11h ago Khaosod

On May 26, 2569, the Geological Disaster Operations Center of the Department of Mineral Resources, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, issued an alert warning of landslide and flash flood risks over the next 2-3 days.

Volunteers and residents in five provinces—Phang Nga, Ranong, Krabi, Phuket, and Satun—are urged to remain vigilant for landslides and flash floods between May 26-28, 2569, particularly in the following areas:

Phang Nga Province: Kuraburi, Kapong, Takua Pa, Takua Thung, Thai Muang districts Ranong Province: Muang, Kapuri, Kapar, La-un, Suksamran districts Krabi Province: Muang, Khao Phanom, Khlong Thom, Ko Lanta districts Phuket Province: Muang, Kathu, Thalang districts Satun Province: Khuan Kalong, Thung Wa, Manang districts

The warning is due to continuous heavy rainfall measuring more than 100 millimeters in 24 hours, combined with accumulated rainfall over several days and flash flooding already occurring in some areas, which could trigger landslides.

Network volunteers are requested to maintain vigilance, continuously monitor rainfall levels, and be prepared to alert residents and relevant agencies of any landslide or flash flood incidents, following established warning protocols.

Tense Verdict Looms: Court to Rule on 12 Senior NACC Officials in 'Uncle Bom' Luxury Watch Cover-Up Case

A Bangkok court will rule May 27 on whether 12 senior NACC officials concealed documents about ex-Deputy PM Prawit's luxury watch, with the plaintiff selectively withdrawing charges against some defendants and facing potential malicious pro

11h ago Khaosod

The Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct, Division 1, will deliver its verdict on May 27, 2025, in a case brought by Veera Somkhwamkit, secretary-general of the People's Anti-Corruption Network (PANCN), against NACC Secretary-General Nivatvichhai Kasemmongkol (defendant 1) and former NACC Secretary-General Voravit Sukboon (defendant 2), along with 10 other defendants. The 12 defendants in total are: Nivatvichhai Kasemmongkol, Voravit Sukboon, Pol. Gen. Watcharapol Prasartrajkij, Precha Lertkomlamats, Pol. Gen. Sataporn Luawthong, Nrong Ratamurit, Supha Piyajitti, Wittaya Akampitaksa, Suvanna Suwannjuta, Pol. Gen. Bunvawat Kruahahngsong, Natchakra Patmasing na Ayutthaya, and Suchat Trakulkaemsukhit.

All 12 defendants are accused of concealing documents related to Pol. Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan's luxury watch during his period as Deputy Prime Minister. The court has accepted the case (Case No. 95/2567 Black) with a verdict hearing set for May 27.

According to reports, Veera has progressively withdrawn charges against multiple defendants after discovering new facts. Two defendants—Suchat Trakulkaemsukhit and Suvanna Suwannjuta—voted in the minority on December 6, 2566, in favor of full disclosure of the watch investigation documents to Veera, with only names of involved officials redacted. However, Veera did not withdraw charges against them, leading the court to dismiss charges against both. Veera has also withdrawn charges against defendants such as Natchakra and Precha, though the court has not permitted withdrawal against Supha Piyajitti and Pol. Gen. Watcharapol Prasartrajkij.

Reports suggest Veera's prosecution may constitute abuse of legal process, as the filing coincided with the selection of a new NACC president. During preliminary hearings, it became clear that Suchat and Suvanna did not commit the alleged offenses, as their lawyers presented meeting minutes showing their minority vote in favor of disclosure. Despite this evidence, Veera refused to withdraw charges until the court dismissed them.

Observers note the pattern of Veera selectively withdrawing charges against some defendants while the court rejected others raises questions about his motives. Sources suggest that if the court issues a final verdict, some defendants plan to immediately sue Veera for malicious prosecution, viewing his actions as a targeted vendetta that caused damage to their reputations.

Anucha Unveils 5-Point Policy Platform to Challenge Bangkok Governor, Says Voters Look Beyond Polls

Anucha Unveils 5-Point Policy Platform to Challenge Bangkok Governor, Says Voters Look Beyond Polls

May 26, 2026 – At the Democratic Party headquarters, Anucha Burapachayasri, the party's candidate for Bangkok governor, unveiled his policy platform and development strategy for Bangkok under the 'City of Angels... and More' campaign.

Anucha stated that after consulting with residents across all 50 Bangkok districts, he observed that living conditions and economic circumstances vary significantly. Inner Bangkok faces one set of problems requiring different solutions, while outer Bangkok has distinct needs. Therefore, the party designed policies to be as comprehensive as possible, though it's impossible for any single policy to satisfy everyone. This is why the Democratic Party is fielding candidates in all 50 districts.

After extensive discussions identifying problems and viable solutions for Bangkok residents, the Democratic Party is introducing a five-point policy framework under the 'And More' concept:

1. Convenient Transportation: Push for Bangkok's bus system (BMTA) to be placed under Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) control to create unified route planning. Introduce electric shuttle buses (EV) into the main transport system. Use AI to identify high-traffic routes and revitalize water transportation with electric boats. Coordinate with government and private sectors to implement an integrated ticketing system.

2. Clean City: Overhaul waste management by converting major disposal centers like Onnuch, Nong Khamen, and Sai Mai into 100% closed systems. Promote waste-to-energy technology and reduce landfill reliance. Decentralize waste management facilities to northern and eastern zones to reduce transport time and pollution. Enforce laws against black-smoke vehicles and control dust from construction sites.

3. Physical and Mental Well-being: Increase elderly care facilities to support an aging population with expedited healthcare. Repurpose unused BMA land for art spaces, community parks, sports facilities, and public gardens.

4. Increased Income: Generate more revenue for Bangkok's development, such as collecting hotel taxes from foreign tourists. Create employment programs across all age groups, particularly allowing retirees to work as volunteers to earn supplementary income.

5. Transparency: Use a civic monitoring application to oversee BMA operations and investigate all business activities, forwarding findings to relevant authorities. A democratic Bangkok government won't avoid accountability but will actively address all problems.

Anucha concluded that with 30 days remaining, he will continue presenting beneficial initiatives. While he cannot predict whether Bangkok residents will trust him—as different polls show different results—he believes voters consider candidates' commitment, their qualifications, and their policies, not just poll numbers.

Phuket residents at wit's end as fly swarms reach plague proportions, making daily life nearly impossible

Massive fly swarms are plaguing two Phuket communities, contaminating food and forcing restaurants to close as residents fear disease outbreaks. Authorities are urging hygiene precautions while locals demand urgent intervention from provinc

11h ago Khaosod

On May 26, residents of Saphan Hin and Bo Kaew communities in Wichit Subdistrict, Phuket City reported a severe fly infestation that has created serious hardships for locals and business owners. Flies are swarming throughout the community—inside homes, restaurants, markets, and public areas—significantly impacting daily life, sanitation, and quality of life.

Local residents report that many restaurants and shops are suffering as flies contaminate food, causing customers to avoid the establishments. Some families can no longer eat normally inside their homes. Children, the elderly, and schools in the area have been directly affected, raising health concerns. Residents are particularly worried about diseases carried by flies, including diarrhea, food poisoning, and gastrointestinal infections from contaminated food—risks that are especially high for children and elderly people.

Authorities have advised residents to exercise heightened hygiene precautions, such as avoiding exposed food, tightly sealing food and water containers, washing hands before meals, and maintaining clean surroundings and trash bins. Anyone experiencing diarrhea, vomiting, or fever should seek medical attention immediately.

Residents are urging the provincial governor, local government organizations, public health officials, and all relevant agencies to investigate the cause and implement emergency measures to control the fly infestation in Wichit Subdistrict before the situation worsens and spreads more widely.

Ministry of Public Health Escalates Ebola Alert, Orders Mandatory 21-Day Quarantine for All Travelers from Congo and Uganda Entering Thailand, Effective Immediately

Thailand's Ministry of Public Health has implemented mandatory 21-day quarantine for all travelers from Congo and Uganda effective immediately, citing escalating Ebola risks and poor compliance with previous self-reporting protocols.

11h ago Khaosod

On May 26, 2025, Dr. Somruk Chrusaman, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health and chair of the National Communicable Disease Committee's third meeting of 2025, announced the escalation following reports of worsening Ebola conditions in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. While Thailand maintains surveillance measures, health officials warned that undetected cases entering the country and delayed diagnosis could lead to rapid spread domestically.

Currently, travelers from these two countries arrive via connecting flights, averaging 5-7 daily, with recent increases to 10-19 arrivals per day. The committee voted to upgrade monitoring from a 21-day self-reporting protocol to mandatory 21-day quarantine effective immediately for incoming flights. This decision follows concerns over non-compliance, with some travelers changing accommodations and switching hotels, complicating contact tracing efforts.

Under the new measure, all travelers from Congo and Uganda must enter 21-day quarantine upon arrival in Thailand, regardless of symptoms. The Department of Disease Control will provide initial quarantine facilities, including the Bamrasnaradura Institute. Government will cover costs for the first 72 hours due to lack of advance notice, after which travelers bear all expenses. Thai nationals will not be charged.

Regarding flight coordination and cost estimates, the ministry is coordinating with airlines on expense details. Only travelers directly from the two specified countries require quarantine; those merely transiting through other countries on the same flight do not. Currently, no travel ban exists, though the ministry will continuously reassess the situation. If conditions improve or arrivals decrease, measures may be adjusted accordingly. The escalation was deemed necessary as increasing numbers of travelers failed to cooperate with monitoring, making comprehensive tracking impossible.

Weight loss injections worth 2.13 million baht seized at SuvarnabhumiLegacyCustoms officers arrested a Chinese passenger at Suvarnabhumi Airport on May 23 after finding 137 packages of Tirzepatide, a diabetes and weight loss injection, that had allegedly not gone through customs procedures. The passenger had travelled from Bangladesh and was arrested after customs officers found the medicine had allegedly been brought into Thailand without proper procedures. The Customs Department said in a Facebook post that officers from the Suvarnabhumi Airport Passenger Control Customs Office seized the Tirzepatide packages from the Chinese passenger. Photo via The Customs Department A search found syringes containing Tirzepatide, with the seized goods valued at more than 2.13 million baht (around US$65,000). Tirzepatide is a medicine used to treat type 2 diabetes. It works on hormones that help regulate blood sugar and appetite, and can also be prescribed for weight loss. The case is considered an offence of importing goods into Thailand without completing customs procedures under Sections 242 and 252 of the Customs Act 2017. The passenger also faces offences under Sections 12 and 101 of the Drug Act 1967, as well as other related laws. Photo via The Customs Department In related news, as Thailand marked World Diabetes Day, the Public Health Ministry warned that 6.5 million Thais were at risk of diabetes, roughly 10% of the population. Health Minister Somsak Thepsutin urged Thais to adopt healthier habits, warning that 40% of people with diabetes were unaware of their condition. The minister said counting carbohydrates in daily meals could reduce the risk of diabetes and other chronic diseases. Thailand’s village health volunteer network also rolled out educational programmes on carb-counting methods, balanced diets with low-sugar fruits and vegetables, and regular exercise. The Department of Disease Control (DDC) advised those at risk to limit salty, oily, and sugary foods, avoid smoking and alcohol, and engage in at least 30 minutes of exercise per day. It also urged diabetics to manage stress and maintain positive relationships to support overall health. Former F1 driver Mika Salo denies being assaulted, suggests motorcycle license plate caused injury

Former F1 driver Mika Salo sustained a serious leg wound near Bangkok's Nana intersection on May 19 but denies being assaulted, suggesting it may have been caused by a motorcycle license plate fragment.

12h ago Khaosod

On May 26, 2569, Lumpini Police Station's Tourism Police invited 59-year-old Mika Salo, a Finnish former Formula 1 driver, to provide a statement regarding a serious leg injury sustained near Nana intersection on May 19, 2569, which police initially suspected was caused by a motorcycle. Salo told the media that on the day of the incident, while walking at Nana intersection, he felt no one attacking him. Only when a local resident informed him that his leg was bleeding did he seek medical attention. Medical staff mentioned his wound resembled a cut from a sharp object, but Salo believes it was an accident rather than an intentional assault because he felt nothing at the time and no property was stolen. Regarding the incident in Thailand, Salo expressed no concern or fear, stating he feels comfortable and considers Thailand one of the safest cities he has visited. He confirmed he is a genuine former F1 driver but is no longer a professional racer. He views the 28-stitch wound as minor—merely preventing him from swimming due to Thailand's hot climate. Lt. Col. Yoswee Chantawat, the investigating officer, stated the incident occurred at Nana intersection near Sukhumvit Road. The victim reported feeling nothing and only learned of the wound from a local resident. Police are checking CCTV footage in the area and gathering evidence, as no formal complaint was filed. The hospital has reported similar injuries to Thai nationals and foreigners caused by motorcycle license plate fragments, suggesting this is a plausible cause of Salo's injury.

Police Nab International Drug Gang, Seize 196 kg of Ice Near Guesthouse Just 1.2 km from District Office

Police seized 196 kg of methamphetamine from an abandoned pickup truck on a highway in Mukdahan Province after cracking down on an international drug gang smuggling narcotics from Laos across the Mekong River.

12h ago Khaosod

At approximately 2:00 a.m. on May 26, 2569, Commander Oroat Phutthaako of the Mekong River Police Station in Nakhon Phanom received intelligence about an international drug trafficking operation smuggling narcotics from Savannakhet, Laos across the Mekong River into the Huan Yai District area of Mukdahan Province for distribution deeper into Thailand using a four-door pickup truck. Officers immediately launched intensive patrols and surveillance operations along the river, riverbanks, and targeted overland routes. While patrolling Highway 3010 toward Highway 212 (Mukdahan-Tha Uthen), officers spotted a gray and black Toyota Vigo with Khon Kaen license plate parked with its engine running and lights dimmed along the roadside in a suspicious manner. Upon inspection, no driver or occupants were found in or near the vehicle. A search of the truck's interior revealed five large black sacks containing approximately 196 packages of crystal methamphetamine weighing around 196 kilograms. Officers seized all the drugs and the vehicle, bringing them to the station for detailed investigation while pursuing the suspects and network members involved. Notably, the operation demonstrated the audacity of the trafficking network—they chose a main highway near critical government facilities, with the pickup found parked just 1.2 kilometers from the Huan Yai District Office and police station, reflecting the brazen attitude of cross-border drug gangs operating without fear of legal consequences.
