Yamaha Factory Racing Secures Second At Suzuka 8-Hour

Yamaha Factory Racing Team fielded three world-class riders—Jack Miller, Andrea Locatelli, and Katsuyuki Nakasuga—in the legendary Suzuka 8-Hour endurance race at Suzuka Circuit in Japan with their Yamaha YZF-R1.

Throughout the weekend, the factory team's champions demonstrated outstanding performance from practice through qualifying, securing fifth on the grid before the main race commenced.

The intense competition faced challenging weather with alternating rain and dry track conditions throughout the race. This forced all teams to adjust their strategies regarding tire selection, vehicle control, and race management over the eight-hour duration.

Despite facing difficult conditions, Jack Miller, Andrea Locatelli, and Katsuyuki Nakasuga maintained excellent race pace, taking turns to extract maximum performance from the Yamaha YZF-R1 as they continuously pressured the leading positions. In the final stages, they accelerated hard and moved up to secure second place in the final hour, trailing the leader by just one lap while keeping the victory within reach until the race's conclusion.

However, when heavy rain fell and track conditions deteriorated beyond safe racing standards, race officials decided to end the competition early. This resulted in Yamaha Factory Racing Team claiming the podium finish in second place with a total of 188 laps completed.

Team Manager Wataru Yoshikawa stated:

"In the final stages of the race, we managed to pressure our competitors well and reduced the gap from last year. But finishing second again shows there are still many areas we need to develop."

"I feel disappointed we couldn't convert the outstanding performance of all three riders and our team into a victory. Jack and Loca demonstrated the caliber of world-class riders—their speed, determination, and technical feedback greatly elevated our team."

"I've worked with Nakasuga in the pit for many years and have always been inspired by his work approach. Every rider, like myself, is disappointed because we didn't come here just to be satisfied with a podium finish. Our only goal is victory."

5h ago Khaosod

The Department of Industrial Works (DIW) has shut down two waste management factories in Saraburi province following pollution complaints from residents in the Huai Takhe area of Mueang district. After authorities from the Pollution Control Department, the Provincial Industrial Office, and the Environmental and Pollution Control Office Region 7 conducted field inspections and collected water samples from three facilities involved in waste and wastewater management, violations were discovered.

Company A was found to have problems managing leachate from hazardous and non-hazardous waste burial pits, as well as inadequate drainage systems, and was ordered to immediately halt operations in the hazardous waste burial section. Company B, which was licensed to separate non-waste recyclable materials, was found to have illegally expanded operations by installing an additional 210 horsepower of machinery beyond its authorization, and was also caught illegally burying leftover materials, stockpiling materials outside the facility, and illegally discharging water from the premises. The company received a full operational shutdown order, pending corrective measures to comply with its permit conditions and strict environmental monitoring.

Russia Gets Chance To Compete At 2028 Olympics

Russia may compete at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics if athletes meet anti-doping requirements, though the IOC maintains restrictions on displaying the Russian flag and national symbols.

Russia Gets Chance To Compete At 2028 Olympics
5h ago Khaosod

Russia may return to compete at the 2028 Olympics in the United States after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced a suspension of its ban, provided athletes comply with anti-doping regulations.

The IOC imposed a ban on Russia in 2023 following its invasion of Ukraine, which prevented Russian athletes from competing under their national flag. Previously authorized Russian athletes were required to compete under a neutral flag.

However, the IOC has now stated that the ban is no longer enforceable, meaning Russian athletes can participate again as long as they meet anti-doping requirements.

Still, the IOC has not granted Russia permission to display its flag, national anthem, or any national symbols at the Olympics, saying such decisions will be reconsidered at an appropriate time.

The IOC also announced it will not hold any organizational events in Russia or invite Russian officials to its functions, while continuing to support Ukraine's Olympic movement.

Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev stated via Telegram that his country welcomes the IOC's decision, emphasizing that the Olympics must remain free from politics. Russia is planning to participate in qualifying rounds for the upcoming Games.

Former agricultural officer arrested for orchestrating a fraud scheme in which he certified false flooding claims for farmers to illegally obtain compensation from Thailand's rice farmer income protection program.

Former Agricultural Officer Arrested For Flood Fraud Scheme
6h ago Khaosod

An arrest was made of a former agricultural officer who allegedly conspired with farmers to file false reports of rice field flooding in order to receive compensation under the farmer income guarantee program. On July 7, Phumiwisal Kaemsakul, secretary of the Anti-Corruption Commission, along with Narongwit Suwannsithi, director of the ACC's Region 6 office, ordered officers Somboorn Inthahtab and Awin Banjolard, along with investigator Wisut Saensamran, to arrest Sompon at his residence in Moo 6, Wang Bua subdistrict, Khlong Khlung district, in Kamphaengphet province, based on a court arrest warrant for fraud and corruption charges in Region 6. The suspect allegedly used his official position to convince multiple farmers to submit false statements and fabricated documents claiming they were rice field tenants eligible to receive aid from the rice farmer income protection program and had suffered damage from flooding. In his official role, the suspect accepted and certified false farmer registration documents and natural disaster relief program documents for 2010-2011, certifying that the farmers qualified to receive assistance. Although the suspect knew the certifications were fraudulent, he proceeded to collect money from the farmers. The suspect has been taken into custody and transferred to the Anti-Corruption Court for Region 6 for further legal proceedings.

Coach Ya Natthapond Srisamutnag, head coach of Thailand's national women's volleyball team for players under 18, achieved impressive results by defeating Japan 3-2 in sets to clinch third place at the Asian Championship and secure an Asia quota for the World Championship. However, following the tournament, the seasoned coach shocked everyone by announcing he will no longer coach any Thai national team regardless of age group, though he remains available for club-level work.

The Under-18 women's volleyball coach said: "I want to thank the athletes, coaching staff, and all parties who supported the team, as well as the schools—Suranaree, Bodindecha, Nakhonnom, Wangjanchan, and Sukhothai—whose cooperation gave us more training time. It's gratifying that all parties collaborated, and we achieved success by qualifying for the World Championship and reaching the podium as planned."

"In closing this announcement, I'm stepping back from all national teams. I'm considering my own situation and won't coach the national team in any division anymore, though there may be opportunities to see you all again if someone invites me to coach Thailand League."

"I want to tell fans, especially the keyboard coaches commenting on sports, that you won't see me in any national team anymore. I ask that the younger players on this team grow up and replace their seniors properly. I believe it's time for these seven champions to step up, and I've given them plenty of guidance already."

Three Oil Tankers Attacked in Hormuz Strait

Three oil tankers were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on July 7, with one struck by missiles and fire near Oman's coast in what officials suspect was an Iranian operation targeting vessels using alternative shipping routes.

Three Oil Tankers Attacked in Hormuz Strait
6h ago Khaosod

Three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz came under attack on July 7, the British military revealed, including one vessel off Oman's coast that was struck by missiles and caught fire at dawn local time. This marks the latest attack on shipping transiting the Persian Gulf gateway, which once carried one-fifth of the world's oil and gas in normal circumstances. Iran's state television reported that an LPG tanker was targeted after ignoring warnings, but stopped short of directly claiming responsibility. Iran has repeatedly declared that only Iranian-approved routes are safe, and is suspected of attacking multiple other vessels using alternative routes near Oman's coast. The UK Maritime Trade Operations Center said the tanker was hit near Limah on the Musandam Peninsula, with gunfire damaging the vessel's port side as it attempted to proceed south from the Strait of Hormuz toward the Gulf of Oman, with officials pursuing an investigation. Anonymous sources suggested Iran attacked an oil tanker carrying natural gas from Qatar, though Iranian officials have made no formal claims about the incident. Meanwhile, Iran-US negotiations appear to be on hold until funeral ceremonies conclude for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's late Supreme Leader who was killed in February. His coffin had been on display at the Imam Khomeini Mosque in Tehran since July 4 for public mourning, before being transferred overnight on July 6 to the Jamkaran Mosque in Qom, Islam's holiest city for Shia believers, as hundreds of thousands gathered to pay their respects.

Pickup Truck Barely Escapes Oil Train Near Pattaya

A pickup truck narrowly avoided a collision with an oil tanker train at a Chon Buri railway crossing after its driver recklessly accelerated through a descending barrier, forcing the train operator to make an emergency stop just inches away

Pickup Truck Barely Escapes Oil Train Near Pattaya
6h ago Khaosod

A shocking near-collision unfolded at the Khaotao Soi railway crossing in Bang Lamung District, Chon Buri Province, when a raised-cabin pickup truck tried to race through as the barrier was descending. The barrier came down on the truck's roof, trapping the vehicle dangerously close to the rails just as an oil tanker train approached at speed.

The train operator responded immediately, sounding the horn continuously and applying emergency brakes hard enough to lock the wheels and cause them to skid audibly across the tracks. Bystanders screamed in panic as the massive train bore down on the stalled truck. The train came to a halt only inches away, with a slight bump to the pickup's front bumper—an incredibly close call that could have been catastrophic.

After the video went viral on social media, many users condemned the driver's reckless decision to ignore safety signals, noting how the action endangered everyone involved. Authorities surveyed the site and installed additional warning signage to strengthen safety measures and prevent future attempts to cross during barrier closure.

According to Cha, 34, who recorded the video, the warning system and barrier were functioning normally when a foreign driver in the pickup accelerated through the closing barrier. The train operator documented the vehicle's details before continuing to Laem Chabang Port. The pickup driver fled the scene without reporting the incident. No injuries were reported.

Truck Wheel Crashes Into Noodle Shop In Nonthaburi
7h ago Khaosod

On July 7, Deputy Superintendent Supathorn Saraprakhon of Sai Noi Police Station in Nonthaburi received a report of a 22-wheel truck's trailer wheel detaching and smashing into Yai Sae noodle shop, operated by 69-year-old Nid Saeng Chanthara, located in Village 1 along the Sai Noi-Ladbuathuang Road in Khlong Khwang Subdistrict, Sai Noi District. Police arrived to find the rear dual wheel of a left axle from an Isuzu ten-wheel truck (license plate 70-3998, Nakhon Pathom) with trailer (plate 70-3997, Nakhon Pathom) embedded inside the shop, causing significant damage to merchandise and equipment. The truck was found parked nearby with its rear left wheel missing. The driver, 33-year-old Abhisit, remained at the scene.

Nid reported that she fortunately had closed for the day to visit a doctor. She heard a loud crash around 5:25 p.m. while in her bedroom and emerged to discover the truck wheel had penetrated her shop. A good Samaritan motorcycle rider had followed the truck and informed the driver of the accident. Abhisit acknowledged responsibility and stated he had been driving from a repair shop to an insurance office in Saraburi to claim for a cracked rear axle. He was unaware when the wheel detached during transit until the motorcyclist alerted him.

Police initially issued Abhisit fines totaling 800 baht: 400 baht for causing damage to another's property and 400 baht for operating a vehicle with defective equipment. The truck's insurance company will be responsible for covering all damages to the noodle shop.
