Anutin Holds Three-Way Talks in Philippines with Hun Manet to Advance Peace Based on Dialogue and Trust
Thai PM Anutin met with Cambodia's Hun Manet and Philippine President Marcos in Cebu to advance peace talks, with both countries agreeing to develop confidence-building measures through their foreign ministers.
At 6 p.m. Philippine time on May 7, 2026, at the Shangri-La Mactan hotel in Cebu, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul participated in a three-way meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., with the Philippines chairing the discussion as ASEAN Chair to address the Thai-Cambodian situation.
Following the talks, the prime ministers issued statements in alphabetical order. Anutin thanked the Philippine president for initiating this important meeting and revealed that his discussion with the Cambodian prime minister was constructive and forward-focused, characterized by frank and meaningful dialogue that reaffirmed both nations' commitment to negotiation and peace.
Anutin emphasized that Thailand and Cambodia are closely connected neighbors across multiple dimensions, noting that conflict brings loss and suffering to all parties and underscores the value of peace. He stated it was time for both countries to move forward together and open a new chapter in their relationship, requiring sincerity, integrity, and shared commitment to overcome challenges.
During the meeting, Thailand and Cambodia agreed to task their foreign ministers with developing practical confidence-building measures, starting with areas of mutual agreement that can be implemented immediately. These measures will serve as a crucial mechanism for rebuilding trust and gradually strengthening bilateral relations.
Anutin stressed that Thailand and Cambodia must proceed gradually but steadily in the same direction, with increased direct communication at all levels to reduce misunderstandings and explore expanded cooperation in mutually beneficial sectors. Regarding land and maritime border issues, he proposed a framework for discussion based on good neighborliness.
The prime minister concluded that today's meeting represents an important step toward creating an atmosphere conducive to peace and regional cooperation, affirming Thailand's readiness to work constructively with all parties based on mutual understanding, respect, and the shared interests of both nations and the broader region.
