์ อิฐบล็อกภาคใต้ The performance has attracted many comments online, with some supporting the family’s decision and others opposing it. Supporters said the family was simply honouring the deceased’s final wish and that no harm was done. Critics, however, said the performance was inappropriate for children and young people at the event, many of whom watched throughout. Some argued it could encourage unsuitable behaviour and clash with Thai cultural traditions. Elsewhere, a lively funeral was held in Loei for a 58 year old photographer known across the province, as friends and family gathered to pay respects. Rather than a sombre ceremony, the funeral reflected his upbeat personality, with mourners setting up a campsite and singing songs he loved. Woman catches, punches peeping tom filming in Surat Thani toiletLegacyA woman punched a man after catching him filming her inside a toilet at a petrol station in Surat Thani on April 16, before police were called. The incident took place at a petrol station in Baan Na Doem district after a group of women were returning from Songkran celebrations and heading back to Khian Sa district. They stopped at the station to use the toilets and the convenience store. Prae, a 27 year old woman wearing a black shirt, said she noticed a mobile phone protruding from the next stall while she was in the toilet. At first, she thought one of her friends was playing a prank. However, after her group came out and realised everyone was already outside, they called for the person in the stall to come out. Nearly 10 minutes later, a teenage male emerged. Photo via DailyNews When questioned, the man initially denied filming and said he had been hiding in the toilet from another group of teenagers. Prae, who said she was angry about being recorded, then punched him several times as her friends tried to stop her. The confrontation was recorded by the women in the group. DailyNews reported that after they asked to see his phone, the screen displayed a message saying the images had been deleted. The group also found numerous searches for pornographic websites on his phone. However, he still denied filming secret videos in the toilet at that point. Convenience store staff and petrol station workers stepped in and called the police. A complaint was later filed at Baan Na Doem Police Station. Photo via DailyNews Police said the suspect later admitted he had secretly filmed inside the toilet, apologised, and said he had deleted the clip. His phone was confiscated, while the confrontation video was later posted online as a “warning”. Responding to online comments about her punches, Prae said she had previously trained in boxing for sport and self-defence. She also warned women using public toilets, especially those alone, to stay alert and pay close attention to their surroundings. Elsewhere, officers from the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau arrested a Thai man in the southern province of Prachuap Khiri Khan for possessing and selling spycam pornography. Officials found 60,000 files of pornography in his possession. The story Woman catches, punches peeping tom filming in Surat Thani toilet as seen on Thaiger News.

The theft took place on April 10 at a car garage in Mueang district. The victim later shared CCTV footage of the incident on Facebook, showing a suspect wearing a black jacket, black bucket hat, and brown trousers entering a room where valuables were stored. According to the victim, gold bars and Buddhist amulets valued at over 2.5 million baht were taken. He also posted an image of a black pickup truck believed to have been used in the crime in an effort to identify those involved. The case was reported to Mueang Ranong Police Station, with the victim offering a 50,000 baht reward for information leading to the suspects’ arrest. Online users noted that the suspect appeared to know exactly where the valuables were kept, suggesting possible involvement from his family members or someone close to the victim. Yala boy with special needs found dead in scrapyard car after four-day searchLegacyA 12 year old Thai boy with special needs was found dead in a scrap car about 800 metres away, four days after he went missing from his home in Yala province. The 38 year old mother, Wanida, reported the disappearance of her son, Yuttasak, also known as Best, to Yarom Police Station on April 12 after the boy went missing from their home in Soi Sub Anan in the Betong district in the afternoon on the day. Wanida told police that Best was a child with special needs who often played in the forest near the house or went fishing at Betong Canal. She said he had never been away from home for this long before. Wanida, relatives and locals searched for the boy but found no sign of him, leading her to file a police complaint. Photo via Amarin TV Rescuers from the Muslim Betong Foundation later found Best’s body in a vehicle scrapyard behind a garage located about 800 metres from his home. The discovery was made after rescuers noticed a foul smell while searching near the garage. They searched the area and found the boy inside a blue Ford sedan registered in Malaysia. KhaoSod reported that the vehicle was left at the garage by its Malaysian owner after it broke down. Police from Yarom Police Station said there were no signs of physical assault on the boy’s body. Investigators suspect Best may have entered the vehicle to play or rest before falling asleep in the heat. Photo via Amarin TV Police believe he may have died from a lack of oxygen, but his body was sent to the hospital for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death. Officers said the case has not yet been concluded. They collected fingerprints from the vehicle and have not ruled out other possibilities, including whether someone may have lured Best to the scene and attacked him. British man apologises after drifting car near Songkran event

A 55-year-old British man faces licence revocation and fines up to 20,000 baht after drifting a car near a Songkran festival in Hat Yai on April 12, endangering festival-goers.

British man apologises after drifting car near Songkran eventLegacyPolice are seeking to revoke the driving licence of a British man who was caught drifting a car during Songkran celebrations in Hat Yai district of Songkhla province on April 12. Viral footage shared on Thai social media showed a red vehicle drifting on a concrete area near the Songkran event site close to Black Bridge in Hat Yai district. Some witnesses said the driver had earlier been praised for giving way to an emergency vehicle, but he later drew criticism for the drifting. People attending the festival were reportedly confused by the incident. Officers from Hat Yai Police Station later identified the driver as a 55 year old British man. Police tracked him to a house in Bang Klam district, Songkhla. Photo via Facebook/ สงขลาโฟกัส – SongkhlaFocus The man admitted the offence and told police he wanted to do something fun during Songkran. He said he did not intend to cause trouble for motorists or the public and added that he loved Thailand. In a video released after his arrest, the British man apologised to locals for his actions. Police said the location was not a public road, but it was close to the festival venue, where large numbers of people gathered. Officers said the act could have endangered the public, leading them to charge him with driving without regard for safety or causing inconvenience to others. Under Section 43(8) of the Land Transport Act, the offence carries a fine of 5,000 to 20,000 baht, a prison term of up to three months, or both. Photo via Facebook/ สงขลาโฟกัส – SongkhlaFocus Police also forwarded the case to the Department of Land Transport to request revocation of the man’s driving licence. In a similar case in Phuket last year, two foreigners were fined for reckless and dangerous driving after viral footage showed them drifting a pickup truck in a car park outside a convenience store in September. Another case was reported in Chon Buri in October last year, when an Icelandic man was arrested for drifting a rented pickup truck around Bang Saen Roundabout in the rain.
