An age-gap romance turned drama after a 40-year-old woman from Shandong Province, China decided to marry her close friend's son, who is 11 years younger, sparking heated online debate about the relationship.

According to reports, the woman had previously gone through a divorce after discovering her ex-husband's infidelity. She then dedicated herself to building a stable life running a clothing business. She had also maintained a long friendship with a local woman in her city.

The Office of Trade and Investment Policy (OTIP) released a report titled 'Influencer Economy: From Content to Digital Commerce,' revealing that Thailand's influencer market was valued at 450 billion baht in 2024 with projected continuous annual growth of 15-20%. Currently, there are approximately 3 million influencers in Thailand, representing roughly one-third of the total digital advertising market value. A major concern is Thailand's 66% dependence on TikTok, prompting recommendations for the government to urgently establish standards, develop workforce skills, and expand market opportunities both domestically and internationally.

Nanthaphong Jiralesspong, Director of the Office of Trade and Investment Policy under the Ministry of Commerce, explained that OTIP recognizes the importance of influencers in shaping follower behavior and generating economic value, leading to the creation of this comprehensive report examining influencer economics and marketing at both global and Thai levels, along with policy recommendations from various countries and strategies to promote Thailand's influencer economy.

According to the report, an influencer is defined as a content creator who produces and distributes material on social media platforms, wielding influence over followers' attitudes, perceptions, and purchasing decisions. The influencer economy comprises five key components: influencers, online platforms, businesses/brands/entrepreneurs, revenue-generating tools and transactions, and followers/consumers.

The global influencer economy continues to show strong growth momentum. Market research firm Introspective Market Research reported that the global influencer economy was valued at 43.9 billion US dollars in 2023, with projections of averaging 33.9% annual growth through 2032, potentially reaching 607 billion US dollars by that year. Global influencer marketing alone was valued at 32.6 billion US dollars in 2024, with anticipated continued growth at an average rate of 51.90% annually through 2032. Currently, approximately 127 million social media users worldwide operate as influencers, with artificial intelligence development identified as a key factor enabling market expansion by reducing entry barriers and facilitating creative content production.

OTIP's study of influencer economy promotion strategies in three countries—China, the United States, and South Korea—found that influencer marketing values continue to expand significantly in each nation with large influencer populations. However, each country implements different policies and measures regarding the influencer economy, including digital economic promotion, online content regulation, consumer protection, and personal data privacy. China, for instance, has issued regulations governing its online content ecosystem requiring content creators, service users, and platforms to collectively assume responsibility for online content quality, while also implementing influencer control policies to prevent the spread of false information.

On May 14, Nippon Bunyamani, former permanent secretary of the Ministry of Interior, along with executives from Siam International Food, a leading Thai pet wet food manufacturer, expanded their international market presence by exhibiting at Interzoo 2026, seeking to establish business partnerships and penetrate premium international markets in Nuremberg, Germany.

Interzoo 2026 runs from May 12–15 at Messe Nuremberg exhibition center and is the world's largest pet industry trade show, held biennially. This year features over 2,350 exhibitors from 70 countries across an area exceeding 150,000 square meters, attracting visitors from more than 140 countries worldwide.

Notably, this marks the first time in history that Thailand has its own pavilion at this event, reflecting international recognition of Thailand's pet industry potential.

Thailand has risen to become the world's second-largest exporter of dog and cat food in 2024, second only to Germany, with export value exceeding $2.677 billion, representing a 29 percent increase compared to the previous year. Key markets include the United States, Japan, Australia, Italy, and Malaysia.

The global pet industry continues steady growth, driven by increasing pet ownership trends among younger generations and seniors, combined with growing consumer focus on pet health that pushes demand for premium products. Thailand's pet food exports are projected to reach $3.1 billion in 2025, with potential to claim the world's number one position in the near future.

NONTHABURI — May 14, 2026. Thai immigration police have arrested a Nigerian man accused of overstaying his visa for nearly three years after he allegedly remained in the country to live with his Thai girlfriend, authorities said.

The 29-year-old man was detained at a condominium in Nonthaburi province following a tip-off received through the Immigration Bureau's hotline, police said.

Investigators from Nonthaburi Immigration Police searched the condominium on Bangkok-Nonthaburi Road and found the suspect living on the 17th floor of the building.

Authorities said he entered Thailand on April 13, 2023 on a tourist visa during the Songkran holiday festival and repeatedly extended his stay. His most recent visa extension expired on June 6, 2024, after which he remained in the country illegally for 1,069 days, police said.

During questioning, the suspect told officers he travelled to Thailand to attend Songkran celebrations in Bangkok and later began a relationship with a Thai woman.

Police said he attempted to obtain a student visa through an educational institution in Nakhon Ratchasima province, but the application was rejected. He later continued extending his tourist visa before eventually overstaying.

The suspect reportedly told investigators he was unemployed and financially supported by his girlfriend.

Immigration officers charged him with remaining in Thailand after his permission to stay had expired, in violation of Thailand's Immigration Act. He was transferred to Muang Nonthaburi police station for further legal proceedings.

SA KAEO — On May 15, 2026, Thai livestock and security officials seized 43 cattle suspected of being smuggled toward the Cambodian border during a patrol operation in eastern Thailand.

The operation was led by Sa Kaeo Animal Quarantine Station chief Suphot Sangka and included livestock officials, border security forces, and Border Patrol Police.

Authorities said officers discovered a group of men herding two mixed-sex beef cattle herds near Ban Saeng village in Ta Phraya district, close to the Thai-Cambodian border.

When officials moved in to inspect the animals, the men fled into nearby forests and escaped. A subsequent search uncovered two separate groups of cattle—one with 13 animals and another with 30—totaling 43 head.

Because the cattle's origin could not be verified and authorities were concerned about potential disease transmission, the animals were transferred to the Sa Kaeo Animal Quarantine Station in Ta Phraya district.

Samples were collected for laboratory testing, and a police report was filed at Thap Thai police station.

If no infectious diseases are found and no owner comes forward to claim the cattle, the animals will be auctioned according to government regulations.
