12h ago Khaosod

In response to the major accident on May 16, 2026 at the Makkasan level crossing in Bangkok involving a freight train and Route 206 air-conditioned bus, the official forensic center has confirmed the identity of the final victim through DNA comparison. The deceased is 34-year-old Thai woman "Elle" (Suphaphorn), whose identification has renewed expressions of collective mourning throughout Thai society.

A tragic life story marked by fate:

Her hometown's pride (former pageant champion): Elle was born and raised in a modest family in Phrao District, Chiang Mai Province. Known for her striking appearance and gentle nature, she won the title of "Jasmine Rice Princess of Phrao District" at a local annual pageant and was deeply beloved in her community.

A dutiful daughter who came to Bangkok to build a future: After graduating, Elle made the difficult decision to become a "Bangkok drifter," working hard to improve her family's living conditions. She worked diligently at renowned cosmetic and beauty clinics along Srinakarin Road in Bangkok, serving as the family's financial pillar and hope.

The final call before the tragedy: Her family revealed that on the day of the accident, Elle's father had their routine phone conversation with her, during which she mentioned she was heading out to look for a new apartment to prepare for a new job starting just days later. After the call ended, she lost contact completely. It wasn't until her family saw news coverage of the bus collision and resulting fire that they feared the worst.

DNA confirmation of the tragic outcome: Due to the intense fire at the accident scene, some victims' remains were severely damaged and unidentifiable. Elle's parents, heartbroken, rushed overnight from Chiang Mai to Bangkok to provide DNA samples for forensic comparison. The DNA report ultimately confirmed that Elle was the final victim identified in this tragedy, devastating her entire family.

GCAP GOLD Eyes New Fed Chair Kevin Warsh as Pivotal Monetary Policy Shift, Gold Poised for $4,600 Rebound

New Fed chair Kevin Warsh's monetary policy approach could shift U.S. dollar and interest rate dynamics, with gold analysts eyeing a potential rebound to $4,600 if key support levels hold.

12h ago Khaosod

GCAP GOLD identifies Kevin Warsh, the incoming Federal Reserve chairman, as a key variable in shifting U.S. monetary policy, with analysts watching for a gold rebound toward $4,600. Areeratchai Murachay, chief analyst at GCAP Gold, reveals that Warsh's appointment may represent a significant turning point in U.S. monetary policy and is another factor global gold markets must monitor closely. Amid persistent high inflation, geopolitical risks in the Middle East, and political pressures before U.S. midterm elections, these factors directly impact the trajectory of the U.S. dollar, Treasury bond yields, and gold prices. "Warsh's assumption of the Fed chairmanship raises questions about how well he can maintain the Fed's independence in monetary policy, especially given President Donald Trump's continued signals favoring quick interest rate cuts to stimulate an economy showing signs of slowdown." Energy costs remain elevated due to tensions with Iran, prompting markets to lower expectations for rate cuts this year and instead focus on the possibility that the Fed may need to return to tighter monetary policy if inflation accelerates. If Warsh pursues a stricter policy than expected, it could support the U.S. dollar and Treasury yields while pressuring gold prices in the near term. Additionally, Warsh has signaled support for reducing the Fed's balance sheet, currently valued at approximately $6.7 trillion, and may scale back forward guidance communications such as quarterly interest rate projections (Dot Plot), changes that could increase volatility in global financial markets during this policy transition. For investment strategy, analysts note that gold prices are entering a critical juncture determining whether they will recover or decline further. Key support lies at $4,480 (approximately 69,400 +/- baht for Thai gold); if this level holds, there is potential for a rebound testing resistance around $4,600 and $4,640 (approximately 70,900–71,600 baht). If $4,480 breaks, selling pressure could push prices to the $4,430–$4,400 zone (approximately 69,000–68,700 baht). Therefore, analysts recommend gradually accumulating gold at support levels to capitalize on rebound opportunities.

Motorcycle Nearly Hits Ambulance Refusing to Yield While Rushing Cancer Patient with Respiratory Distress to Hospital

A teenage motorcyclist nearly collided with an ambulance transporting a critically ill cancer patient to a hospital in Ayutthaya on May 21, after refusing to yield despite the vehicle's activated sirens and warning lights.

12h ago Khaosod

On May 22, 2569, officers from the Ayutthaya Ruamjai Association posted dashcam and eyewitness video of a harrowing moment as rescue personnel were transporting a patient to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital with sirens blaring and warning lights activated. As the ambulance was turning into the hospital entrance with rescue staff on motorcycles blocking traffic to facilitate the turn, a teenage rider suddenly cut across the ambulance's path at speed, nearly colliding with the emergency vehicle. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on May 21.

Chaiyanrong Tangon, 28, a rescue officer with Ayutthaya rescue unit, revealed the frightening incident occurred while he was urgently transporting a 70-year-old woman with a history of cancer suffering from abdominal rigidity and severe respiratory distress to the hospital. During the operation, the team activated emergency lights with two additional rescue officers on motorcycles leading the way to clear traffic at intersections. Most vehicles cooperated, but as the ambulance approached Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital's entrance and began turning in, a teenage motorcyclist came speeding toward them in the opposite direction without stopping. The ambulance narrowly avoided collision when the driver braked in time, preventing an accident.

Chaiyanrong urged all road users to remember that when encountering ambulances, rescue vehicles, or emergency vehicles with lights and sirens activated, someone's life may be at stake. Slowing down, stopping, or yielding not only gets patients to medical care faster but also prevents secondary accidents during emergency response operations.

Famous 1990s Actor's Mischievous Child Breaks Restaurant Glass, Denies Calls About Damage—Hints Suggest It's Not Navin

A famous 1990s actor faces backlash after his young child broke a restaurant window, causing over 10,000 baht in damage; the actor has ignored calls about compensation.

12h ago Khaosod

A famous 1990s actor has drawn criticism after his mischievous child broke a restaurant window, with the establishment demanding over ten thousand baht in damages. The actor subsequently went silent, refusing to answer calls or messages. After checking security footage, the restaurant owner initially communicated cordially with the actor, but communication ceased once the damage claim was presented.

A prominent social media page, "Auntie Next Door," weighed in with clues about the actor's identity, stating: "I've investigated using third-person sources. The keyword is a famous 1990s actor everyone recognizes. I've figured out who it is—he has children. From what I've learned, he was once a leading actor, though he focused on evening dramas. He still qualifies as a leading man. Here's another hint: he has two children."

The page confirmed the actor is not Navin Thamsatchanan, noting the actual person had shifted away from acting toward other pursuits that proved more successful. The page emphasized that while the actor's identity isn't Navin, only someone with star power and successful acting credentials would match the profile. The page's administrator advised the actor to promptly reach out to the restaurant to resolve the matter amicably, noting the child is likely under five and young children's mischief is understandable, but property damage must be addressed responsibly. Both parties should present clear evidence to find an amicable resolution without legal action.

Akkanat revealed that the incident has affected public confidence and confirmed with the investigation director and officers that the case will be handled fairly with no interference or intimidation of the victim. "As a representative of the people in this area, I assure the victim that she will receive justice. The offender must face both disciplinary and criminal penalties. No one is above the law," Akkanat stated.

Akkanat emphasized that the case examination must be based on facts, that wrongs must be treated as wrongs, and that justice must be protected. He assured that all citizens, not just Kanchanaburi residents, should not have their rights violated in such a manner.

Regarding the accused officer's denial, Akkanat noted that it is the police's responsibility to gather evidence, particularly CCTV footage from multiple angles, which can clearly establish the facts. "If we find actual wrongdoing and the accused still refuses to take responsibility, decisive action must be taken with no exceptions," Akkanat said.
