Renowned Japanese Baseball Team Manager Resigns After Arrest for Assaulting His Daughter
Shinnosuke Abe, manager of Japan's Yomiuri Giants baseball team, resigned after his arrest for physically assaulting his 18-year-old daughter during a quarrel at his Tokyo home on May 25.
Shinnosuke Abe has resigned as manager of the Yomiuri Giants, a prestigious team in Japan's professional baseball league, following his arrest on charges of physically assaulting his 18-year-old daughter at home. The 47-year-old former baseball legend, who played for 19 years and won eight league championships before becoming manager, was arrested at his residence in Shibuya on May 25 and confessed to the allegations. According to Tokyo Metropolitan Police, his daughter sustained no injuries from the incident.
Abe told police that he pushed his 18-year-old daughter down after they quarreled, stating that he was intoxicated at the time. The incident began when Abe told his daughter to be quiet, but she talked back to him, which angered him greatly.
A child consultation hotline received an emergency call after 7 p.m. reporting that the daughter had been assaulted by her father. According to sources, the daughter made the report after consulting ChatGPT, and Tokyo police had no prior reports or inquiries about Abe.
Following his arrest, Abe told police officers that he became angry when his eldest daughter talked back after he told her to be quiet. Police also noted that he showed remorse for his actions.
Tou Kunimmatsu, the team's chairman and CEO, released a statement saying: "We cannot tolerate violence, so we take this matter very seriously. We apologize to all fans and everyone involved in professional baseball."
However, the daughter confirmed in a letter to the media that she had not been punched or kicked and that she has since reconciled with her father. She also stated that she does not want this matter to be made into a big issue.
