U.S. Orders DR Congo Football Team to Quarantine for 21 Days or Risk 2026 World Cup Ban

The U.S. has ordered the DR Congo national football team to quarantine for 21 days before the 2026 World Cup or face a potential ban from competing, citing an Ebola outbreak in the country.

23 May Khaosod

The United States has mandated that the Democratic Republic of Congo's national football team undergo a strict 21-day quarantine, or face potential denial of entry to compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following an Ebola outbreak in the country. Andrew Giuliani, director of the White House's task force for the World Cup, confirmed that the DR Congo team must isolate for 21 days or risk being barred from traveling to the United States for the tournament. The DR Congo is one of several countries currently battling the Bundibugyo ebolavirus strain. Before the World Cup begins, the DR Congo team is scheduled to train and play two friendlies in Belgium, with the U.S. requiring the quarantine to take place there. Giuliani stated, "We have informed DR Congo that they should implement strict 21-day quarantine measures before traveling to the United States on June 11, otherwise they risk not being permitted entry into our country." All of the DR Congo team's players and coaches reside outside the country, with most players based in France, though some team staff members who live domestically have already left the country.

Gunshots Ring Out in Raman as Gunman on Motorcycle Shoots Former Ranger Dead While Heading to See His Wife

A 55-year-old former ranger was shot dead by a gunman on a motorcycle in Raman, Yala, while traveling to visit his wife; police are investigating whether personal disputes or border unrest connections motivated the attack.

22 May Khaosod

A gunman on a motorcycle ambushed and shot a former ranger to death on a street at the Yala-Narathiwat border as the victim was traveling to see his wife. Police are intensifying their investigation and have not ruled out either personal disputes or connections to southern border unrest as motives.

At 9 PM on May 22, 2569, the Takuapa Police Station radio center in Yala received a report from the Takuapa subdistrict headman about a shooting incident that claimed a life on a road in Moo 1, Takuapa Subdistrict, Raman District, Yala Province, which borders Baan Taya in Suvari Subdistrict, Rue Sao District, Narathiwat Province. Major Niphorn Insuwon, the chief protective escort officer, immediately led police, rangers, and local administration to the scene with emergency rescue teams from Takuapa Subdistrict Administrative Organization and Ikwah Raman rescue units.

At the scene, authorities found a black Honda Wave 125 motorcycle with Narathiwat license plates lying on the roadside. Nearby, they discovered the body of Ismaae, 55, a former ranger with the 47th Ranger Regiment stationed in Raman District, Yala Province. The victim was lying face down, wearing a black jacket and light purple sarong, with gunshot wounds from an unknown caliber handgun that struck his head and neck area—five shots total.

Initial investigation reveals that before the incident, Ismaae left his residence on his motorcycle heading to see his wife. When he reached the deserted location where the shooting occurred, a gunman on a motorcycle pulled up alongside him, drew a firearm, and shot him multiple times before fleeing the scene.

Investigators are examining two preliminary theories: personal conflict or potential links to southern border unrest. Authorities are urgently pursuing leads to apprehend the gunman and pursue legal charges.
