The Phatthalung Governor has ordered an urgent investigation committee into a subdistrict chief's actions, viewing the incident as highly inappropriate. Police report that on the evening of April 25, the mother, aunt, and nephew of a 28-year-old man from Lam Sinthe Subdistrict filed a complaint after the subdistrict chief allegedly dragged the young man from his home while sleeping, handcuffed him, tied him to a mango tree, slapped him twice until his eyes were bruised, kicked him once, and then used red ants—knocking them on his head three times and placing one nest beside him—while the man suffered for over four hours. The subdistrict chief claimed CCTV footage showed the young man had stolen beetles from a local resident's collection despite warnings, but the victim endured the torture without the chief removing the handcuffs until relatives sought help from Sri Nakharin Police Station. The victim's body bore ant bite marks throughout, and claw marks were visible at the base of the mango tree where he had struggled in pain. On April 27, 2025, Phatthalung Governor Suchin Wajkij announced he had received the report from Sri Nakharin District and ordered the investigation be completed within 15 days instead of the standard 30, with results to be reported to the relevant ministry. The governor emphasized that all officials, whether subdistrict chiefs or other civil servants, must operate within the framework of law and cannot act outside it under any circumstances. Regarding the incident of binding and handcuffing with red ants applied to the head, the governor stated this was clearly inappropriate and improper. An investigation committee has been established with orders to expedite the fact-finding process as the case has drawn public and provincial attention. Sri Nakharin Police Station Commander Maj. Natthaphak Nuaidod stated that investigators are gathering evidence to proceed against the subdistrict chief for exceeding his authority as alleged by the victim, requiring multiple witness interviews from the scene to ensure fairness to both parties according to law, with no bias toward either side. The commander added that regarding theft issues, such matters have proper legal channels for resolution.

On April 27, 2025, Suchart Chomklin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, presided over the Pollution Control Department's (PCD) 34th anniversary celebration and presented the 'Environmental Protector' award to individuals with outstanding environmental conservation records.

Established on April 4, 1992 under the National Environmental Quality Promotion and Maintenance Act, the PCD's key responsibilities include setting environmental standards, proposing policies and measures, monitoring environmental quality, enforcing laws, managing pollution emergencies, and handling public complaints.

Over three decades, the PCD has continuously evolved by integrating technology and innovation, including environmental quality databases, real-time monitoring systems, water and air quality forecasting systems, environmental alert applications, and artificial intelligence applications for public communication and education.

Suchart commended PCD personnel as vital forces in advancing Thailand's environmental work through their expertise and dedication to natural resource protection. He honored recipients of the 'Environmental Protector' award as exemplars of sacrifice and the power of workers creating positive social change.

"The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is ready to support the PCD and all sectors in integrated collaboration under principles of participation and shared responsibility to elevate Thailand's environmental quality and pass on healthy natural resources to future generations," Suchart concluded.

Thai rowers also impressively defeated the host Chinese team in the men's 200-meter 10-oar boat event, while securing multiple silver and bronze medals.

"We must congratulate our athletes for successfully winning medals, especially in track and field events that are highlights of the competition in sprinting and relay races," Dr. Kong Sak said. "However, we believe many other sports will perform well in the second half of the games. We need to encourage our athletes until the final day of competition."

The SAT director acknowledged that while the 15 gold medal target remains, it's regrettable that some sports fell short. He recognized that athletes from many Asian nations have developed significantly and become much stronger. The Asian Beach Games is no longer an easy competition, and the outcome won't be clear until the final day, as several sports still offer medal opportunities, including Takraw, where Thailand has world-champion level athletes.

"Thai athletes participating in this Asian Beach Games will gain invaluable experience, and the budget invested by the SAT in training preparations is worthwhile. Beyond elevating athletes' standards to compete at the Asian level, they witness firsthand the skills of their competitors—a tremendous benefit as they aim toward the Asian Games and Olympics," the SAT director said.

The 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya runs from April 22-30, 2025, featuring 14 sports: beach track and field, aquatic sports (marathon swimming and water polo), 3x3 basketball, beach handball, beach soccer, beach volleyball, dragon boat racing, sport climbing, beach wrestling, judo, kabaddi, sailing (windsurfing and kiteboarding), triathlon (aquathlon combining swimming and running), and takraw. Around 1:30 AM on April 27, acting on orders from senior police officials, Bang Rak Police Station officers arrested Kattiya, 19, and Thiraphad, 19, along with two firearms recovered from a Surawong area apartment in Bangkok's Bang Rak district.

Police responded after receiving reports from residents about a group of teenagers engaged in a loud altercation involving gunfire near a building on Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra Road. Officers immediately rushed to the scene, gathered descriptions from nearby residents, and learned that the suspects had fled into the building's parking area.

After surrounding the building exits, officers encountered a female suspect matching the description. She cooperated with police and identified herself, allowing them to conduct a search of her apartment.

Inside the 33rd-floor room, officers found both male suspects and discovered two firearms—one on the balcony and another hidden in the bathroom ceiling. The suspects admitted ownership of the weapons.

Both suspects were charged with illegal possession of firearms without a license and carrying firearms in public areas without authorization. They were taken into custody and transferred to Bang Rak Police Station for further legal proceedings.
