He claimed the C-4 devices were prepared for a suicide attempt due to depression, stating he had lived in Thailand for four years, previously operated a Chinese restaurant in Cambodia, and had dated a Thai woman before breaking up.

Phone records revealed videos of Ming test-firing weapons and using live chickens as target practice, along with footage of grenade detonation tests in water bodies and military weapons training—all allegedly conducted in Cambodia.
