Thai Women's Unified Football Team to Compete in Special Olympics World Cup 2026

Thailand's women's football team has qualified for the Special Olympics Unified Football World Cup 2026 in Paris, marking the country's first participation in a world-level football competition and demonstrating the power of sports for soci

2d ago Khaosod

Thailand's women's football team is one of 12 finalists in the Special Olympics Unified Football World Cup 2026 in Paris, representing a powerful demonstration of social inclusion through football, the world's most beloved sport. Nearly half a million Special Olympics athletes currently play football worldwide.

This marks the first time Thai Special Olympics athletes have qualified for a world-level football competition, showcasing Thailand's capabilities, determination, and pride on the global stage.

Dr. Kongsakd Yodmani, Director-General of the Sport Authority of Thailand, spoke about the broader sports promotion policy and the significance of this competition: "From Thailand's sports perspective, the Thai women's football team's participation in this competition is critically important to Thai sports and Thailand's international image. The significance extends beyond competition results—it demonstrates that sports is a space of opportunity for all athletes, including those with intellectual disabilities. The Unified Football format, where athletes with intellectual disabilities compete alongside non-disabled athletes on the same team, reflects the true power of understanding, equality, and genuine social coexistence. Sports participation is vital for promoting social inclusion and fostering correct attitudes toward people with intellectual disabilities."

Dr. Nariss Chaisoot, President of the Special Olympics Thailand Association, discussed the organization's role in creating opportunities for Thai athletes with intellectual disabilities from grassroots to world level: "The Special Olympics Thailand Association uses sports as a tool to develop potential, confidence, and quality of life for people with intellectual disabilities in Thailand. Football is a key sport implementing the Unified Sports concept. Today, we have numerous football players nationwide, with a continuously growing number of female players. This team emerged from a rigorous selection process through our 'Women's Football League' system to ensure maximum readiness. Football demonstrates itself as a space of opportunity, helping athletes develop themselves. Therefore, this journey to the world stage is not merely the success of one group of athletes—it serves as inspiration for all Special Olympics athletes across the country, their families, and coaches."

Dr. Ruttirong Intrajinda, Director of the Unified Football World Cup 2026 team, outlined preparation strategies: "We've prioritized comprehensive team preparation across technical skills, physical fitness, mental strength, competitive experience, and genuine teamwork. The team has engaged in continuous training and preparation, enabling athletes to learn on-field skills, manage pressure, adapt during competition, and build mutual understanding. Before departure, we must prioritize athlete health management, nutrition, rest, injury prevention, and mental encouragement to ensure complete readiness. This Thai women's team is not merely a football competitor—it reflects the dignity, determination, dedication, and unity of the Thai national team."

The event also featured a special interview with Special Olympics Thailand Group Ambassador BNK4.

Pond Opens Up Images from Cave Rescue of 7 People Trapped in Laos: Narrow Passages and High Water Make Access Extremely Difficult

Seven workers trapped in a collapsed Laotian gold mine tunnel face worsening conditions as rising water and narrow passages complicate rescue efforts by Thai teams deployed to Luang Prabang Province.

2d ago Khaosod

Pond Chakrkrishna, representative of Thailand's rescue team aiding 7 people trapped in a Laotian cave, has revealed footage showing the narrow passages, high water levels, and extremely difficult access conditions inside the cave. On November 24, 2569, a gold mine tunnel collapsed in Luang Prabang, Xayaboury Province, Laos, leaving 7 workers stranded unable to exit. The Thai rescue team deployed to assist, beginning survey operations at 16:05. The Thailand Rescue Diver page shared clips from the scene showing extreme working conditions with tight passages, rising water, and severe access challenges. Pond revealed that continuous rainfall is causing water levels inside the cave to rise constantly, forcing all personnel to remain stationed at the incident site. The mountain access route spans over 4 kilometers and takes 1-2 hours to traverse, meaning rescuers must camp at the location. The phrase "We can only rest at the incident site" underscores that this is no ordinary rescue mission, but a race against time and nature itself.

A 33-year-old man in Kamphaeng Phet confessed to sexually assaulting his 16-year-old niece after luring her to an abandoned house under false pretenses. Police filed three charges including rape with weapons and abduction of a minor.

2d ago Khaosod

In an update on a shocking criminal case in Kamphaeng Phet, a 33-year-old uncle has confessed to police after allegedly sexually assaulting his 16-year-old niece in an abandoned house. Mr. Kritsada (surname withheld), 33, admitted to the crime and claimed he acted on a sudden impulse. According to his account, he deceived the girl by asking her to help collect scrap metal to make a chicken coop, but once at the isolated location, he pulled a knife on her throat to force her into sexual acts. He then threatened to keep a video recording of the assault and warned her not to tell anyone, though he later admitted he never actually recorded anything. After the incident, the victim reported the crime to investigators at Mueang Kamphaeng Phet Police Station. Officers immediately secured the scene and gathered evidence. Given the serious trauma inflicted on the victim, investigators filed three major charges: rape with weapons and violence, taking a minor aged 15 to 18 years old for indecent purposes, and abduction of a minor from parental custody. Although the suspect initially denied the allegations to media, he later confessed during police questioning and was immediately detained. The victim, a 16-year-old girl, is being interviewed by a multidisciplinary team according to child protection laws, with psychological support being arranged for her recovery.

Family Cries Foul After Government Agencies Seize Land and Demolish Home Despite Lawyer's Warnings

A Sing Buri family lost nearly a third of their inherited land to government encroachment and had their home demolished without compensation, prompting their lawyer to file complaints with the Ministry of Interior.

2d ago Khaosod

A Sing Buri family brought their land deed to lawyer Ratchapol Sirisakorn on May 24, 2569, seeking assistance. The group included 35-year-old Nathapol, 37-year-old Karakade, 73-year-old Calvin, and 72-year-old Kanyani, claiming they suffered hardship when forced to demolish their home and lost land to public road construction without compensation. Karakade explained the family had owned the property in Tambon Bangman, Muang District, Sing Buri for decades, inherited through their mother. Upon returning to settle on their own land, they discovered it had shrunk from 2 rai 23.7 square wah to just 1 rai 27 square wah—losing 100 square wah to government encroachment on both front and rear. When they objected to the municipality, officials claimed the 10-year-old encroachment was now state property and told them to accept it.

Kanyani recounted attempting to seek justice from the municipal president about the demolition, but was told to let it go. Within days, the municipality sent workers to demolish the house anyway. The shifting statements caused her blood pressure and diabetes to spike. Lawyer Ratchapol is now compiling documentation to file complaints with the Ministry of Interior and the government's complaint center, seeking damages for the unauthorized land encroachment for public purposes without the owner's consent.

Thai Army Region 2 has rejected Cambodia's claim that Thai forces fired 22 rounds in the Oisamet-Chong Jom border area on May 24, 2025, describing the allegation as "untrue" and confirming no firearms were discharged. According to reports, Cambodia claimed its forces heard small-arms fire totaling 22 rounds—12 rounds between 9:24-9:45 a.m. and an additional 10 rounds at 10:10 a.m.—allegedly from Thai-controlled territory. Thai authorities clarified that officers detected Cambodian troops attempting to move construction materials closer to barbed wire near Thai positions during the morning hours, prompting warning signals to be issued as a standard border control measure, but no weapons of any kind were fired. Thailand emphasized that the border situation remains under close monitoring and coordination between security agencies of both nations to prevent misunderstandings and avoid incidents in the frontier zone.

Sa Vanisa Opens Up About Wild Partying Every Night, Obsessive Weight Loss, and Hospital Stay for Perforated Stomach

Thai actress Sa Vanisa opens up about struggling with nightly partying, obsessive weight loss, and a hospitalized perforated stomach, while also discussing her parenting journey with her autistic son Say Day, now 20 and studying computer pr

2d ago Khaosod

Sa Vanisa shares her personal experience with heavy partying every night, obsessive weight loss, and ultimately ending up hospitalized with a perforated stomach. She deserves recognition as another strong woman of the nation. Many already know that Sa Vanisa raises her son "Say Day," who has autism. So how old is Say Day now? Say Day: I'm 20 now and studying at Sripat University, in my second year. Sa: He's had his heart set on becoming a programmer since childhood, and he's never wavered from that goal. Say Day: I've been around games my whole life, and I want to create my own games. Most of what I create now is what the university assigns me to do—mostly games that require fast mouse clicking or action games. What's your parenting approach like? Sa: Every parent's approach is different, depending on their family background. I didn't come from Say Day's generation, but from my mother's era, which was very strict. But I didn't raise my son the same way I was raised. When it comes to Say Day, I worry a lot. The transition from high school to university is a big change—new environment, new friend groups, and he has to adapt. In high school, Say Day had maybe one real friend he could really talk to. University society is completely different from high school. At university, he has to take care of himself, do group projects, talk with classmates. I worried whether his friends would understand him. I just prayed they would. Say Day: I might not have many friends—maybe five or six—but when I came to university, I didn't have to adapt that hard. It's not all familiar, but when I meet people, I start to understand them. Sa: Now his grandmother takes him to the BTS station, and he takes the train to school. At first I was worried because I used to teach him and go with him on the train. Say Day: I come home on time. If I don't have plans with friends, but if I do, I let her know. Your mom mentioned Say Day's type is kind-hearted women? Say Day: I don't know yet. I'd have to meet someone first to know. But I haven't met anyone yet. Sa: That means he hasn't met anyone more beautiful than his mother. Say Day: Maybe. How is Say Day's autism doing lately? Sa: His doctor says he's improved. He interacts more, and when he talks or answers the doctor's questions, he's much clearer. He still takes medication, which helps with his focus and improves his learning. Going back to the time when we were stressed—sometimes I had meltdowns. How did that go? Sa: I also had depression, but it was manageable depression that I could adapt to without medication. I saw a doctor only once, and he advised that if I take medication, I need to follow the steps properly. If I could do it, it would be good—natural healing that would let me control my emotions. Because I felt that taking medication would have quite a lot of side effects. So the method I chose was to leave that situation first, then calm myself down. I'd count 1-2-3 or whatever, listen to music, or find something I love. The doctor said if I felt symptoms, I should leave and find something I enjoy. At that time, I'd do crochet, focusing all my attention on the crochet. After a while, that emotion would naturally disappear on its own. Now the house is full of crocheted dolls. I've come to understand my own emotions. Sa said it was a short period for both of us. Everything was adjustable, so it was okay. Did Say Day ever see his mother having a meltdown? Say Day: (nods) I'm not sure if there was something flying. I heard a "bang" sound, but I didn't really hear mom screaming. Sa: It was closing the door. The wind closed it. And one thing that bothers me is that my son doesn't let me hug him much? Sa: Rarely. He doesn't really hug me the way he does with his grandmother.
