Thailand welcomes Aung San Suu Kyi's move to house arrest, backs gradual ASEAN engagement

Thailand welcomed Myanmar's decision to move Aung San Suu Kyi to house arrest, viewing it as progress and reaffirming support for gradual ASEAN engagement to promote peace and reconciliation in the region.

4 May Khaosod

BANGKOK — The Thai government has welcomed Myanmar's decision to move detained former leader Aung San Suu Kyi to house arrest, describing it as a positive development and reaffirming support for gradual engagement between ASEAN and Myanmar.

Government spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek said the move reflected progress and that Thailand was ready to promote "appropriate and step-by-step interaction" within the regional bloc to support peace and reconciliation efforts in Myanmar.

Ratchada also referred to a recent visit to Myanmar by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, who met Myanmar leader Min Aung Hlaing on April 22. She said discussions were positive, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties, border security and preparations to reopen the Mae Sot–Myawaddy crossing.

During the meeting, the Myanmar leader reportedly provided an update on Aung San Suu Kyi's condition, saying she remained in good health and that further positive measures could follow.

Thailand's Foreign Ministry outlined two key points in response to recent developments in Myanmar. First, it welcomed the release of detainees, including former president Win Myint, during the Myanmar New Year period, and expressed support for continued efforts by the Myanmar government to engage all stakeholders towards lasting peace and national reconciliation.

Second, Thailand welcomed Myanmar's commitment to advancing the peace process, including invitations to armed groups to join negotiations aimed at restoring peace and stability. Thailand said it stood ready to support such efforts.

The spokesperson added that Myanmar had indicated it would continue working with Thailand and ASEAN to deliver humanitarian assistance to those in need.

"Thailand continues to closely monitor the situation in Myanmar, pursuing a policy of appropriate and gradual engagement to support peace, stability and sustainable development through cooperation with all parties and within the ASEAN framework, for the benefit of the Myanmar people and regional stability," Ratchada said.

Wife of 23 years dumped for monk in shocking affair claim

A Prachin Buri woman alleges her husband of 23 years left her for a Buddhist monk, sparking online debate about monastic conduct and public trust in the clergy.

4 May Khaosod

NAKHON RATCHASIMA, 4 May 2026 — A woman from Prachin Buri has come forward with allegations that her husband of 23 years left her after engaging in a relationship with a Buddhist monk, in a case that has sparked widespread debate online.

The story first surfaced on a Facebook page, which claimed the woman was left shocked after discovering the alleged relationship. The post said she was also asked to accept a three-person relationship, prompting her to leave home with just 6,000 baht to start a new life.

The allegations quickly drew strong reactions from social media users, with many criticising the conduct of both the man and the monk, saying it could constitute a serious breach of monastic discipline.

Reporters visited a temple in Nakhon Ratchasima on Monday to verify the claims. A monk there said he had only briefly seen the individual mentioned, describing him as reclusive and rarely interacting with others. He added that the monk had not been seen at the temple recently and confirmed he was not affiliated with the temple.

The Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Office of Buddhism later identified the monk as Phra Phonchai, around 30 years old, who was ordained in 2024 at a temple in Phra Thong Kham district.

Officals said he is currently registered at a temple in Det Udom district, Ubon Ratchathani province, and had previously studied Buddhist scriptures at Wat Bueng Phra Aram Luang in July 2025, but was not formally affiliated with the temple.

Authorities said they were unaware of his personal conduct and could not confirm the allegations. They added that coordination with relevant offices in Ubon Ratchathani was under way to establish the facts and take appropriate action.

In a separate statement, Wat Bueng Phra Aram Luang clarified that the monk mentioned in reports was not part of its clergy, but had only temporarily stayed to study and had left the temple in October 2025.

The temple stressed that any alleged behaviour was a personal matter and not connected to the institution, urging the public to await verification by relevant authorities.

The case continues to draw attention, with questions raised over its potential impact on public confidence in the Buddhist clergy.

Sacred Objects: The Lampang Regiment Medal of Luang Por Kaem Khemako

This article chronicles the life of Luang Por Kaem Khemako, a venerated Buddhist monk from Lampang Province who passed away in 1996 at age 84 after 64 years of monastic practice. Known for his exceptional scholarship in Buddhist scriptures and innovative teaching methods, he served as abbot of Wat Bun Yuen before dedicating his later life to meditation practice at Trilaksana Cemetery. His sacred amulets, particularly the Lampang Regiment Medal, remain highly popular among collectors and devotees throughout Thailand.

4 May Khaosod

Luang Por Kaem Khemako from Trilaksana Cemetery in Lampang Province was a highly revered senior Buddhist monk and respected spiritual figure with a large following, and also a member of the royal family who took monastic vows. Born on November 28, 1912 (Wednesday), he was the son of a district deputy administrator and later became a court attendant to the last lord of Lampang. As a child, he was known for his mischievous nature, once climbing a guava tree and sustaining a head injury from a fall. At age 13, he ordained in a temporary seven-day ceremony before the cremation of his abbot at Wat Pa Dow. He later formally ordained at age 15 at Wat Bun Yuen in Lampang, where he studied Buddhist scriptures and passed the intermediate Buddhist studies examination in 1931. Under the guidance of his preceptor Phra Dharmacindan, he became an accomplished scholar of Pali language. After completing his scriptural studies, he sought out Kruba Kaen Sumano, a renowned meditation master, and became his disciple, traveling with him on forest pilgrimages to pursue spiritual practice. When the abbot of Wat Bun Yuen passed away, the monastic community elected him as the new abbot, though he was reluctant to accept the position as he preferred to focus on meditation practice. Eventually, he left the temple to practice at Trilaksana Cemetery for the remainder of his life. His teaching style emphasized Buddhist parables and principles, once famously using an empty butter can to amplify his voice during a funeral sermon as a skillful means to keep people's attention. Luang Por Kaem Khemako passed away peacefully on January 15, 1996 at 7:40 PM at Lampang Hospital at the age of 84 with 64 years of monastic service. His sacred amulets, particularly the Lampang Regiment Medal, became highly sought after by devotees and collectors.

The incident began on May 1, 2025, at 7:50 PM, when Jok entered Yaowarat Gold Shop inside a department store in Kokkham Subdistrict, Mueang Samut Sakhon, dressed as a motorcycle courier. Nattachon Clarifies LINE Group Exit, Denies Resentment Over Failed Committee Chair Bid

MP Nattachon Srikokeuea of Songkhla clarified his exit from party LINE groups was due to a prior agreement on committee assignments, not resentment over a failed chairmanship bid. He said the departure has led to increased assignments and o

4 May Khaosod

At 12:40 p.m. on May 4, 2025, at Phum Jai Thai Party headquarters, MP Nattachon Srikokeuea of Songkhla explained that he manages approximately 1,000 LINE accounts and had exited multiple party groups, including MP batches 25 and 26, as well as the original Southern region MP group. He acknowledged accidentally sending messages to wrong groups due to the high number of chats, but stressed this was not motivated by disappointment—it was a prior agreement regarding committee assignments.

Following his exit, party procedures took over rather than direct intervention from the Prime Minister or party secretary. The opposition coordination committee investigated his departure and subsequently invited him back to the groups with no other complications. "I can confirm there's no resentment because we had an agreement beforehand," Nattachon stated. "As a politician, we shouldn't just protect our own image or reputation—we must look after our own well-being. This is political philosophy. Whether we get a position depends on the party executive board, and there are many other tasks to handle."

Nattachon revealed that since leaving the LINE group, he has received more assignments from party executives, party leadership, and the opposition coordination committee for parliamentary coordination and extra-parliamentary work. "The LINE departure turned out to be a good opportunity to contribute more to the party," he explained. When asked about specific promises for future positions, he said there were none yet, but he expects to focus on pending legislation regarding loans and the 2025 budget, particularly the Land Bridge project which significantly affects the Southern region.

Entertainment Scoop – 'Ben-Jeda' Team Up for Detective Action Comedy in 'Cruel Love Song'

Channel 7HD is launching a new action-comedy-drama series titled "Cruel Love Song" featuring Ben Santirat Kulnaphakiatti and Jeda Sranya Chunjaisathit in their first on-screen pairing. The story follows Poona, an aspiring singer sent to infiltrate a music label to uncover her parents' deaths, and Chaiya, a detective undercover investigating the same case, as their mission creates unexpected romance amid mounting obstacles. The series airs Monday through Friday at 7:00 PM on Channel 7HD.

4 May Khaosod

Channel 7HD presents a new action-drama-comedy series "Cruel Love Song" from Gold CP.G Entertainment, based on a story by Khon Nam Khem with television adaptation by Phukhao. The series is directed by and stars Ekkachai Rungsiroj Pantpeng alongside leading man Ben Santirat Kulnaphakiatti, who plays 'Chaiya,' a skilled young detective. This marks his first on-screen pairing with actress Jeda Sranya Chunjaisathit, who portrays 'Poona,' a beautiful aspiring singer. The supporting cast includes Ris Wichyapong Iamsaad as Manas, Mint Phortiva Sakharchun as Maria, Pul Poolpat Atthapassyapol as Sorrak, and famous Luk Thung singer Fon Thanasunthorn in the roles of Wilai and Aronong.

"Cruel Love Song" tells the story of Poona, a talented young woman who dreams of becoming a singer but is instead sent to infiltrate a music label to uncover the truth behind her parents' deaths—a case potentially linked to criminal networks. Meanwhile, Chaiya, a young police detective, receives a secret mission to go undercover investigating the same case, pretending to be a YouTuber. Their misunderstandings gradually blossom into romance, but as they get closer to the truth, obstacles multiply. The chemistry between Ben and Jeda promises to deliver an entertaining ride.

Ben Santirat shared: "In this role, I play Chaiya, a detective sent to tackle drug trafficking by a powerful figure in a village. I'll be undercover as a YouTuber conducting the investigation. This series has plenty of action sequences in the style of director Akhlorn Phoncharoen, who has collaborated with Ekkachai for a long time. That blend of Akhlorn's signature style with Ekkachai's direction creates something contemporary and well-balanced. The story is rich in flavor and features beautiful songs that match the title. As for whether I'll sing with Jeda, I'll let you discover that by watching. We've worked together before on 'Kwang Thang Buen,' but this is our first time playing opposite each other. There's good chemistry with no need for adjustment—Jeda is talented and dedicated, especially when it comes to singing. Please tune in!"

Jeda Sranya added: "I play Poona, who dreams of becoming an artist and singer. I was raised by my uncle, Ekkachai, who discouraged me from pursuing music. This creates mystery about why he opposed my involvement in the industry—a key thread in the story. Poona is a fighter, a bit rebellious, but deeply caring toward family and friends. She has some action scenes, though not as many as Ben's. I'm thrilled to work with Ben again and play opposite him for the first time. We already have good rapport, and Ben is as charming as ever. We'll constantly exchange ideas about how to play each scene. I hope you'll watch 'Cruel Love Song'—it's entertaining, beautifully made, and features wonderful songs. Stay tuned to see if Poona achieves her dream of becoming a singer!"

Tune in to "Cruel Love Song" every Monday through Friday at 7:00 PM on Channel 7HD (digital TV channel 35).

Expressway Authority Confirms Burapha Withi Bridge Structure Remains Strong, Only Surface Concrete Damaged

A lithium battery truck fire beneath Bangkok's Burapha Withi elevated expressway on May 3 caused surface concrete damage, but engineering inspections confirmed the bridge structure remains sound and safe for traffic.

4 May Khaosod

Engineering teams have completed their inspection of the site, and the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EATT) confirms that damage from the fire beneath the bridge is limited to the concrete surface. The Burapha Withi elevated expressway structure remains structurally sound and safe.

The incident involved a truck carrying lithium batteries that caught fire on Highway Theprathat (Bangnа–Trat) at kilometer 40+500 on May 3, 2025 at approximately 7:30 PM. The intense blaze, fueled by the battery fire, produced continuous explosions with flames shooting high enough to impact the expressway structure above, causing some concrete surface spalling and debris to fall onto the road below.

The EATT immediately ordered engineers and expert technicians to inspect the site on the night of the incident. They partially closed traffic lanes to prevent risks and facilitate the inspection work. At 11:00 PM, the EATT completed an initial damage assessment and found that damage was limited to concrete surface spalling and deterioration. Inspection of the overall concrete structure confirmed it remains structurally sound with no deformation or warping detected.

The EATT then removed loose concrete and sections showing signs of potential collapse for the safety of drivers below, completing this work at 5:00 AM on May 4, 2025. The Burapha Withi expressway remains open for normal traffic. The EATT urges the public to be assured that the expressway structure is structurally sound and has undergone rigorous engineering inspections, and apologizes for any inconvenience caused.
