The GLO Cup 2026 eight-a-side youth football championship central and western regional qualifiers officially concluded on May 24, 2025 in Kanchanaburi province. Following six days of high-quality matches featuring competitive play and skilled performances from youth teams throughout the region, regional champions and representatives advancing to the national championship round have been finalized, along with all GLO STAR program selections.

In the U13 age group final, Jai Fah Academy faced Pranburi Football Academy in a match between two strong-form teams. Jai Fah Academy dominated with sharp play, winning 3-1 to claim the central and western regional championship and become the first team in the U13 category to achieve this honor. In the third-place playoff, Isuzu Suphan Academy drew 0-0 with Ban Kao Wittaya before prevailing 3-2 in a penalty shootout.

The U15 final delivered intense drama as Maple Hotel Club Bangkok U15 battled Sampran Wittaya School for 40 minutes before finishing 0-0. Maple Hotel Club Bangkok U15 ultimately prevailed 4-3 on penalties to capture the central and western regional championship. In the U15 third-place match, Isuzu Suphan Academy dominated Rose Garden Phatum FC with a spectacular 6-0 victory, becoming the only team from the central and western zone to advance to the national championship in both age groups.

Four teams from each age group have earned berths in the national championship:

U13 Champions: Jai Fah Academy (champion) Pranburi Football Academy (runner-up) Isuzu Suphan Academy (3rd place) Ban Kao Wittaya (4th place)

U15 Champions: Maple Hotel Club Bangkok U15 (champion) Sampran Wittaya School (runner-up) Isuzu Suphan Academy (3rd place) Rose Garden Phatum FC (4th place)

A key highlight was the GLO STAR 2026 program aimed at identifying high-potential youth footballers nationwide. Selection committees carefully monitored players throughout the competition before selecting 11 players from the central and western zone for the national selection round: four U13 players and seven U15 players. These selected players will progress through the national championship before a final selection determines three players per age group who will receive the opportunity to train with Avispa Fukuoka in Japan.

Thai Page Warns Cheap "Edible Gold Leaf" May Be Industrial Foil

A Thai Facebook page warned consumers that cheap gold-colored foil imported from China and sold as edible bakery decoration may actually be industrial craft material containing unapproved metals, with tens of thousands of units already sold

1d ago Khaosod

CHIANG MAI — 25 May 2026, A popular Thai Facebook page has warned consumers that cheap gold-coloured foil imported from China and sold online as edible bakery decoration may not be safe for consumption.

The page, Drama-addict, said on Monday that a follower had alerted it to gold-coloured foil from China being sold at bakery supply shops as edible decoration. The concern began after the follower used a translation app to scan labels on small vials of the product.

According to the page, the translated label described the product as copper-based foil intended for arts and crafts, not for human consumption. Despite that warning, the item was allegedly being sold under edible baking supplies.

The page said similar products were also being sold on major e-commerce platforms, with some listings showing total sales of more than 10,000 units. The administrator purchased samples of the imported product and said the low price — about 20 baht per vial — was an immediate warning sign, as genuine edible gold leaf in similar quantities would normally cost far more.

After receiving the product, the administrator carried out several informal checks. He said genuine gold leaf is usually beaten so thin that it breaks apart and almost disappears when rubbed between the fingers. The sample, however, reportedly rolled into small clumps and metallic flakes.

The administrator also conducted a burn test, saying genuine gold does not oxidise when exposed to flame. When the imported foil was scorched, he said, it quickly turned black. The page said the reaction suggested the product was not genuine gold but another metal or alloy.

The page concluded that the product was not suitable for consumption and appeared to be intended for craft use. It accused some sellers of mislabelling the item online and in shops as "food-grade edible gold."

The administrator warned that consuming such products could pose a health risk, particularly if they contain metals not approved for food use. He said the apparent sales volume was concerning, with online listings showing tens of thousands of units sold.

It remains unclear how many consumers may have already eaten pastries decorated with the product. The page urged relevant agencies to inspect the products and take action before consumers are put at further risk.

Phichit Buzzing as Residents Line Up to Verify Identity for Thai Helps Thai Plus Scheme

Phichit Buzzing as Residents Line Up to Verify Identity for Thai Helps Thai Plus Scheme, Long queues extend outside bank. Residents began queuing from 6 AM. On May 25, 2025, reports indicate the Krung Thai Bank Phichit branch has been bustling since 6 AM, with large crowds arriving to queue for identity verification to receive the Thai Helps Thai Plus (60/40) subsidy. Residents with the Pao Tang mobile application brought their phones to verify registration for the program, which is accepting registrations between May 25-29 with 30 million benefit allocations available.

Bank staff arranged for people to queue outside the building to reduce overcrowding and provided clarifications to waiting residents, establishing separate queues for benefit verification and routine banking transactions. One resident reported arriving at 7 AM to use the Pao Tang app for facial recognition verification with bank staff, but worried about the extended queue and feared missing out on the benefits.

The bank established additional service points with intern trainees and staff to provide guidance to the public. The main registration problem identified involves equipment and technical system limitations, particularly for elderly residents using older smartphones where the Android operating system must be version 10 or higher to support the application.

This has created anxiety among residents with questions such as "Do I need to buy a new phone to exchange for these benefits?" which adds financial burden in the current economic situation. Other technical issues causing confusion include failed identity verification, particularly facial scanning problems, with SIM card data and registered SIM holder names needing to match the national ID number.

Staff have been promoting instructions on how to verify through ID numbers, phone calls, and internet signals. Some residents have experienced slow internet signals that disrupted their registration process, but system uncertainty and complex conditions continue to leave many residents stressed and worried about missing this opportunity for assistance.

Ms. Sut Jai Bunwat, a resident of Muang Kao subdistrict, revealed she had her grandchild enter the system to verify benefits because she feared mistakes would prevent proper verification for the Thai Helps Thai Plus scheme.

Commerce Ministry: Trade Deficit Hits Record High Due to Oil Prices and Surge in Raw Material Imports

Thailand's trade deficit hit a record 340 billion baht in April as imports surged 45% due to rising oil costs and increased raw material purchases for manufacturing, despite exports growing 23%.

1d ago Khaosod

The Commerce Ministry reported April exports grew 23% while imports surged 45%, mostly semi-finished raw materials for manufacturing and re-export, pushing Thailand's trade deficit to a historic record of 340 billion baht. Nanthapong Jiraleschpong, Director of the Office of Trade Policy and Strategy (OTPS) under the Commerce Ministry, revealed that April exports reached $31.583 billion, up 23.1% year-on-year, driven by 5.5% growth in agricultural and agro-industrial products and 27.5% growth in industrial goods. Strong export performers included electronics and circuit boards (up 19.4%), automobiles (up 9.4%), fresh and frozen fruits (up 74.3%), and processed chicken (up 6.1%), along with market recovery as importers accelerated purchases to hedge against price volatility and supply chain disruption concerns. Imports reached $41.604 billion, up 45%, resulting in a trade deficit of $10.021 billion or approximately 340 billion baht—a historic record—because Thailand is importing more semi-finished raw materials for production and export, while energy import costs have risen due to Middle East conflict impacts. For the first four months (January-April), exports totaled $127.752 billion, up 18.9% year-on-year, while imports reached $147.250 billion, up 35.7%, resulting in a trade deficit of $19.497 billion. Key export markets showed continued expansion: the United States (up 44.2%), the EU (up 19.2%), China (up 21.9%), Japan (up 23.4%), the Middle East (up 19.3%), ASEAN (up 34.3%), and South Asia (up 9.2%). However, the OTPS maintained Thailand's 2024 export target in the range of -3% to 8%, valued at approximately $329.446-366.805 billion, with a midpoint of 3% or an average annual export value of $349.824 billion. For the remaining eight months, average monthly exports must reach $27.758 billion to meet this target.

Foreigner walks out of Phuket restaurant despite unpaid drinkLegacyA foreign woman was criticised online after refusing to fully pay a bill at a restaurant in Phuket, saying a drink did not match her expectations. The incident occurred at New Break Taek restaurant in the Chalong area of Phuket on Saturday, May 23, and was later shared widely on Thai social media. According to footage circulating online, the foreign woman visited the restaurant with her daughter and a Thai woman believed to be a babysitter. The video showed the tourist and her daughter leaving the restaurant after refusing to pay part of an 80 baht bill. The Thai woman later followed them outside. The bill dispute caused criticism online, particularly among local business operators, some of whom said similar incidents involving unpaid bills had occurred previously in Phuket. Photo via Workpoint News Some restaurant owners suggested businesses should request payment in advance, while others called for stronger legal action against customers who refuse to settle bills. Two restaurant employees later spoke to Thai media outlets to explain the situation. According to the staff, the foreign customer initially ordered shrimp satay and a pineapple smoothie before later requesting a strawberry smoothie without sugar. After the meals and drinks were served, staff presented the total bill of 455 baht. The employees said the woman refused to pay the bill, complaining that the shrimp portions were too small and the strawberry smoothie tasted different from what she expected. Restaurant staff reportedly apologised and offered to remake the strawberry drink to suit her preferences, but she declined the offer. Photo via Workpoint News After further discussion, the customer agreed to pay for the shrimp satay and pineapple smoothie, which totalled 375 baht, but continued refusing to pay for the strawberry drink before leaving the restaurant. The staff told reporters they initially expected they would have to personally cover the unpaid 80 baht under restaurant policy. However, they said the restaurant owner later reviewed CCTV footage and decided they would not be responsible for the cost. Employees also urged other restaurants in Phuket to remain cautious when serving customers, particularly foreign tourists. The workers added that the restaurant had operated for more than 20 years and this was the first time they had experienced a dispute of this nature.

The story Foreigner walks out of Phuket restaurant despite unpaid drink as seen on Thaiger News.
