Tragic: Pickup Driver Falls Asleep, Metal Beam Pierces Through Vehicle and Fatally Impales Him

A 28-year-old pickup driver died when a metal beam shot through his vehicle after he fell asleep at the wheel on Highway 9 in Pathum Thani Province, impaling him in the abdomen.

29 Apr Khaosod

A tragic incident occurred at 09:30 on April 29, 2025, when police from Samkok Station received a report of a pickup truck impaled by roadside metal at Highway 9 (heading toward Bang Bua Thong) in Bang Kra Bue Subdistrict, Samkok District, Pathum Thani Province. Officers and rescue volunteers quickly arrived at the scene on a bridge in the rightmost lane, where they found a gray Nissan Navara with Bangkok license plates. The driver, identified as Subbun, 28, was unconscious in the driver's seat with a two-inch angle-iron beam, approximately one meter long, embedded in his abdomen.

Rescuers attempted CPR but were unsuccessful, and the driver was pronounced dead. Officers contacted forensic pathologists from the Justice Ministry's Institute of Forensic Medicine. Two Myanmar workers, one man and one woman, were also found at the scene. The male worker, identified as Chuem, 42, explained that the group was traveling from Lad Krabang to a construction site in Lad Lum Kaew when suddenly the vehicle swerved to the right, lost control, and fell into the drainage ditch along the roadside before landing on the bridge.

Once the vehicle stopped, a metal bracket that had been lodged beneath the truck suddenly shot upward and pierced through the cabin, striking the driver fatally in the abdomen. Police initially suspect the driver fell asleep while driving, causing the vehicle to veer right before the front wheel dropped into the drainage ditch where the metal bracket was positioned. The bracket became dislodged and shot upward through the vehicle's undercarriage before piercing the driver's abdomen. Further detailed investigation is ongoing, and the body has been transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for autopsy and official cause-of-death determination.

29 Apr Khaosod

The Department of Agricultural Extension is leveraging artificial intelligence to strengthen grassroots economic development by training approximately 1,000 agricultural promotion officials at all levels to serve as 'AI Coaches' and transfer knowledge to local communities. Deputy Director Suriya Kampuang revealed that these officials will be trained online to develop AI skills and guide the application of AI technology in various areas including targeted marketing, product and packaging development, demand forecasting, and precise business planning.

The department has also compiled practical support tools for community enterprises and farmer entrepreneurs, including over 400 AI prompts and ROI (Return on Investment) calculation guides to help community enterprises analyze business viability, make informed decisions, and reduce investment risks.

The initiative aims to enable community enterprises to apply AI responsibly while adhering to ethical principles and relevant laws. The program targets over 64,513 community enterprises nationwide with more than 1.17 million members, aiming to enhance their competitiveness, add value to products and services, and transition effectively to the digital economy era.

"Using AI will help community enterprises reduce operational costs, increase production efficiency, and expand marketing channels, particularly in online marketing and brand creation, which will add value to community products and services and create economic multiplier effects at the regional and national levels," Suriya stated.

The project emphasizes responsible technology use, considering ethics, intellectual property, and relevant laws. The department aims for at least 70% of trained officials to apply their knowledge concretely in their local areas and scale up community enterprise development broadly.

The initiative represents a shift for Thai community enterprises from manufacturers to modern entrepreneurs capable of creating added value and competing in the digital economy with integrity. The department expects the program to serve as a key mechanism for elevating the nation's grassroots economic structure from product manufacturing to brand creation and value addition, moving from traditional market dependence to data-driven business analysis and planning, while strengthening Thai community enterprises' self-reliance and ensuring sustainable long-term growth.

Election Commission to Deploy Professional Polling Station Managers for Bangkok, Bangkok Metropolitan Council, and Pattaya Elections

Thailand's Election Commission has announced preparations for Bangkok Governor, Bangkok Metropolitan Council, and Pattaya Mayor elections scheduled for June 28, 2025, introducing a new model with professionally trained polling station managers to minimize errors. The commission aims for 75% voter turnout in Bangkok and has completed preliminary surveys of over 6,600 polling stations across the capital's 50 electoral districts. Several political parties have not submitted candidates, citing the one-year household registration requirement as a key eligibility barrier.

29 Apr Khaosod

On April 29, 2025, at TK Palace and Convention Hotel, Election Commission Secretary Suwang Buamee announced preparations for simultaneous elections for Bangkok Governor, Bangkok Metropolitan Council members, and Pattaya Mayor on June 28, 2025. The Bangkok and Chonburi Election Commissions have begun implementing their plans without concerns, having coordinated with relevant agencies and incorporated lessons from previous parliamentary elections. The new model features professionally trained polling station managers to reduce errors and gain public acceptance, who will receive intensive training and possibly licensing certificates from the Election Commission, with enhanced protection measures for these officials.

Regarding criticism of Chonburi's Election Commission director during the previous Chonburi parliamentary election, Suwang acknowledged the highly competitive environment but insisted on fairness, noting legal proceedings are ongoing. Bangkok's director reported that 6,632 polling stations have been surveyed across 50 districts, an increase of 102 from parliamentary elections. The Bangkok governor and council members' terms expire May 21, 2025; either can resign early if necessary to allow simultaneous elections on June 28.

When asked about concerns regarding the election, officials noted they have been briefing candidates on campaign restrictions since November 21, 2024, the start of the 180-day pre-election period. Based on 70% turnout in parliamentary elections, Bangkok expects 75% voter participation in these local elections, as citizens typically show greater interest in local elections. Several parties have not submitted candidates, partly due to the one-year household registration requirement and other eligibility criteria.

Highway Police Bust Suspected Drug-Linked Vehicle with Forged Documents—VIN Matches Car Missing for 13 Years

Highway Police arrested a man in Songkhla with a stolen Mitsubishi Spacewagon that had been missing for 13 years, discovering forged license plates and registration documents during a drug-trafficking investigation.

29 Apr Khaosod

On April 29, 2026, officers from the Highway Police Division 7, led by Police Major Intharatana Panya, arrested Yurang (surname withheld), a 43-year-old man, on charges of forging government documents and receiving stolen property. Police seized a gray-black Mitsubishi Spacewagon, forged license plates, and fake registration documents with Bangkok plates. The arrest took place along a roadside in Pak Bang subdistrict, Thepha district, Songkhla province.

Officers received a tip about a suspicious vehicle possibly linked to drug trafficking and found it parked at the suspect's residence. Upon inspection, the license plates appeared abnormal and didn't meet Department of Land Transport standards, and the registration documents were entirely forged. A VIN check revealed the vehicle matched a car reported stolen to Thonglor Police Station in April 2013.

During interrogation, Yurang claimed that about two years ago, a coworker had brought the car to pawn for 50,000 baht due to financial need. He accepted it, but the coworker later quit and disappeared. Yurang has been handed over to Thepha Police for legal proceedings, with authorities coordinating with the owner to retrieve the seized vehicle.

29 Apr Khaosod

Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn chaired a meeting to monitor the management of the 2569 fiscal year budget and oversee the framework for the 2570 budget allocation, with the goal of directing development efforts for optimal value and maximum public benefit.

Attendees included Deputy Transport Ministers Siripong Angkhaskuldkitti, Phatraphong Phatprasit, and Sanphet Bunnamani, along with Transport Ministry officials and representatives from eight government agencies, one state enterprise, and seven state-owned enterprises.

Pipat revealed that budget management for fiscal year 2569 totaling 265.4 billion baht is being tracked, with over 234.7 billion baht allocated to investment spending for national development. He has directed all agencies to manage and execute their projects according to government-set targets and timelines to ensure efficient budget distribution, stimulate grassroots economic growth, and generate continuous income for citizens.

For the 2570 budget framework preparation, the ministry has reviewed allocation requests totaling 399.5 billion baht from affiliated agencies. Key policy directives include:

– Prioritizing maintenance over new road construction, emphasizing repairs and upkeep of existing transport infrastructure for safety and public convenience. – Reducing unnecessary expenditures by reviewing study trips and office building construction, favoring leasing arrangements instead to redirect funds toward genuine public benefit initiatives. – Pioneering clean energy by mandating that new government vehicle purchases or leases must be electric (EV) or hybrid vehicles, alongside support for solar panel installations at agency facilities to reduce pollution and tackle PM 2.5 problems.

"The ministry's direction moving forward must align with the country's energy transition policy, emphasizing transparency, cost-effectiveness, and efficient budget management to achieve modern, convenient, safe, and environmentally-friendly transportation systems while driving sustainable economic growth," Pipat stated.

I'm Done For! Sorayut Raises His Hands in Surrender Over Ten-Thousand-Baht Electricity Bill, Pleads for Meter Check

Television personality Sorayut Sutasaneejinda has publicly appealed to the Bangkok Metropolitan Electricity Authority to investigate his electricity meter after receiving a bill exceeding ten thousand baht despite living alone. He suspects the meter may be faulty or incorrectly connected to another household's usage. The incident highlights growing concerns about unusually high electricity bills affecting multiple households in Bangkok recently.

29 Apr Khaosod

I'm done for! Sorayut Sutasaneejinda is raising his hands in surrender over an electricity bill exceeding ten thousand baht despite living alone, urging the Bangkok Metropolitan Electricity Authority to investigate whether his meter is faulty.

While high electricity bills have been widespread lately, some households appear to be experiencing suspiciously excessive charges. In the program 'Kammakan News Chat Off-Screen,' Sorayut announced to the Bangkok Metropolitan Electricity Authority's Bang Khen branch that he's financially ruined, living alone yet receiving a bill for over ten thousand baht.

"Could you please check my house? I live alone. Even though I have several air conditioning units, I only turn them on when I'm around. Why is my bill over ten thousand baht?" Sorayut pleaded with the electricity authority to investigate the possibility of a faulty meter.

"I'm done for! This is really suspicious. The water pump sometimes runs even when the water isn't being used. This is it—Bangkok Metropolitan Electricity Authority, Bang Khen branch, I'm begging you, please come check. It must be a jumbled meter reading from another house. I never had problems before, but now I'm suffering."

Sorayut also noted that "Look at the billing yourself. If anyone's bill is lower than 2,300 baht, their electricity rate is cheaper. If it exceeds 2,300 baht, the rate becomes more expensive in June's billing cycle." The post has drawn various comments from other users.
