NACC Explains Personnel Transfers and Position Rotations to Prevent Undue Influence, Plans to Add 1,500 Officials in Anti-Corruption Drive

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has implemented mandatory four-year personnel rotations and plans to expand its workforce by 1,500 officials to strengthen anti-corruption efforts. The reorganization aims to prevent concentrated power and protect officials from undue influence while addressing Thailand's declining Corruption Perceptions Index, which currently ranks 116th globally. The NACC previously had over 3,000 pending cases but has significantly reduced this backlog through accelerated proceedings.

5d ago Khaosod

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has explained its personnel transfers and position rotations for officials completing four-year tenures, aimed at preventing concentrated power and eliminating personal conflicts of interest in their work. On March 10, 2025, the Royal Gazette published new NACC regulations signed by the commission's chairman, taking effect March 4, designed to enhance transparency and improve personnel management aligned with the organization's new structure.

The Personnel Management Regulation No. 5 establishes clear duty periods: officials in director positions must be rotated after three consecutive years, while group directors and center directors must be transferred after four years. The NACC emphasized three key reasons for mandatory four-year rotations: protecting personnel and their families in provincial and regional anti-corruption work from threats and intimidation; preventing officials from misusing authority or personal relationships to benefit their work areas; and addressing historical issues where some officials transferred from the predecessor agency remained in the same regional offices, merely changing positions without actual relocation.

The commission stated that in the past, over 3,000 cases were pending, with some important cases exceeding the statute of limitations. However, the current NACC board has reduced pending cases to several hundred and established a two-year case resolution timeline with one-year extensions. Currently, the NACC has over 2,000 personnel nationwide and plans to add 1,500 more within two years to strengthen proactive operations. This expansion is crucial as corruption costs Thailand hundreds of billions of baht annually. Thailand's 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index score of 33 out of 100 placed it 116th globally and 7th in Southeast Asia, prompting urgent action. The NACC stressed that the personnel transfers were conducted transparently by a multi-department committee, though some individuals may object.

Deputy Police Chief Rushes to Fix Traffic Problems on First Day of School at Bangkok Christian College

Thai police deployed traffic management measures at Bangkok Christian College on the first day of school to combat congestion around the campus. Deputy Police Chief Thawat Wongsang introduced a four-point strategy including officer positioning, a "3 Prepare 1 Avoid" measure for parents, home-school cooperation, and promotion of public transportation as an alternative to private vehicles. The initiative emphasizes quick drop-offs without parking to maintain smooth traffic flow in the densely congested Sathon Road area.

Deputy Police Chief Rushes to Fix Traffic Problems on First Day of School at Bangkok Christian College, Recommends Parents Use Public Electric Trains

On May 14, 2025, Deputy Police Chief Thawat Wongsang, who oversees traffic operations, along with Bangkok Metropolitan Police Division 6 Commander Chaikrit Podhohma, Deputy Commander Nitivat Sansing, Yannawa Station Commander Pansa Amrapittak, Deputy Traffic Commander Kulnun Aphinitianant, and Traffic Unit Supervisor Chavarojn Glahauy, deployed to manage traffic in front of Bangkok Christian College on Pramuan Road, Silom subdistrict, Bang Rak district, Bangkok, to resolve congestion issues. Teachers, school network partners, and traffic police from Yannawa Station coordinated to facilitate smooth traffic flow on the school's first day.

Deputy Police Chief Thawat stated: "I came today to inspect and oversee traffic management in front of Bangkok Christian College, working with the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Division 6 commander and Yannawa Station. With many students and parents dropping off children, the Police Headquarters has established four key measures:

1. Officer Deployment: Traffic police are positioned at strategic points around the school to facilitate traffic flow and prevent congestion in surrounding areas.

2. The "3 Prepare 1 Avoid" Measure for Parents: - Prepare items: Have school supplies and backpacks ready before reaching the drop-off point - Prepare yourself: When the vehicle arrives at the drop-off point, students must be ready to exit immediately - Prepare meeting point: Coordinate evening pickups with "child waits for car, car doesn't wait for child" to maintain continuous traffic flow - Avoid: No double parking, no stopping to drop off children yourself to prevent traffic obstruction

3. Home-School Cooperation: The school plays a crucial role in traffic management with support from parents, student volunteers helping younger students, and teachers facilitating traffic at various points.

Deputy Chief Thawat emphasized promoting public transportation, noting the school's proximity to the BTS Skytrain station. He urged families to use public or mass transit instead of private vehicles to reduce congestion on the already densely trafficked Sathon Road.

Orawan Phokhinwachakon, Bangkok Christian College's school board director, said: "On behalf of the Parent-Teacher Association, we've coordinated with Yannawa Station and nearby areas. Specifically for today's school opening, we coordinated in advance on procedures, traffic routes, and traffic light coordination for smooth vehicle flow. Importantly, we've continuously informed parents about having children prepared before exiting—to hold their bags, with older students helping carry items and escort younger ones out quickly so vehicles don't get stuck."

Deputy Chief Thawat added: "There should be no stopping at all—no idle parking, no double parking. For pickups, if parents need to schedule pickup times with their child, once the parent's car arrives, we won't allow them to wait. The child must be ready to board. If not ready, parents must circle around again."

Orawan further stated: "This is a parent education measure that received excellent response last year and is expected to work well this year. Last year received praise because there were no complaints from surrounding areas."

5d ago Khaosod

The announcement made on May 14 has once again generated buzz as a Malaysian Pokémon card collector listed his personal collection for sale at 4.44 million Malaysian ringgit, approximately 36.6 million baht, with a broker commission of over 80,000 ringgit or roughly 660,000 baht for whoever successfully finds a buyer.

Damiral Imran, a collector from Penang state in Malaysia, previously made headlines when he sold a complete Pokémon card set for 1.87 million ringgit or about 14 million baht. Recently, in early May, he posted on Facebook announcing the sale of part of his personal Pokémon card collection, pricing it at 4,444,444 Malaysian ringgit or approximately 36.6 million baht.

Imran revealed that he spent only six months accumulating this collection and estimates the current market value between 4.68 to 4.75 million ringgit or roughly 38-39 million baht. He also accepts exchange offers in the form of 3.8 million ringgit in cash, approximately 31.3 million baht, plus a Mercedes-AMG GTS sports car.

To increase the chances of closing the sale, the collector is offering a 660,000 baht commission to anyone who successfully helps find a buyer. All transactions will be conducted in cash with direct delivery in Kuala Lumpur.

Previously, Imran set a record selling a Pokémon card set valued at over 2 million ringgit (approximately 16.5 million baht) for 1.87 million ringgit (about 14 million baht) within just 10 days of the announcement. At that time, he offered the buyer the option to pay 1 million ringgit (around 8.2 million baht) in cash plus a Porsche 911 Carrera 4S sports car, but ultimately the buyer chose to pay the full amount in cash instead.

The popularity of Pokémon cards continues to grow among collectors worldwide, particularly rare cards and complete collections whose values have increased rapidly over the past several years.

Ekniti Clarifies Thauvin Capital Issue; Pledges SEC Chief Removal if Investigation Proves Wrongdoing

Deputy Prime Minister Ekniti Nitithanaprasad defended his government's handling of the Thauvin capital controversy and oil refining margins during a parliamentary session, pledging strict enforcement of new regulations and promising removal of the SEC chairman if investigation proves wrongdoing. Ekniti explained that the Cabinet approved reducing oil refining margins by 2-5 baht per liter to address cost-of-living pressures, while tightening corporate governance rules to prevent individuals from legally-troubled companies from joining company boards.

5d ago Khaosod

At 10:40 AM on May 14, 2025, during a parliamentary session chaired by House Speaker Sophon Sararum, Democrat Party MP Karan Chatigavanich questioned Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanaprasad about capital market problems and the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) handling of an oil refinery company allowing Thauvin capital group members to join its board in 2024.

Ekniti explained that regarding oil prices, the Finance Ministry reviewed refining margins and presented findings to the Cabinet on April 7, concluding that excess profit margins existed. He stated the proposal was to use excess profits for public benefit and create a transparent system by reducing refining margins and evaluating actual costs. The Cabinet approved these measures on April 8, reducing excess refining margins by 2 baht per liter for March and 5 baht per liter for April.

On the 400 billion baht emergency loan decree, Ekniti noted this crisis differs from 1997's currency crisis or the global financial crisis, as it stems from energy and cost-of-living issues affecting purchasing power. He characterized it as an urgent economic security matter.

Regarding the SEC, Ekniti stated it operates as an independent agency under Finance Ministry oversight. New regulations were approved prohibiting individuals from companies with legal violations from joining boards. He instructed SEC officials to enforce good governance, transparency, and clarity, directing the Finance Ministry's representative to support independent directors and remove representatives of legally-troubled companies from risk committees.

On the SEC chairman issue, Ekniti instructed the SEC secretary and Finance Ministry permanent secretary to strictly follow legal procedures. If investigation clearly proves wrongdoing and unsuitability for office, removal will proceed according to law. Regarding Thauvin capital, he confirmed close coordination with the Justice Ministry and stated he fulfilled his legal responsibilities without inaction.

A Cautionary Tale for Parents: 12-Year-Old Boy Bored at Office, Sets Tissue on Fire and Destroys Entire Floor

A 12-year-old boy accidentally set fire to an entire office floor in Ningpo, China after being left unattended while his parent worked. The boy used a lighter to ignite tissue paper out of boredom, causing sparks to spread to nearby items and escalate into a major fire that caused tens of thousands of yuan in damages. The incident has sparked widespread online debate about parental supervision and child safety awareness.

5d ago Khaosod

A 12-year-old boy in China has become a hot topic online after his parent brought him to the office, where he played with fire and caused a major office fire in Ningpo, Zhejiang Province on April 30th. The parent had brought their son to the office to spend quality time together and strengthen family bonds, but left the boy unattended while working. Out of boredom, the boy picked up a lighter and lit tissue paper, not realizing that the sparks would fly onto items near a desk and quickly escalate into a major fire. The boy called his parent for help when he saw the flames spreading, and the parent immediately notified firefighters. Employees attempted to control the situation using dry chemical powder fire extinguishers, but the office suffered severe damage despite their efforts. Fortunately, no one was injured or killed, though damages are estimated at tens of thousands of yuan. Fire officials warned about the dangers of leaving children unattended, noting that children are naturally curious but lack safety awareness, and that parental negligence can lead to catastrophic losses. This is not the first such incident in China—similar cases involving children playing with lighters have occurred previously, including one in Zhejiang Province last year and a 9-year-old who set fire to foam boxes in 2023. Chinese netizens have heavily criticized the incident, with some arguing the 12-year-old was old enough to know better and may be overly indulged, while others joked that companies will likely become hesitant to allow employees to bring their children to work.
