Buriram police announced the arrest of Sueksan, 29, accused of using a sharpened file wrapped in cloth to simulate a gun during an armed robbery at a gas station in Lamphlayamad District, Buriram Province. The incident occurred at 9:30 p.m. on April 12, as a gas station employee was placing cash into a safe. The suspect made off with 128,400 baht, an act clearly captured by the station's security cameras.

Following the robbery, Provincial Police Commander Warayut Janyiem ordered provincial and local investigators to pursue the suspect, who had fled to another province. Officers obtained a court warrant and apprehended Sueksan in Pathumthani Province.

Sueksan admitted to committing the robbery, stating he spent the 128,400 baht on Songkran festivities, dating expenses, and online gambling losses. Background investigation revealed that Sueksan had previously worked at the same gas station and had stolen 30,000 baht five years ago, resulting in his termination. Despite losing his job, he committed another theft at the same location.

On April 29, 2025, representatives from various national community networks including the Railway Community Network (CMFT), Four-Region Slum Network, Yaowamo City Network, and Nakhon Si Thammarat Network met with Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Phipat Ratchakitprakarn to express appreciation for government efforts in understanding and improving people's living conditions. The government has set a 5-year action plan (2023-2027) allocating 7.718 billion baht to address low-income housing issues through 30-year land leases from SRT, ensuring tenure security. Deputy PM Phipat announced the establishment of an oversight committee to monitor and resolve railway land housing issues, conduct fact-finding investigations, and ensure swift resolution of residents' problems. Both groups suffer severe income loss and physical and mental health deterioration.

Voradul Tularak, an economist and labor researcher with the Platform Worker Wellbeing Development Project, noted that Thailand's economy is entering stagflation—slow growth with high inflation—compounded by unresolved structural inequality and income disparity. This leaves the nation vulnerable to increasingly severe crises. The poor and unprotected workers, particularly ride-hailing workers, suffer first and most severely. Platform workers lack labor law protections, bear rising work costs, yet labor in extreme heat exceeding 40 degrees Celsius and PM2.5 dust pollution. Government response has been slow and unfocused compared to South Korea and Singapore.

Voradul recommended new welfare models including rest areas and drinking water stations in urban zones, dust protection equipment, and breathable uniforms provided by platforms rather than taxpayer funds. He advocated for mandatory work stoppages during dangerous heat or pollution levels, and fair compensation mechanisms for energy costs and work risks to protect workers under intensifying crisis conditions.

Prapaporn Phonin, representing the Rider Network, stated that rider compensation has plummeted from initial rates of 60-80 baht per trip to approximately 20 baht. This forces riders to work longer hours, take more trips, and sacrifice rest, increasing traffic accident risks.

In Dong Dueay subdistrict, Khong Krai district, Sukhothai province, a farmer secretly set fire to rice stubble that spread uncontrollably to an agricultural orchard. The fire destroyed rare hardwood trees and various fruits including bananas and multiple mango varieties, causing damage of at least 100,000 baht. The orchard owner was so distraught he nearly collapsed from the heartbreak of seeing trees he had nurtured for years consumed in minutes.

Phannamee Toengiew, 61, the orchard owner, revealed he had purchased the 5-rai land and spent four years cultivating over 100 trees of various species including marit (rare forest timber), mahogany, teak, mango, banana, and other hardwoods. Last year, a similar incident burned 2 rai and killed nearly 40 mango trees. This year proved worse, with the fire consuming almost the entire 5-rai plot and killing most of the trees.

"I bought this land and planted trees, hoping to build a retirement home someday," Phannamee said. "I'm fortunate I hadn't started construction yet, or the fire would have cost me another 400,000 to 500,000 baht. I urge farmers to be careful—I understand agricultural practices, but please consider the consequences to your neighbors."
