Thai Airways Incident Personal Matter, Not Organizational

Thailand's tourism minister says a Thai Airways flight attendant's drug arrest is a personal matter unrelated to the airline's operations, but vows stricter screening of crew and departing passengers to boost traveler confidence.

5h ago Khaosod

Tourism Minister Surasak Phancharoenwrakul addressed the arrest of a Thai Airways hostess on drug charges, stating it represents individual employee misconduct rather than institutional failure. Speaking after a cabinet meeting on June 30, Suvarnabhumi Airport confirmed this is a personal matter, not an organizational one. Surasak emphasized that drug screening procedures for both incoming and outgoing passengers must be intensified.

He noted that enhancing tourist safety cannot be achieved by a single agency and requires integrated drug enforcement efforts. Building international tourist confidence in Thailand's commitment to safety is essential for the government, he said. The minister called for stricter crew screening for all airlines.

When asked whether the incident would damage Thai Airways or Thai tourists' international travel, Surasak insisted it will not, as this is a personal employee issue, not corporate misconduct. Airlines must strengthen crew vetting, he added.

Regarding Australia's ban of the airline a decade ago, Surasak reiterated that since the current incident is personal rather than organizational, there is no justification for organizational-level sanctions. The airline bears no responsibility for and had no knowledge of the employee's actions.

Tourists Book Shark-Surrounded Tower Hotel at 6,700 Baht Per Night

Adventurous tourists are booking stays at Frying Pan Tower, a converted lighthouse 50km off North Carolina's coast surrounded by sharks, at $200 per night with a three-night minimum. The viral accommodation, billed as the world's most dange

5h ago Khaosod

Experience the ultimate thrill at a tower hotel in the middle of the ocean surrounded by sharks, located 50 km from shore at 6,700 baht per night. Adventurous tourists are rushing to book stays, with a minimum three-night requirement starting June 30, 2026.

The viral tower accommodation, dubbed "the most dangerous hotel in the world," sits in the Atlantic Ocean 50 km offshore and is surrounded by sharks. Thrill-seeking visitors are willing to pay thousands of baht per night for the experience.

Frying Pan Tower is a steel lighthouse tower standing over 41 meters tall, a former U.S. Coast Guard navigation station off North Carolina's coast. A viral video of a captain ferrying six tourists to the accommodation has garnered over 2.2 million views.

The facility has welcomed guests since 2012, accommodating up to 12 people in 8 bedrooms at 200 US dollars or approximately 6,700 baht per person per night, with a minimum three-night stay requirement.

Despite its remote ocean location, the accommodation offers full amenities including stainless steel kitchens, washing machines, dryers, hot showers, high-speed solar-powered internet, and a reverse osmosis seawater filtration system for fresh water. Guests can also hire private chefs to prepare meals.

Activities for guests include fishing, snorkeling over coral reefs, golfing with fish-meal golf balls, watching sunrises, napping in hammocks, and stargazing on the helicopter landing pad.

However, guests must travel by boat or helicopter and ascend the 24-meter distance from sea level via a high-speed elevator in under one minute.

While many view this as an exceptional experience, many internet users have expressed safety concerns, particularly given the tower's location in hurricane alley where winds regularly exceed 160 kilometers per hour.

Medical emergencies would require waiting for a helicopter or boat taking dozens of minutes to arrive from shore. Many comments state "no amount of money would make me stay there," while others jokingly note "at least zombies can't reach it."

Aukus and Leng Unfazed by Love Destiny BL Remake

Actors August and Leng express excitement for the July 14 premiere of "Buppesunnivas: Love Destiny," a boys' love reimagining of the classic Thai period drama, praising director Nopphon for meticulous guidance on historical language, costum

5h ago Khaosod

Aukus Vachirwichit Paisalkulwong and Leng Thanapol U-sinrap are unfazed by the Boys' Love remake of the classic series "Buppesannivas" (Love Destiny), expressing confidence in director Phibhat's vision and asserting that excellent stories deserve multiple interpretations. The remake is set to air on July 14. Century UU Entertainment (Thailand) recently launched its CUU Thailand Line-Up 2026-2027, featuring three new series at Lido Connect Hall 1. Following the event, the two leads spoke with media about their feelings ahead of the premiere.

"We're almost on air and feeling excited because we haven't seen the finished product yet," Aukus said. After viewing the teaser, he added: "It looks good, and there are so many cute scenes we shot together."

Leng expressed similar enthusiasm: "I'm very excited and want to see the full episode. It'll be great watching it with everyone on July 14."

When asked about the filming experience, Leng noted this is his first period drama role. "I'll be showing audiences a new side of me in a period setting. The costumes, the way of life—it's all different from my usual contemporary roles. The dialogue and everything are period-appropriate, which makes it really interesting to follow."

Aukus highlighted the challenges of the period setting: "It's different for me because it's a period piece with different language and many other elements. Playing someone from an earlier era is completely new. I had to prepare extensively—learning to ride horses, handling swords, understanding the language. It's not something you can improvise; it requires memorization and understanding. We were fortunate to have director Phibhat, who directed the previous version, guiding us through the details to ensure each scene felt complete."

Leng praised the director's professionalism: "Director Phibhat is very clear about what he wants in each scene—the character's motivations and needs. He has a clear vision for himself and the story, which helps us align with his perspective. Working with such a professional crew feels like an honor."

When asked about the language difficulty, Aukus acknowledged: "It's challenging. We're modern people used to speaking simply for clarity, but period language has different phrases and structures that can't be improvised. We relied on Director Phibhat for these details."

Regarding how the story reflects Thai culture—with traditional costumes, food, and customs—Leng shared: "As a Thai person, I learned basic history in school, but being on set felt like truly understanding that era and seeing its charm from a new angle."

Aukus added: "You get to see the origins of things—like how banana chips or dried banana came to be—woven into the narrative itself."

Finnish Man Arrested Near Bangkok Airport in Tax Fraud Case

Thai Customs Bureau 3 arrested a 69-year-old Finnish national hiding near Suvarnabhumi Airport under an Interpol warrant for allegedly defrauding over 4 million baht in taxes and falsifying accounting documents.

5h ago Khaosod

On June 29, 2569, Pol. Lt. Gen. Songpruet Sirisuk, commander of Customs Investigation Bureau Region 3, led an operation with multiple officers to apprehend Jacob (surname withheld), a 69-year-old Finnish national wanted on an international arrest warrant.

Intelligence indicated the suspect had relocated from Chachoengsao province to a residential community near Suvarnabhumi Airport, where he maintained a highly secured residence. He blocked windows and viewing areas with boxes and materials, rarely left home, and ordered deliveries regularly. He was extremely cautious about opening doors to unfamiliar individuals.

Observations showed that whenever community staff attempted to trim branches near his home, the suspect would emerge to warn them about nearby electrical wires. Capitalizing on this pattern, officers devised a plan to pose as landscaping maintenance workers. When the suspect exited his house in response to the tree-trimming activity, officers revealed their identities, presented the international arrest warrant, and informed him of the revocation of his Thai residency.

The international warrant stems from charges of fraud, tax evasion, and falsification of accounting records involving amounts exceeding 4 million baht. Customs authorities have revoked his permission to reside in Thailand under Section 36 and are processing his deportation to his home country.

Thai Stimulus Program Could Boost Industrial GDP 1.3-1.6%

Thailand's "Thai Help Thai Plus" stimulus program is projected to boost industrial GDP by 1.3-1.6%, offsetting negative impacts from Middle East tensions, according to the Office of Industrial Economics.

5h ago Khaosod

Thailand's Industrial Economics Office (SEPO) Director Suphakij Bunsiri announced analysis showing the Thai Help Thai Plus program could support industrial sector GDP growth of approximately 1.3% if Middle East tensions persist, or 1.6% if the situation resolves. Key beneficiary industries include non-alcoholic beverages, food products, consumer goods, textiles, apparel, and packaging.

May's Manufacturing Production Index (MPI) registered 101.18, contracting 0.80% year-on-year, with production capacity utilization at 59.64%. The automotive industry led the decline with an 8.68% contraction due to weakening domestic and export markets, compounded by elevated inflation pressuring production costs and household purchasing power. Middle East tensions continue straining manufacturing costs, and industrial confidence declined to 84.7 from 85.3 the previous month.

However, government stimulus measures provide support, particularly the Thai Help Thai Plus program boosting consumer spending and purchasing power, expected to benefit consumer goods production and related industries. Industrial exports have expanded for 22 consecutive months, and returning foreign tourists support sectors including frozen prepared foods, frozen shrimp, canned fruits, and sneakers.

SEPO projects Thailand's June industrial outlook faces continued headwinds from slowing vehicle investment and reduced food and beverage sector orders due to rising packaging costs. Globally, major economies show manufacturing slowdowns amid Middle East conflict concerns, with Europe signaling caution and ASEAN facing rising energy costs. However, China's expanding exports may signal early world trade recovery signs. The office will monitor developments closely to support Thai industry adaptation and competitiveness.

Award-Winning Teacher Arrested for Sexual Abuse of Student

A teacher in Chiang Mai who had received a "outstanding teacher" award was arrested for sexually abusing a 13-year-old female student multiple times since she was in 8th grade, with the mother discovering the abuse through social media.

6h ago Khaosod

An award-winning disciplinary teacher at a prestigious Chiang Mai school has been arrested for sexually abusing a 13-year-old Grade 7 student on multiple occasions. The mother filed a complaint with the Pueena Hongsukul Foundation for Children and Women on June 25, stating that her 13-year-old daughter had been coerced by the 41-year-old teacher, who teaches social studies, repeatedly since late 2568 (2025). The alleged abuse occurred in the disciplinary office, the teacher's residential quarters on campus, and in the teacher's private vehicle. The teacher also allegedly forced the girl to take and send nude photographs via chat, with the most recent incident occurring on June 4 in the disciplinary office after school hours.

The mother discovered the abuse on June 18 when other students shared details on social media. She had been unaware of the situation as her daughter had been living with her father due to the mother's new family responsibilities. The traumatized girl confided in friends before the story spread online. Following the mother's report to Fang Police Station on June 18, police referred the child for medical examination. The girl is now experiencing depression and has expressed suicidal thoughts.

When the mother received calls from fellow teachers requesting reconciliation and attempting to mediate through the school superintendent, she refused and provided voice recordings to police. The Pueena Hongsukul Foundation coordinated with Chiang Mai Provincial Police Commander Maj. Gen. Yuthana Kaenjunchai and Fang Police Station Commander Pol. Lt. Col. Pradist Tibma to proceed with the investigation.

On June 30, police obtained a court arrest warrant. The teacher was apprehended and charged with rape of a child under 15, abduction of a child for indecent purposes, and related offenses. Police opposed bail, and the court rejected the request, citing flight risk and concerns about witness intimidation. The suspect was immediately remanded in custody.

6h ago Khaosod

On June 30, 2569, Wirojn Lakchanaadithorn, from the Pheu Thai administrative team, along with 22 prospective Bangkok Metropolitan Council members, announced their candidate for council president and transparency initiatives for Governor Chadchart's term. The party plans to prioritize two key ordinances: a construction site safety regulation requiring CCTV installation, insurance disclosure, and enhanced safety protocols; and a building control ordinance to standardize inspection of existing structures and address traffic issues in large establishments through public transportation zones.

Wirojn stated that additional measures include meeting transparency protocols, ensuring all council decisions and budget allocations are publicly disclosed. The party also plans to establish two special committees: one to address the medical referral system for Thai health card holders from primary to secondary and tertiary hospitals, and another to solve waste management issues, particularly in Prawet district.

For the 2570 annual budget review, Pheu Thai intends to use AI technology to screen all projects, inviting public participation in the audit process. The party believes the new council president must understand urban priorities and commit to transparency and efficiency. They propose supporting Pattraporn Kaengrungreuangchai, a prospective council member from Khlong Toei district, for the presidency.

Thailand Rejects Cambodia's Claim Over Preah Khan

Thailand's border coordination center rejected Cambodia's claim that Koh Kuna temple belongs entirely to Cambodia, insisting that sovereignty disputes must be resolved through bilateral mechanisms and international law, not unilateral state

6h ago Khaosod

On June 30, 2025, the Thailand-Cambodia Joint Information Committee (JIC) Director General Praphas Saonjai issued a statement refuting Cambodian officials' claims that Preah Khan temple belongs 100 percent to Cambodia and allegations that Thai forces occupied the area, altered the ancient monument, and damaged the temple stairway.

Thailand rejected such one-sided assertions as having no legal standing under international law. The JIC emphasized that border disputes with differing positions must be addressed through bilateral mechanisms mutually agreed upon by both nations, relying on legally binding evidence including treaties, historical documents, and previous border demarcation records—not unilateral map interpretations.

Director General Praphas stated that map references alone cannot determine sovereignty issues. Even if Cambodia claims that Preah Khan falls within Cambodian territory according to maps at scales of 1:200,000 or 1:50,000, these remain only one-sided assertions. Under international law, both Thailand and Cambodia must jointly conduct surveys and establish border markers through bilateral channels, making it impossible to conclude sovereignty status from single-sided map interpretations.

Regarding Cambodia's allegations that Thailand occupied the territory, Praphas said Thailand's security measures, area control, and monument preservation operations are conducted within areas Thailand considers under its control and consistent with joint statements by both countries. He denied accusations of territorial seizure.

On Cambodia's claim that Thailand burned or destroyed the temple stairway, the JIC director stated such accusations require verifiable evidence. Thailand is prepared to verify facts based on empirical evidence and cannot accept conclusions from one-sided claims.

Praphas reaffirmed that Thailand remains committed to resolving the Thai-Cambodian border dispute through bilateral mechanisms under international law and joint statements, prioritizing reduced tensions, avoiding provocations and use of force, and preventing escalation.

"The JIC calls on all parties to exercise care in public communications based on facts, avoiding information that could create misunderstandings or heighten tensions," Praphas said. "Thailand is ready to work constructively on the basis of international law, good faith, and good relations with neighboring countries to maintain lasting peace and stability along the Thai-Cambodian border."
