Climate Change Department Partners with PTT to Advance Research and Innovation in Climate Technology
Thailand's Climate Change Department and PTT announced a partnership to advance climate technology research and innovation, focusing on carbon capture, hydrogen development, and net-zero emissions strategies. The collaboration will combine
On May 6, the Department of Climate Change and Environment (DCCE), represented by Director-General Dr. Pirun Saiyasitthipanich, Deputy Director-General Pawit Kesavong, and Deputy Director-General Gomesh Boothsorn, met with PTT Public Company Limited, led by Executive Vice President for Corporate Sustainability Rathakorn Kampanatkanaiyakorn, to hold the first 2025 session of the working group on research, innovation, and development of climate change technology support mechanisms.
The meeting was conducted under a memorandum of understanding between the DCCE and PTT aimed at demonstrating the joint commitment of both agencies to exchange information and knowledge, promote research and innovation collaboration, and develop mechanisms supporting climate change-related technologies, including carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS/CCUS), hydrogen technology, and other related technologies. The effort also focuses on developing related policies, mechanisms, and legal frameworks to provide a clear foundation for driving the country's greenhouse gas emissions reduction, ultimately achieving net zero emissions and transitioning to a low-carbon society.
During the meeting, the working group secretariat reported progress and outcomes from 2024 collaboration, including policy discussions on elevating legal frameworks for CCS/CCUS technology application to support Thailand's NDC 3.0, and studying the carbon dioxide impact on Thailand's ecosystems. The group also discussed linking heat index measurement tools with digital platforms.
For 2025, the working group established a framework where PTT will provide technical expertise, knowledge, and research to support CCS/CCUS technology application in Thailand, while the DCCE will drive policy implementation. Both agencies plan to exchange knowledge on climate technology and establish effective public-private cooperation to achieve tangible results.
